Athletics | Oakland resting four starters

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 11:00:52 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns, C Stephen Vogt, 2B Jed Lowrie and 3B Max Muncy are not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago Sunday, June 26. OF Coco Crisp will start in center field, while OF Khris Davis will start in left field. 1B Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter and is batting fifth. OF Jake Smolinski will start in right field and is batting sixth. C Josh Phegley will start at catcher and is batting eighth, while SS Arismendy Alcantara will start at second base and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Butler, Smolinski and Phegley has posted decent numbers in their limited playing time this season but are not strong options in most leagues. Alcantara has gone 1-for-4 since being recalled and should be avoided in all leagues at this point.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt sitting out

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 10:03:41 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is out of the lineup Wednesday, June 22, with 2B Jed Lowrie hitting third. C Josh Phegley is hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Lowrie is hitting just .262 with one RBI in 65 at-bats this month. Moving into a prime spot in the order gives him some upside against Junior Guerra, though. Phegley is hitting close to .300 this month and is worth a basement play.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt serving as DH Saturday

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 12:20:49 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt is getting another break from his regular catching duties and will bat third as the designated hitter against Los Angeles Angels SP Tim Lincecum on Saturday, June 18. C Josh Phegley will get the start behind the plate and hit eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt isn't hurting his owners in any particular category by batting .265 with five homers and 16 RBI but more was expected out of him after hitting .261 with 18 home runs and 71 RBI in 2015. He has two homer and 10 RBI since the start of May, which is very poor production for a player who spends most of his time batting third, fourth or fifth. Owners probably have little choice but to continue starting him in their lineups, but DFS players can do better.

Athletics | Coco Crisp, Stephen Vogt out

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 14:24:55 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (rest) and C Stephen Vogt (rest) are not in the lineup Wednesday, June 15. OF Billy Burns is starting in center field and batting leadoff, while C Josh Phegley is behind the plate and hitting sixth opposite Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt normally sits versus lefties, and this will actually be his fourth straight contest out of the lineup, as Oakland is facing a left-handed starter once again. Phegley merits consideration in some daily games. Crisp, meanwhile, was on a little run over his past few games, but will be sitting for the second consecutive night. Burns has a higher ceiling anyway.

Athletics | Coco Crisp, Stephen Vogt resting

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 15:47:23 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp and C Stephen Vogt are not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers left-handed SP Martin Perez Tuesday, June 14. OF Billy Burns is starting in center field and is hitting leadoff, while C Josh Phegley is catching again and batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Both Burns and Phegley could be nice sleeper selections in DFS action this evening. Burns' daily value skyrockets hitting atop the order where he can better utilize his speed. Phegley fares much better against lefties and slugged his first home run of the year last night.

Athletics | Three A's regulars out

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 14:54:17 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Jed Lowrie, OF Billy Burns and C Stephen Vogt are not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers left-handed SP Cesar Ramos Monday, June 13. SS Tyler Ladendorf is starting at second base and is hitting ninth, 1B Billy Butler is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth and C Josh Phegley is catching and hitting sixth. Also, SS Marcus Semien is hitting in the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: Ladendorf is the least attractive DFS play tonight. Avoid him. The others have sleeper potential while facing a starter without much major league experience at all. Semien's daily value increases the most with the move up the order, and he slugged his 12th homer of the year yesterday.

Athletics | Several OAK regulars sitting out Sunday

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 08:22:12 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt, 1B Yonder Alonso and OFs Max Muncy and Billy Burns are not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP John Lamb Sunday, June 12. 1B Billy Butler will bat fifth and play first base, while C Josh Phegley will bat seventh and start behind the plate. In addition, OF Khris Davis (hand) will bat cleanup and play left field, while OF Jake Smolinski starts in right field and bats eighth.

Fantasy Tip: The A's are facing a left-handed pitcher this afternoon, which explains why their lineup is stocked with right-handed batters and switch hitters. Phegley and Smolinski should be viewed as productive sources of salary cap relief in daily fantasy games.

Athletics | Josh Phegley catching Saturday

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 10:11:21 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Josh Phegley will bat ninth and start behind the plate against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh Saturday, June 4. C/1B Stephen Vogt will serve as the designated hitter and bat third, while OF Khris Davis plays left field and bats fifth. OF Coco Crisp is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley is 8-for-20 at the plate during day games this season and is hitting .308 versus right-handed pitching, making him worthy of consideration for daily fantasy lineups. Meanwhile, Vogt is batting .371 with one home run and seven RBI over the last two weeks and is hitting 100 points better versus righties in 2016, so he should be viewed as a viable option in all formats.

Athletics | Stephen Vogt has multi-hit game

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 21:21:39 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a walk and a run scored Friday, June 3, against the Houston Astros to push his hitting streak to nine games.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt is hitting .343 (13-for-35) during the impressive hitting streak to re-emerge as a must-start across all fantasy formats and DFS play.

Athletics | Three A's regulars take a seat

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 10:45:54 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt, 1B Yonder Alonso and OF Chris Coghlan are not in the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers left-handed SP Pat Dean Wednesday, June 1. C Josh Phegley is catching and hitting sixth, 1B Billy Butler is at first base and hitting fifth and OF Jake Smolinski is in right field and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley and Butler could make an impact in daily games as sleepers at their respective positions, but Smolinski is one to avoid hitting lower in the lineup.
