Blue Jays | Brett Cecil locks down save

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 22:30:53 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil allowed a hit in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday, April 28, against the Boston Red Sox for his first save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Cecil was effective in the save chance a day after being named as the closer in place of the shaky Miguel Castro.

Blue Jays | Brett Cecil back as closer

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 13:11:01 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil is back in the closer's role.

Fantasy Tip: Well, that was fast. This is an unsettled situation, but the reality is Cecil will see the lion's share of save opportunities moving forward. Cecil is a safe play once again, and Miguel Castro should be held onto in deeper leagues just in case.

Blue Jays | Brett Cecil was in line for save

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 21:36:11 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil would have worked for the save Monday, April 27, had the situation presented itself, manager John Gibbons said.

Fantasy Tip: Miguel Castro has been shaky lately, so perhaps if Cecil can long a few saves and solid appearances he will emerge as a decent fantasy option for AL-only owners.

Blue Jays | Brett Cecil off limits Friday

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 09:50:23 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil will not pitch Friday, April 10, after pitching the previous two days.

Fantasy Tip: Miguel Castro and Roberto Osuna are off limits as well, and that leaves Aaron Loup or Marco Estrada for a potential save opportunity. Neither are worth picking up in standard formats.

Blue Jays | Miguel Castro could have opening

Thu, 09 Apr 2015 13:57:28 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Miguel Castro could receive the opportunity to save games with RP Brett Cecil (shoulder) removed from the closer role.

Fantasy Tip: While there are no guarantees Castro receives the first look in the ninth inning, he turned heads this spring with his nasty stuff, and it is likely his job to lose. He is an immediate speculative add in the majority of formats, too. Just know there likely will be a few ups and downs for the 20-year-old rookie.

Blue Jays | Brett Cecil removed as closer

Thu, 09 Apr 2015 13:47:18 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil (shoulder) has been removed from the closer role, at least temporary, according to manager John Gibbons. Cecil's velocity was down to 87-88 mph Wednesday, April 8, and he admitted he is a couple weeks behind due to the shoulder soreness he dealt with during spring training. Gibbons noted Cecil will pitch in the seventh and eighth innings for the time being to work through his issues.

Fantasy Tip: Miguel Castro turned heads all spring and boasts a filthy pitching arsenal. Expect him to receive a look in the ninth inning sooner than later, and Castro is worth a speculative add in the majority of formats, especially if you're chasing saves. Cecil is worth holding, but it is worth noting that much of his success in the bullpen has come in the seventh and eighth innings. Castro has the potential to take the closer job and never look back, too.

Blue Jays | Brett Cecil makes spring debut

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 13:29:25 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil (shoulder) made his spring debut Thursday, March 26, pitching one inning and recording a strikeout. He said the plan is to take a couple days off, then pitch in back-to-back games and proceed from there.

Fantasy Tip: Over the past two seasons, Cecil has finished 29 games and recorded six saves with a 2.76 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP and 146 strikeouts through 114 innings. He is expected to be ready for opening day and will serve as the closer. Currently, Cecil is a late-round bargain for saves, but expect his name to begin being called earlier and earlier in drafts as the season approaches, especially if there aren't any additional setbacks.

Blue Jays | Brett Cecil will be closer

Sun, 22 Mar 2015 07:13:29 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil has been named the closer for the start of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Cecil was considered the favorite for the job and now has been named the closer, but it is not known if he could lose the job if he struggles early. Owners could consider selecting Cecil in the later rounds of drafts since he is now a closer.

Blue Jays | Brett Cecil to pitch in a game

Sat, 21 Mar 2015 09:16:26 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil (shoulder) is scheduled to pitch one inning in a minor league game Saturday, March 21, and will pitch in another game Tuesday, March 24, if things go well in his first outing.

Fantasy Tip: Cecil is still a candidate for the closer job, so owners should monitor his situation over the next few weeks. Owners could consider Cecil in the later rounds of drafts because of his save potential, but he is still a valuable pitcher even if he does not win the closer job.

Blue Jays | Brett Cecil to throw

Sat, 14 Mar 2015 07:10:41 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil (shoulder) is scheduled to throw 10 pitches during a bullpen session Saturday, March 14.

Fantasy Tip: Cecil is working his way back from a shoulder injury but there is no timetable for when he will return to the mound. Cecil may still be a candidate for the team's closer role but may not win the job since he is missing time. He could be an option in later rounds of drafts because of his save potential.
