Athletics | Ryan Madson expected to be setup man

Thu, 11 Feb 2016 10:02:54 -0800

Oakland Athletics RP Ryan Madson is expected to serve as the eighth-inning setup man for RP Sean Doolittle, with RPs John Axford and Liam Hendriks.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is coming off an injury marred season, so Madson, and in deeper leagues, Axford, makes sense as fantasy handcuffs to Doolittle. Madson could also be useful for his strikeouts abilities in deeper leagues.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle will not be restricted

Sun, 24 Jan 2016 23:49:20 -0800

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) said Sunday, Jan. 24, that he has no more shoulder issues and he will not be restricted in spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is expected to be the team's closer with Ryan Madson working in a setup role in the eighth inning. If he is 100 percent, Doolittle could re-emerge as a must-start fantasy option in most seasonal formats.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle to continue closing for A's

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 19:15:09 -0800

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle will serve as the team's closer entering the 2016 season, despite their recent acquisitions of RPs John Axford and Ryan Madson, according to general manager David Forst.

Fantasy Tip: The 29-year-old Doolittle made the 2014 American League All-Star team while saving 22 games but only recorded four saves in 12 games during an injury-plagued 2015 campaign. Axford and Madson will serve primarily as set-up men for the A's, although they could see ninth-inning opportunities if Doolittle struggles, gets hurt or needs an occasional break.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle is a work in progress

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 16:42:32 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) is still a work in progress, as he works his way back from a shoulder injury, according to manager Bob Melvin. Melvin did not rule out Doolittle returning to the closer role this season, though.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle was roughed up by the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, Aug. 23, and he blew a save opportunity. It would be foolish to write him off after a single appearance, but you'll want to keep tabs on his next few outings. There is plenty of upside, but Doolittle doesn't warrant a long leash at this stage of the season.

Athletics | Rough return for Sean Doolittle

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 19:57:40 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle recorded just two outs and allowed two runs on one hit and walked two against the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, Aug. 23, in his first game since May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is worth stashing if you have the room and need saves, but he isn't a lock to reclaim the closer role this season.

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 15:08:07 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) was activated from the 60-day disabled list Saturday, Aug. 22.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle close to returning

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 16:31:21 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) is close to returning from the disabled list, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Fantasy Tip: It's probably unrealistic to expect Doolittle to immediately return to closing duties for the A's, but he could at least share part of the ninth-inning job before the season is over. Drew Pomeranz closed out Oakland's win Wednesday, so he and Doolittle could both be worth owning in fantasy leagues. Edward Mujica is losing ground in the backend of this bullpen.

Athletics | Sean Doolttle is finding his form

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 15:16:13 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) has struck out the side in consecutive rehab outings with Class AAA Nashville.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is expected to rejoin the Oakland bullpen Monday, Aug. 24, and he will likely slide back into the closer role. He is worth owning in all seasonal leagues, and Doolittle could provide a huge boost in the save category down the stretch. Continue to check back for updates on his status and for news on when he'll rejoin the Athletics. Edward Mujica's window for fantasy value is closing quickly.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle's updated timeline

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 14:40:25 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) will pitch two more rehab outings, and is likely to rejoin the team during their upcoming road trip, which begins Monday, Aug. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle has only pitched a single inning all season, but he will likely have a good shot at returning to the closer role once healthy and back with the club. He is worth owning in all formats, especially since he projects to be back soon.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle could return next week

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 09:14:02 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) will make another rehab outing for Class AAA Nashville Friday, Aug. 14, and he could return from the disabled list next week.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle will likely be eased back into a late-inning relief role when he returns, but he could eventually usurp Edward Mujica for the ninth-inning duties if he proves fully healthy and effective. It wouldn't be a bad idea to stash Doolittle now in deeper leagues if you're still searching for some saves.
