Athletics | Sean Doolittle activated

Tue, 26 May 2015 14:30:18 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, May 26, and RP Angel Castro was optioned to Class AAA Nashville in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle won't immediately return to closing duties, however. The A's will ease him in in low-leverage situations, while Tyler Clippard continues to handle fireman duties in the short term. Both relievers need to be owned, and you may want to leave Doolittle on your bench until he gets a couple outings under his belt.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle to return Tuesday

Tue, 26 May 2015 10:07:23 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) is expected to be activated from the disabled list for the game Tuesday, May 26. However, he isn't expected to return to the closer role immediately, and he'll be used in low-leverage spots early on.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle should be owned everywhere, but be hesitant to return him to your active lineups until he has at least a few appearances under his belt. Tyler Clippard will continue to be useful for fantasy owners in the short term for saves. Once Doolittle returns to full-time closing duties, Clippard can be cut in shallow mixed leagues.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle may be back Tuesday

Sat, 23 May 2015 15:22:48 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) may be back in the lineup as early as Tuesday, May 26.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle will likely be held out of the closer spot temporarily as he works his way back in, so avoid activating him quickly. Tyler Clippard may still see some action at the position, but even if he doesn't close games he still makes plenty of appearances.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle to pitch Friday

Wed, 20 May 2015 09:50:11 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) will make a rehab appearance for Class AAA Fresno (Calif.) Friday, May 22.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle may be close to returning, but his velocity has been in question during his rehab. The A's figure to ease him back into late-inning duties when he's activated from the DL, meaning Tyler Clippard will still have some fantasy value as a closer when Doolittle comes back. You may want to ease Doolittle back into your starting lineups, as well.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle struggling with velocity

Mon, 18 May 2015 17:23:51 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) has been struggling with his velocity during a minor-league rehab assignment. Doolittle was barely able to hit 90 mph in his most recent outing for Class A Stockton (Calif.), while allowing five hits and four runs in two innings pitched.

Fantasy Tip: Tyler Clippard is expected to retain the Athletics closer role until Doolittle has rejoined the lineup and has been eased back into ninth-inning duties. With Doolittle struggling with velocity, Clippard appears safe in the closer role for the foreseeable future.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle to throw Tuesday

Mon, 18 May 2015 15:16:53 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) will make his next rehab appearance with Class AA Midland (Texas) Tuesday, May 19, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is very close to rejoining the A's, and he'll likely be eased back into the closer's role with Tyler Clippard. Hang onto Clippard for now, though, until Doolittle is back in the ninth-inning gig full time. Once Doolittle is the full-time closer, Clippard can be let go in shallow mixed leagues.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle to start rehab stint

Mon, 11 May 2015 17:51:32 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) will pitch in a minor-league rehab game in his next step of rehab, manager Bob Melvin confirmed Monday, May 11. It's uncertain which affiliate he will pitch, and it is unknown how many games he will need. It all depends on how Doolittle feels.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle will be a great addition for a bullpen which has been awful for the first six weeks of the season. His immediate role has yet to be determined, so fantasy owners in standard leagues might want to hold off in case he is eased back into the closer's role.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle throws Monday

Mon, 11 May 2015 15:38:19 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) threw a 23-pitch session against live hitters Monday, May 11, and the next step for him could be to go on a minor league rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle appears to be close to rejoining the A's and the back end of the bullpen. Oakland's bullpen has been one of the worst in the American League after a month of play, and Doolittle's return will be welcomed. It's unclear if Doolittle will immediately return to closing duties, but it's likely they'll ease him into the ninth. Both Doolittle and Tyler Clippard should be owned in all leagues for now.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle throws 15 pitches

Fri, 08 May 2015 15:21:39 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoudler) threw 15 pitches to live hitters Friday, May 8.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is nearing a return to the A's bullpen, and he might immediately push Tyler Clippard to a setup role. Clippard has three saves in four chances, as Oakland hasn't generated many save opportunities thus far. Both arms should be owned in the majority of leagues, even when Doolittle works his way back, at least in the short term.
