Athletics | Sean Doolittle to throw Thursday

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 17:07:35 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Thursday, July 30, in Oakland.

Fantasy Tip: No timetable exists for Doolittle's return and it is uncertain if he will step back into the closer's role immediately after he is activated from the disabled list. Owners in AL-only and deep mixed leagues should continue to keep him on their roster, especially if they are participating in leagues that use the holds category.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle rehab update

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 16:31:56 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) is currently throwing from a distance of 90 feet, according to manager Bob Melvin. The next step is for him to throw from a distance of 105 feet.

Fantasy Tip: There is still no timetable for Doolittle's return. Unless Tyler Clippard is traded, it will be difficult for him to receive any save opportunities during the second half of the season. Owners in AL-only and deep mixed leagues may want to continue stashing him, especially if they participate in leagues that use the holds category.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle throws again

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 14:12:18 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) threw from 75 feet Thursday, July 9, and felt fine, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is slowly progressing, but there remains no timetable for his return. Unless the A's trade current closer Tyler Clippard at the trade deadline, it may be tough for Doolittle to return to ninth-inning duties in the second half of the season. He's worth stashing in much deeper leagues if you're desperate for saves or if you own Clippard.

Athletics | No setbacks for Sean Doolittle

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 14:33:44 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) felt good and did not suffer any setbacks and came out of his first throwing session Tuesday, July 7, according to manager Bob Melvin.

Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on Doolittle's recovery and return timeline. He could enter into the closer mix when healthy, but at this point, he is nothing more than a speculative saves stash.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle plays catch

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 06:44:49 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) played catch Tuesday, July 7, for the first time since going on the disabled list May 28.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle has an uphill climb to get back into the closing mix, but he could return soon after the All-Star break. Keep him on your watch lists.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle not throwing

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 11:11:09 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) is not yet throwing but is expected to start playing catch at the end of next week.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle has no timetable for a return and won't even be guaranteed the closer's role probably whenever he does return. Of course that could become easier to attain if the A's deal Tyler Clippard at the trade deadline. For now, the best successors to the role are Evan Scribner and Drew Pomeranz.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle back to DL

Sat, 30 May 2015 14:22:14 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained left shoulder Saturday, May 30. Doolittle looked uncomfortable playing catch and missed pitcher's fielding practice this weekend. RP Tyler Clippard will continue closing games.

Fantasy Tip: Clippard's seat cools a bit, and he should be owned in leagues where saves are relevant.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle pleased with debut

Thu, 28 May 2015 07:14:37 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) made his 2015 debut Tuesday, May 27, when he pitched a scoreless sixth inning against the Detroit Tigers. Doolittle said he felt good about his ability to locate his fastball and see improvement with his changeup and slider, two pitches he worked on while rehabbing a shoulder injury. Doolittle's fastball did not top 90 mph.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle will slowly work his way back into form with hopes to recapture the closer role. The odds are in his favor, but owners should continue to play Tyler Clippard as long as he has the job.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle activated

Tue, 26 May 2015 14:30:18 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, May 26, and RP Angel Castro was optioned to Class AAA Nashville in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle won't immediately return to closing duties, however. The A's will ease him in in low-leverage situations, while Tyler Clippard continues to handle fireman duties in the short term. Both relievers need to be owned, and you may want to leave Doolittle on your bench until he gets a couple outings under his belt.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle to return Tuesday

Tue, 26 May 2015 10:07:23 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) is expected to be activated from the disabled list for the game Tuesday, May 26. However, he isn't expected to return to the closer role immediately, and he'll be used in low-leverage spots early on.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle should be owned everywhere, but be hesitant to return him to your active lineups until he has at least a few appearances under his belt. Tyler Clippard will continue to be useful for fantasy owners in the short term for saves. Once Doolittle returns to full-time closing duties, Clippard can be cut in shallow mixed leagues.
