Miami Marlins RP Steve Cishek picked up his first save of the season Tuesday, April 1, against the Colorado Rockies. It was his 30th successful conversion in a row, the longest ongoing steak in baseball.
Fantasy Tip: Cishek has emerged as a solid No. 2 or 3 fantasy closer in all formats. Pitching for the penny-pinching Marlins scares some off, but when they do win, it is likely to be close, requiring his services.

Miami Marlins RP Steve Cishek (neck) isn't dealing with a stiff neck any longer, and he pitched in a simulated game Tuesday, Feb. 25, without any setbacks. "Felt good. Need some work with the slider. I wanted to throw a lot of splits today, (to) righties and lefties. I threw one that was terrible and that was it. So I was happy," Cishek said. He could appear in game action as soon as Friday, Feb. 28.

The Miami Marlins signed free-agent RP Carlos Marmol (Dodgers) to a one-year, $1.25 million deal.
Fantasy Tip: Steve Cishek remains the incumbent ninth-inning man in Miami, but if Marmol continues to show the improvement he yielded late in the year with the Los Angeles Dodgers, he could steal some closures or the job outright if Cishek stumbles.

The Detroit Tigers are not searching for a closer on the trade market thanks to the success of RP Joaquin Benoit. Instead, they're looking for a pitcher to bolster their bullpen in the seventh or eighth innings. The Tigers don't have many options, though, and they're no longer looking at Philadelphia Phillies RP Jonathan Papelbon. Detroit has already been shot down on Baltimore Orioles RP Francisco Rodriguez, Miami Marlins RP Steve Cishek, Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins and Seattle Mariners RP Oliver Perez.
Fantasy Tip: This cements Benoit's value as Detroit's unquestioned closer, and he is in no current danger of getting booted from the ninth.

The Detroit Tigers asked about Miami Marlins RP Steve Cishek, but the cost was too high for Detroit.

The Detroit Tigers have been happy with the production of RP Joaquin Benoit since he took over as closer. He has allowed just one run over 8 1/3 innings since moving into the role, while striking out 15 batters and walking just three. They continue to scout other teams for bullpen help, and Miami Marlins RP Steve Cishek was one named bandied about, but it appears any addition would be to bolster the back-end of the bullpen in a setup role, but not for the closer spot.
