Padres | Derek Norris with night off

Sat, 16 May 2015 14:07:32 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris is out of the lineup Saturday, May 16, in favor of C Austin Hedges.

Fantasy Tip: Hedges ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is 2-for-10 with a couple of RBI in his first taste of the majors. He draws Max Scherzer today, so no thanks on FantasyScore.

Padres | Derek Norris hitting second Tuesday

Tue, 12 May 2015 16:23:54 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris is hitting second in the batting order against Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton Tuesday, May 12.

Fantasy Tip: Norris ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is a sound investment in daily games tonight against Paxton, who has been hit hard early in 2015. Norris has always hit left-handers well in his career, and he's hitting .520 (13-for-25) against them in 2015.

Padres | Derek Norris resting Wednesday

Wed, 06 May 2015 10:03:25 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris is taking the day off Wednesday, May 6. C Austin Hedges is seeing his first major league start and is hitting eighth in the batting order against San Francisco Giants SP Chris Heston.

Fantasy Tip: Hedges ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is one the Padres' top overall prospects, and he may find his way into the lineup occasionally with the Friars getting creative with Norris. Consider him a sleeper pick at FantasyScore today while he's making his first ever big league start.

Padres | Derek Norris to play 1B?

Wed, 06 May 2015 09:49:13 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris could start taking ground balls at first base in pre-game drills and could see time there this year, according to manager Bud Blacks. Black said it's more of a move to add to Norris' versatility and it would provide an opportunity to rest him from the rigors of catching while keeping his bat in the lineup. Black said it would likely happen against some left-handed pitchers. Norris has played just four innings at first base in his big league career. A move to first base for Norris could also give C Austin Hedges more chances to crack the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Norris ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has played well in his new digs to start the year, going 31-for-100 (.310) with two home runs and 16 RBI. Moving to first base occasionally would make him even more valuable to fantasy owners in all cases as he adds multi-position eligibility.

Padres | Derek Norris hitting second

Mon, 04 May 2015 16:32:11 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris is hitting second in the batting order against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner.

Fantasy Tip: While it's a positive that Norris ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is hitting higher up in the lineup tonight, the fact that he's facing tough lefty Bumgarner likely cancels that out. Norris profiles as a bit of a weak play tonight, even though he's had a great 2015 season up to this point.

Padres | Derek Norris hitting second

Sat, 02 May 2015 16:17:33 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris will bat second in the order Saturday, May 2, against the Colorado Rockies. The right-handed hitting Norris will face Rockies LHP Jorge De La Rosa.

Fantasy Tip: Norris ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is crushing lefties to the tune of a .611 batting average through 18 plate appearances this season. That number may be sure to regress, but Norris needs to be in lineups whenever the Padres face a southpaw. The premium spot in the batting order only helps Norris' case on FantasyScore.

Padres | Derek Norris pounding southpaws

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 15:54:03 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris is 11-for-18 (.611 batting average) against left-handed pitchers with seven runs and four RBI so far this season.

Fantasy Tip: This is nothing new for Norris ($3,900, 7.8% of cap), as he has a career .306/.383/.504 slash line against lefties. At his current rate, Norris is a near must-start backstop with a southpaw on the hill for FantasyScore players.

Padres | Derek Norris out of lineup

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 11:23:30 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 29. C Wil Nieves is starting and hitting eighth in the batting order against Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel.

Fantasy Tip: Nieves ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) can save you heaps of loot at FantasyScore today, but he's not a strong option against Keuchel, who is off to a great start in 2015. Play it safe at catcher and look elsewhere.

Padres | Derek Norris taking day off

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 10:18:57 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris is receiving the day off Thursday, April 23. C Wil Nieves is starting behind the plate and hitting eighth in the batting order against Colorado Rockies SP Jordan Lyles.

Fantasy Tip: Nieves ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a dice roll at FantasyScore as a low-end catching option Thursday, even at hitter-friendly Coors Field. His one hit in seven at-bats this year was a grand slam.

Padres | Derek Norris resting vs. Giants

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 06:00:05 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris will receive the day off against the San Francisco Giants Sunday, April 12. C Wil Nieves will start behind the plate Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Norris in daily contests Sunday. He has had a nice start to the season, though, going 8-for-25 with four runs and three RBI. Nieves ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be viewed as nothing more than a low-priced flier for FantasyScore players, and you should likely aim higher.
