Cleveland Indians SP Justin Masterson (knee) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right knee inflammation. Cleveland also designated RP Mark Lowe for assignment.
Fantasy Tip: Maybe Carlos Carrasco will join the rotation, but he's been so good in relief that they may not want to mess with his spot. This could mean the return of Zach McAllister or the talented but troubled Danny Salazar. Stay tuned.

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco has been demoted to the bullpen after going 0-3 with a 6.95 ERA in four starts. SP Zach McAllister will start on short rest in Carrasco's place Wednesday, April 30. The team won't need a fifth starter until May 6.
Fantasy Tip: Trevor Bauer is probably the option the team will call up to take the fifth spot. He's 3-0 with a 1.40 ERA and 28 strikeouts to seven walks in 25 2/3 innings at Triple-A Columbus. He's probably owned in most AL-only leagues, but if you want to take a shot on him in mixed leagues, now is the time to do it.

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona thinks it makes more sense for the struggling SP Carlos Carrasco to work through his struggles while in the rotation, seeing if Carrasco can realize his potential. Carrasco is 0-11 with an 8.28 ERA and a 1.98 WHIP in 16 starts since last winning a game as a starter for the Indians June 29, 2011.
Fantasy Tip: If you're a fantasy owner in AL-only leagues, you're likely tired of waiting for Carrasco to "realize his potential." He is simply not getting the job done, and until he does, he is more hurtful than helpful to most owners.

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco has won the final spot in the team's starting rotation over SP Josh Tomlin. Carrasco will make his first start of the year April 5 against the Minnesota Twins. The team wants Tomlin to have consistent work in the minors as he recovers from elbow reconstruction.
Fantasy Tip: Carrasco was derailed by Tommy John in 2011, but he's far enough removed from the major surgery in order to make some waves, especially now that he's locked up a rotation post. His velocity is no longer in question, and he is enough of a ground-ball pitcher to intrigue some folks as an early waiver-wire target.

The Cleveland Indians optioned SP Trevor Bauer and RP C.C. Lee to Triple-A Columbus Monday, March 24, meaning SPs Carlos Carrasco and Josh Tomlin will battle for the final rotation spot. RPs Scott Atchison and Blake Wood are fighting for the final bullpen job. 3B Lonnie Chisenhall was told he will make the active roster, as well. The Indians also re-assigned 1Bs Bryan LaHair and David Cooper and C Luke Carlin.
Fantasy Tip: Bauer can be dumped in standard mixed leagues now, but keep him on your radar. There's a chance he'll be back up soon if a rotation spot opens up.

Cleveland Indians RP Vinnie Pestano joins RPs John Axford, Cody Allen, Bryan Shaw, Marc Rzepczynski and Josh Outman as pitchers who have secured jobs in the bullpen for manager Terry Francona. That leaves Ps Scott Atchison, C.C. Lee, Blake Wood, Carlos Carrasco and Josh Tomlin still in camp as possibilities for one or two jobs available.
