New York Mets SP Jeremy Hefner (elbow) threw for the first time Monday, Feb. 17, since having Tommy John surgery last August, throwing 20 times off flat ground from 60 feet. Hefner will throw two more times this week and then increase the distance and throw four times next week. He'll need to get out to 150 feet before throwing off a mound, and he hopes to be ready by mid-August.

Mets | Jeremy Hefner seeking second opinion

Wed, 21 Aug 2013 09:54:56 -0700

New York Mets SP Jeremy Hefner (elbow) will visit Dr. James Andrews on Monday, Aug. 26, but he doesn't expect the recommendation to undergo Tommy John surgery to change. The right-hander will also have arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs, likely along with the elbow-ligament reconstruction procedure. He had been pitching through pain for a while, and he believes that he made it worse by doing so.

Fantasy Tip: Hefner will probably miss the entire 2014 season, given that he has a long recovery ahead of him.
