San Francisco Giants 2B Ehire Adrianza has always been a sure-handed defensive infielder, but his bat has been slow to develop in the minors. He's a switch hitter competing for a roster spot this spring and has a career average of .248 in the minor leagues. Adrianza finished the 2013 season at Triple-A Fresno, hitting .310 in 45 games.
He's impressed this spring, and manager Bruce Bochy called him "the most impressive guy in camp so far." As of Wednesday, March 12, he was 5-for-19 (.263) with two home runs. "I've seen power; I've seen him drive the ball at times in the minor leagues, but just not consistently," assistant general manager Bobby Evans said. After those adjustments, Evans said, "he was hitting the ball hard – not soft line drives – and it showed in the box scores." Adrianza is competing with INFs Joaquin Arias, Nick Noonan and Brandon Hicks. Adrianza played almost exclusively at shortstop in the minors, but he's looked adequate at second base in camp.
Fantasy Tip: The Giants are bringing Marco Scutaro (back) along slowly, and there's a decent chance he begins on the DL. At his age, too, he'll likely need to be spelled frequently throughout the season. Adrianza is a real sleeper option in NL-only leagues.

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy is worried about the progress of 2B Marco Scutaro (back), who is at least another week away from playing in spring games. "If you ask me at the end of next week and he's not playing or close to playing, we'll have to have another plan here," said Bochy. Scutaro started taking groundballs last week and did soft toss Friday, March, but he's "still a few days away from live BP." The team would like Scutaro to receive at least 30 to 35 at-bats in camp. INFs Tony Abreu, Nick Noonan, Brandon Hicks and Ehire Adrianza are receiving extra playing time on the infield as a result.

The San Francisco Giants placed OF Andres Torres (Achilles') on the 15-day disabled list with a left Achilles' strain Thursday, Aug. 22, and recalled INF Nick Noonan and OF Francisco Peguero from Triple-A Fresno in corresponding moves. Also, RP Mike Kickham was optioned to Fresno.
Fantasy Tip: Gregor Blanco should now move into an everyday role in center field with Torres sidelined. However, with Angel Pagan (hamstring) nearing a return, that'll probably be short-lived.

San Francisco Giants 3B Pablo Sandoval (foot) appears to be headed to the disabled list, although nothing is official yet. INF Nick Noonan is traveling to join the team for its series that begins on Tuesday, June 11, at the Pittsburgh Pirates and will be added to the active roster if he arrives in time, according to the club.
Fantasy Tip: Big Panda has dealt with ailments this season, as is typical, so it was inevitable that one would land him on the DL. The Giants would be smart to play it safe with this strain in his left foot, which caused him to miss several games last week, given what it has to bear. They played shorthanded for an extended period because they screwed around with Angel Pagan (hamstring), too, so maybe they learned a lesson.
