Rays | Steve Souza out of the lineup

Fri, 27 May 2016 12:25:31 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka Friday, May 27. OF Brandon Guyer will start in right field, while OF Corey Dickerson will start in left field. 1B Steve Pearce will serve as the designated hitter, while INF Taylor Motter will start at second base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Motter has received playing time at multiple positons since being recalled but is hitting only .222 in eight games. He does have two home runs and four RBI during that span, which makes him a sleeper starting candidate for desperate owners in daily fantasy leagues. Guyer, Dickerson and Pearce are good options to be used in daily leagues.

Rays | Corey Dickerson, Brad Miller out

Wed, 25 May 2016 15:26:28 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Corey Dickerson and SS Brad Miller are not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins left-handed SP Justin Nicolino Wednesday, May 25. OF Brandon Guyer is the designated and is hitting leadoff again, OF Mikie Mahtook is starting in left field and batting second and SS Taylor Motter is at the 6 and is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Guyer has been a consistent source of production of late (.314-4-10 in May) and is a fine value choice in daily game tonight against Nicolino. Mahtook did manage nine home runs and a .295 average last year and could be a successful deep sleeper given his lineup position. Motter has also earned some more playing time with two home runs in his first 13 major league at-bats. He, however, is more of a desperation low-end selection at shortstop.

Rays | Brandon Guyer plays well

Mon, 23 May 2016 20:47:28 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Brandon Guyer went 3-for-5 with one home run and one RBI against the Miami Marlins Monday, May 23.

Fantasy Tip: Guyer has received more playing time over the last few weeks and has seven hits in his last three games. Guyer should be an attractive starting candidate in daily fantasy leagues and could be used in some deeper mixed leagues.

Rays | Three Tampa regulars sitting

Mon, 23 May 2016 11:15:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller and OFs Desmond Jennings and Corey Dickerson are not in the starting lineup Monday, May 23. SS Taylor Motter is at the 6 and is hitting seventh, while OF Brandon Guyer is starting in left field and batting leadoff against Miami Marlins SP Wei-Yin Chen.

Fantasy Tip: The Rays lose the DH playing in a National League park this week, so Dickerson could be out again tomorrow. Guyer has taken advantage of his increased opportunities this month and is batting .306 with three home runs and nine RBI. He's a fine value play in daily formats. Motter is a low-end shortstop option.

Rays | Brandon Guyer back in lineup Saturday

Sat, 21 May 2016 10:36:40 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Brandon Guyer is back in the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers SP Michael Fulmer Saturday, May 21, batting leadoff and playing left field, while OF Desmond Jennings receives the day off. In addition, C Curt Casali will start behind the plate and hit ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Guyer is batting .299 with four home runs and 12 RBI through 87 at-bats and is worthy of consideration as a value play in DFS. Although Casali has five home runs and 14 RBI in 80 at-bats, he is batting just .188 and has struck out 36 times. Better catching options should be available for a similar price.

Rays | Steven Souza hitting leadoff Friday

Fri, 20 May 2016 12:09:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Steven Souza is starting in right field and is hitting leadoff against Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez Friday, May 20. OF Brandon Guyer will start the game on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: It's an interesting choice as Tampa looks to shake up the top of their lineup. Souza has easy power (eight home runs, 17 RBI), but an underwhelming .314 career on-base percentage makes him an unlikely candidate to hit leadoff. He has a long swing and often strikes out. It's unknown if this arrangement will stick, but it takes away RBI opportunities from him and makes him slightly less attractive in daily setups.

Rays | Three Rays sitting Wednesday

Wed, 18 May 2016 12:43:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller, OF Corey Dickerson and 1B Steve Pearce are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 18. SS Taylor Motter starts at the 6 and is hitting second, OF Brandon Guyer is the designated hitter and is hitting leadoff, while SS Tim Beckham is starting at second base and batting ninth against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey.

Fantasy Tip: Motter hit his first big league homer last night but is a low-end middle infield option in daily setups, even while hitting in the two-hole. Beckham has a similar profile to Motter but is even less attractive at the bottom of the order. Guyer is your value pick of the trio, as he's been seeing starts on a regular basis and is hitting .313 with three home runs and nine RBI this month.

Rays | Desmond Jennings out Tuesday

Tue, 17 May 2016 13:28:08 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings is not in the lineup Tuesday, May 17. OF Brandon Guyer is leading off against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman.

Fantasy Tip: This has not been a good season at all for Jennings, who is hitting .190 (4-for-21) this month and .188 against American League pitching. Guyer's bat is too hot to keep out of the lineup. He has eight hits in his last five games, including a pair of two-hit contests and a three-hit outing. Guyer carries solid fantasy value in the leadoff spot as well. Jennings has little value until his bat turns around.

Rays | Three Tampa regulars out vs. lefty

Mon, 16 May 2016 14:01:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SS Brad Miller, OF Corey Dickerson and 1B Logan Morrison are not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays left-handed SP J.A. Happ Monday, May 16. SS Taylor Motter is starting at the 6 and is in the two-hole, while OF Brandon Guyer is serving as the designated hitter and batting leadoff. 1B Steve Pearce is at first base and is hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Happ has pitched excellent this year, so it's a tough draw for the Tampa hitters Monday night. Guyer (.351/.444/.703 this month) and Pearce do have sleeper appeal, though, and both are in great lineups spots to return some value. Motter was hitting only .190 with four home runs and 10 RBI at Class AAA Durham before being called up, so he's a desperation daily play.

Rays | Brandon Guyer launches a pair

Sun, 15 May 2016 16:52:59 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Brandon Guyer started for the sixth straight game and went 2-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI and two runs scored in a 7-6 loss to the Oakland Athletics Sunday, May 15.

Fantasy Tip: Guyer is hitting .338 for the year, and he is starting to see regular time in the leadoff spot. He is worth picking up in AL-only formats and deeper mixed leagues.
