Rangers | Texas looking at Matt Moore, Odorizzi

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 10:56:49 -0700

The Texas Rangers have had their scouts watching Tampa Bay Rays SPs Matt Moore and Jake Odorizzi this week as they look to upgrade their pitching before the trade deadline.

Fantasy Tip: Moore held the Red Sox scoreless in his outing Wednesday and has looked a lot better of late after struggling after a fine April. Odorizzi has been decent this year with a 3.93 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 8.4 K/9. Both pitchers wouldn't see a huge boost in fantasy value with a move to Texas and that hitter-friendly park, but they'd have more chances for wins on a first-place club.

Rays | Matt Moore marvelous in win

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 15:18:38 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore picked up his fourth win of the season Wednesday, June 29, after defeating the Boston Red Sox. The left-hander tossed seven shutout innings, yielding just three hits and two walks, while picking up six strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Not only was this an excellent outing from the 27-year-old, it was an important one, too. Moore saw his run of back-to-back quality starts end his last time out, but he was able to bounce back here in a big way opposite a really good lineup. Moore has now pitched six or more innings in five straight outings, and appears to be returning to earlier season form when he posted a respectable 3.66 ERA in April. The lefty is someone to keep an eye on if he's out there.

Rays | Matt Moore looks to turn it around

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 20:51:55 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore is scheduled to face the Boston Red Sox Wednesday, June 29. He is 3-4 with a 5.40 ERA in eight career appearances (seven starts) against Boston. He is 1-2 with a 6.35 ERA in three starts against the Red Sox at Tropicana Field.

Fantasy Tip: Moore should be avoided in fantasy leagues which permit daily transactions and in DFS play, as he just doesn't seem to match up well against the BoSox.

Rays | Matt Moore tagged with loss Friday

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 19:42:52 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore (3-5) allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles Friday, June 24, with one walk and six strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: The Rays are just 2-10 in Moore's last 12 starts, although several of those losses were due to lack of run support. That being said, he makes a very risky play for his next scheduled outing against the hot-hitting Boston Red Sox Wednesday, June 29.

Rays | Matt Moore tosses seven-inning gem

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 14:30:00 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore allowed two hits and a walk while matching a season high with 10 strikeouts in seven frames to pick up the win on Sunday, June 12, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: The scoreless outing was the first of the season for Moore, who had yielded at least four runs in four of his last five outings. As a result, he is sitting on a 5.05 ERA despite today's dominant performance. He's a questionable start at best when the San Francisco Giants visit next weekend.

Rays | Matt Moore drops to 2-4

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 22:49:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore worked his longest outing since the end of April, as he tossed seven innings Tuesday, July 7, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He allowed five runs on seven hits, including two home runs, and also struck out three versus one walk, en route to falling to 2-4 on the year.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the loss, this was actually a step in the right direction for Moore, who had fallen off a bit throughout May after an encouraging showing in April. He still has work to do to get where he was, but given his talent and what he accomplished earlier in his career, there is still hope the left-hander can once again be a dependable asset in many fantasy leagues. He's worth monitoring.

Rays | Matt Moore pushed back

Tue, 17 May 2016 15:55:54 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore has been pushed back to face the Miami Marlins Monday, May 23, so that the Rays can split up their lefty starters. They're also giving Moore extra rest due to his recent struggles.

Fantasy Tip: Moore started out the season nicely but has since stumbled, allowing at least four earned runs in two of his three starts this month. The lefty only struck out three in his last outing and has surrendered four home runs in his last three starts. Don't give up on him just yet, but certainly consider benching him against the Fish Monday.

Rays | Matt Moore to start Monday

Fri, 06 May 2016 17:04:00 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore will make his next start against the Seattle Mariners Monday, May 9.

Fantasy Tip: Moore was originally scheduled to face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Sunday, May 8, but was pushed back in the rotation one day because the Halos have had far more success offensively versus lefties than righties. Moore is just 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA in six starts this year but could be worth a flier in daily fantasy contests because of his 37 strikeouts in 36 1/3 innings.

Rays | Matt Moore may be skipped

Wed, 04 May 2016 23:19:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore may have his start skipped Sunday, May 8, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Angels hit left-handers much better than right-handers. SP Matt Andriese or SP Erasmo Ramirez could make the start Sunday. If Moore makes the start, SP Blake Snell could come up to start Monday, May 9, or Tuesday, May 10, against the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Moore is 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP, and he has 37 K's in 36 1/3 innings. So he's really feast or famine right now, but he's a low-end consideration. Snell is the team's top pitching prospect and is worth the speculative waiver claim and stash.

Dodgers | Corey Seager not playing Tuesday

Tue, 03 May 2016 14:12:06 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Corey Seager is out of the starting lineup Tuesday, May 3, against the Tampa Bay Rays. SS Charlie Culberson is hitting ninth against Rays SP Matt Moore.

Fantasy Tip: Seager gets the night off because of the lefty matchup on the mound. Culberson has five hits in his last 21 at-bats and his fantasy value is minimal, so look elsewhere for Seager's replacement.
