Rays | Desmond Jennings back in lineup Sunday

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 08:03:04 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings is back in the starting lineup versus San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy Sunday, June 19. In addition, OF Mikie Mahtook will bat ninth and play right field, while C Hank Conger starts behind the plate for the second consecutive day.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings is batting .184 with five home runs and 15 RBI through 184 at-bats and is just 2-for-15 with seven strikeouts over the past week, while Mahtook is batting .161 with 23 strikeouts in 62 at-bats this season. Avoid using both outfielders today in all fantasy formats.

Rays | Desmond Jennings, Curt Casali out

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 10:12:24 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings and C Curt Casali are not in the starting lineup versus San Francisco Giants SP Albert Suarez Saturday, June 18. OF Mikie Mahtook will bat seventh and play center field, while C Hank Conger will bat ninth and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Mahtook is hitting only .172 in 58 at-bats this season, including a .108 mark versus right-handed pitching, so he should be avoided this afternoon. Conger is btating .300 with two home runs and six RBI in 30 at-bats over the past four weeks and can be viewed as a source of productive salary cap relief in DFS.

Rays | Desmond Jennings plays through injury

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 21:52:22 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings (quadriceps) was in the lineup Tuesday, June 14, against the Seattle Mariners despite tightness in his left quadriceps. He was hitless in three at-bats with a walk and a strikeout.

Fantasy Tip: It has been a trying season for Jennings, as he is hitting just .185 overall for the season. Avoid him in all mixed fantasy formats until he gets untracked. He is really only worth using in deeper AL-only formats right now.

Rays | Three Rays regulars resting

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 15:19:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 3B Evan Longoria, OF Steven Souza and 1B Steve Pearce (elbow) are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 7. SS Taylor Motter is starting at third base and is hitting leadoff, OF Mikie Mahtook is in right field and is batting fifth, while SS Tim Beckham is at the 6 and is hitting seventh against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke. Also, OF Desmond Jennings moves up to hit third in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: It's a pretty ugly offensive arrangement for the Rays against a surging Greinke tonight. None of the Rays options are very attractive for DFS purposes, with Mahtook and Beckham especially unattractive hitting lower in the order. Greinke is absolutely worth paying up for in daily setups despite his poor home numbers this year.

Rays | Desmond Jennings has good Monday

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 05:00:58 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings homered and had three hits Monday, June 6, in a 6-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings has had horrible slumps in the past year, as the once-vaunted Rays prospect has turned into a bust. However, the team needs Jennings to come alive at the plate, especially in the absence of Kevin Kiermaier. Jennings should not be counted on in regular formats yet, but if he can wield a decent bat at the plate Jennings could be worth a daily fantasy spin.

Rays | Three Tampa regulars sitting

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 15:18:52 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce (elbow), OF Corey Dickerson and SS Brad Miller are not in the starting lineup Monday, June 6. SS Tim Beckham is starting at second base and is batting second, OF Desmond Jennings is starting in left field and hitting sixth, while SS Taylor Motter is at the 6 and is batting seventh against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce remains sidelined with an elbow issue, and his fantasy value may have already seen its peak in 2016. Beckham and Motter are light-hitting middle infielders that don't carry a ton of fantasy value. Beckham has the slight edge in daily intrigue today because he's hitting high in the order, but he remains more of a low-end desperation deep sleeper option in DFS.

Rays | Desmond Jennings, Curt Casali out

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 10:05:40 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings and C Curt Casali are not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey Sunday, June 5. OF Mikie Mahtook will start in center field and is batting first, while C Hank Conger will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Mahtook is hitting only .136 with one RBI over the last seven days and should be avoided in all fantasy leagues. Conger has three hits and one RBI on his last two games, but owners should be able to find better fantasy options to use.

Rays | Steve Pearce, Desmond Jennings sitting

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 14:51:15 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce (elbow) and OF Desmond Jennings are not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 2. SS Taylor Motter is at second base and hitting eighth, while OF Mikie Mahtook is starting in center field and batting seventh against Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce is day-to-day with elbow concerns, and he's likely to deal with the issue the rest of the year. It's quite possible he's already seen his peak in fantasy value this year, as he'll likely be a platoon guy at first base once Logan Forsythe returns from the DL soon. Motter and Mahtook are desperation daily picks even in a nice matchup against Hughes.

Rays | Steve Pearce, Corey Dickerson out

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 14:26:46 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 1B Steve Pearce (elbow) and OF Corey Dickerson (rest) are both out of the lineup Wednesday, June 1. OFs Desmond Jennings and Mikie Mahtook are each getting a start, with OF Brandon Guyer serving as the designated hitter, while SS Taylor Motter draws the start at second base and will bat seventh opposite Kansas City Royals SP Danny Duffy.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce is still dealing with an elbow issue after departing Tuesday night's contest, while Dickerson is simply being rested with a lefty on the hill. However, their replacements don't come off as worthwhile options for daily formats, as the likes of Jennings, Mahtook and Motter are all hitting below .200 on the year.

Rays | Desmond Jennings takes a seat

Tue, 31 May 2016 14:49:28 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 31. OF Mikie Mahtook is starting in center field and is batting eighth against Kansas City Royals SP Dillon Gee.

Fantasy Tip: Mahtook is mainly a speed guy worth considering in the deepest of AL-only leagues. He has very minimal daily value as a desperation play. After all, he has just one hit in 16 at-bats this season.
