Rays | Desmond Jennings pain-free

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 16:32:22 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings (knee) is pain-free but has yet to resume baseball activities.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) last played April 25 before having knee surgery. It doesn't look like he'll be back anytime soon, either. There's no reason to add him in shallow mixed leagues. Kevin Kiermaier ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) will continue to start in center in Desmond's absence. He's merely a low-end outfield option on FantasyScore, though.

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings (knee) has been moved to the 60-day disabled list with left knee bursitis.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is out indefinitely after having surgery on his knee, and there's no guarantee he'll return in the second half of the season and make a fantasy impact. Leave him to the waiver wire in shallow mixed formats.

Updating a previous report, the Tampa Bay Rays said Wednesday, June 10, that OF Desmond Jennings (knee) is expected to be sidelined eight weeks after undergoing knee surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings will be sidelined until at least mid-August, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see them keep him out until rosters expand Sept. 1.

Rays | No timetable for Desmond Jennings

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 15:40:37 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings (knee) had arthroscopic knee surgery Wednesday, June 10, to clean up the inflammation in the plica band that surrounds the left knee cap. The inflammation caused the band to compress on the knee, which caused the pain when Jennings tried to straighten his leg. There is still no timetable for his return.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Brandon Guyer ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) and Kevin Kiermaier ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) to continue receiving the majority of playing time in Jennings absence. Jennings is worth stashing in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats, but the 28-year-old outfielder has failed to live up to the hype which accompanied him when he entered the league. It is unlikely Jennings tips the scales in the majority of leagues again in 2015.

Rays | Desmond Jennings having knee scoped

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 13:38:41 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings (knee) will have a scope on his knee Wednesday, June 10, and manager Kevin Cash said the best-case scenario is for Jennings to return in three to four weeks.

Fantasy Tip: For a player that relies a lot on his speed, this is an injury that could really affect Jennings once he's back. He's not worth holding in shallow mixed formats. Brandon Guyer ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) and Kevin Kiermaier ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) have really benefitted from increased playing time because of Jennings' injury, but they remain merely deep sleeper picks that provide cap relief.

Rays | Still no timetable for Desmond Jennings

Wed, 13 May 2015 13:54:19 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings (knee) said his knee is improving slowly, but there is still no date to resume playing.

Fantasy Tip: With Jennings ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) out, the Rays have been going with a committee of Joey Butler ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) and Brandon Guyer ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) in left field. They're low-end FantasyScore players well within flier territory, and most of the time, you'll want to aim higher. In the majority of seasonal leagues, all three should be left on the waiver wire.

Mon, 11 May 2015 06:45:52 -0700

Fantasy Tip: This is a good sign that his activity is ramping up, and he could begin hitting soon. Keep an eye on his progress. Brandon Guyer ($2,100, 4.2% of your cap) is on the fringe for a low-end outfield spot on FantasyScore with a .294-2-11 line on the year.

Rays | No timetable for Desmond Jennings

Mon, 04 May 2015 09:08:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings (knee), who was put on the 15-day disabled list over the weekend, doesn't have a timetable for his return, but manager Kevin Cash isn't ruling out Jennings coming off the DL when he's eligible May 11.

Fantasy Tip: With Jennings out for at least the next two weeks, Brandon Guyer ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) should see regular playing time in the outfield. He'll be an under-the-radar daily option at FantasyScore, and he's hitting .273 (9-for-33) with a home run and six RBI since April 19.
