Rangers | Elvis Andrus sitting vs. Red Sox

Fri, 29 May 2015 13:01:57 -0700

Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus is not in the starting lineup against the Boston Red Sox Friday, May 29. SS Hanser Alberto is batting ninth and playing shortstop Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Andrus ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. Alberto is making his major league debut, and while he has shown solid contact skills with Class AAA Round Rock (.303 batting average over 42 games this season), he is nothing more than a desperation play in daily contests.

Rangers | Elvis Andrus dropped in order

Wed, 20 May 2015 15:04:33 -0700

Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus is batting sixth against the Boston Red Sox Wednesday, May 20.

Fantasy Tip: Andrus ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) cannot gain any traction at the plate, as he is hitting just .227 this season and .224 through 18 May games. FantasyScore players should likely aim for more upside in Andrus' price range. It isn't out of the question for seasonal owners to check replacement options on the waiver wire, either.

Rangers | Elvis Andrus hitting second Tuesday

Tue, 19 May 2015 13:52:02 -0700

Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus is hitting second in the order Tuesday, May 19, against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Andrus ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is hitting .304 in his last seven games, so this may explain why the Rangers are moving him up in the lineup from the sixth spot. With more scoring opportunities here, Andrus is a better option to use in daily leagues.

Rangers | Elvis Andrus owns Cleveland

Fri, 15 May 2015 14:37:12 -0700

Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus has scored 30 runs, hit three home runs, drove in 24 runs and stole eight bases with a .357/.431/.485 slash line through 198 plate appearances against the Cleveland Indians during his career.

Fantasy Tip: Andrus ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) appears to be an upside source of cap relief this weekend against Cleveland. However, his past performance against them doesn't guarantee future success, and Andurs is sporting an unimpressive .468 OPS over his last nine games. FantasyScore players shouldn't view him as a lineup lock.

Rangers | Elvis Andrus continues to struggle

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 10:25:26 -0700

Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus spent all spring working on a small leg kick at the plate that was designed to give him more power, and he had good results. However, he hasn't seen the results yet in the regular season, and his career numbers suggest he'll continue to be a "light" .260-.270 hitter. Andrus is one of nine batting qualifiers with no walks in 2015, and his 63.6% success rate on stolen base attempts of 61 players with at least 30 attempts since the 2014 season ranks 57th.

Fantasy Tip: Andrus ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is hitting only .164 (9-for-55) with one home run and five RBI to begin the season. He'll need to get on base more often to maximize his fantasy value, and the lineup around him isn't helping his cause. Andrus' ceiling remains limited, especially in Texas, and he's currently a weak FantasyScore option.

Rangers | Elvis Andrus scratched

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 09:34:14 -0700

Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus (back) was scratched from the spring game Monday, March 30, with typical spring back stiffness.

Fantasy Tip: Andrus ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is likely being extremely cautious with opening day exactly a week from today. He should be fine for the start of the season, and he's in line for a bounceback year after a disappointing 2014 season.

Rangers | Elvis Andrus in much better shape

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 09:17:50 -0800

Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus said he's in the best shape of his life entering the 2015 season after hitting a career-low .263 in 2014. He said he has reported to camp in much better shape this year. "I really believe that," Andrus said. "This year I took it a thousand times (more) seriously than I did the year before. It's part of the growing part, knowing yourself, knowing your body a little bit more every year. I had a really good plan. Our bodies are our business. You have to take care of that year in and year out."

Fantasy Tip: Andrus is currently dealing with a sore knee and is being held out of early spring games for precautionary reasons. That's not a good start, but despite a disappointing year from Andrus in 2014, he's still young (26) and could easily have a bounce-back season. Consider him a rebound candidate in the middle rounds at a scarce position.

Rangers | Elvis Andrus, Mitch Moreland behind

Tue, 03 Mar 2015 09:55:35 -0800

Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus (knee) and 1B Mitch Moreland (ankle) will not play in the team's spring training opener against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, March 4. Andrus is reporting improvement in his sore left knee, and the team isn't concerned with his injury. Moreland underwent ankle reconstruction last year, and he's expected to take grounders and run the bases this week, but he's not expected to play until early next week.

Fantasy Tip: Despite a disappointing 2014 season, Andrus has displayed good seasons before, and he could be a nice value pick at a scarce position in the late middle rounds of standard mixed leagues. Andrus has very little power, but he should score plenty of runs and steal plenty of bases.

Rangers | Elvis Andrus has sore knee

Mon, 02 Mar 2015 10:08:18 -0800

Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus (knee) is being bothered by some knee soreness. He cut short his workout Sunday, March 1, and isn't expected to do anything significant Monday, March 2. However, general manager Jon Daniels doesn't think Andrus' injury is serious at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Andrus' disappointing 2014 season will likely have many forgetting about him. However, he can still run, and he has a track record for success in the big leagues. He's not a bad fall-back option at the 6 for fantasy baseball owners.

Rangers | Elvis Andrus lighter this year

Mon, 23 Feb 2015 15:36:14 -0800

Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus comes into camp this year a little lighter than he was last year, and he's hoping that'll help him reach 40 stolen bases for the second time in his career. Andrus was ill-prepared for the 2014 season, and he hit .263 with 41 RBI, just 38 extra-base hits and was caught stealing a league-high 15 times. He added yoga and pilates to his workout routine this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Andrus' rough 2014 season all around will cause many of your league mates to sour on him this year. However, he's only a year removed from 42 stolen bases and two years removed from a .286 average. He won't ever hit for power, but Andrus presents a nice buying opportunity at a very scarce position.
