Texas Rangers RP Neftali Feliz has given up four hit, three walks and three runs in his last three spring outings, but manager Jeff Bannister is not concerned about his closer. "He says he feels good and is right here he needs to be," Banister said. "Closers are different cats. Some of them get all hopped up and are boiling all the time and some have ice water in their veins. I haven't seen him yet in a real high octane situation yet to get a feel."
Fantasy Tip: After missing all of the 2013 season due to injury, Feliz bounced back with a 1.99 ERA and 13 saves in 30 outings in 2014. He'll need to regain the juice on his heater to return to pre-2013 levels, but Feliz is worth a cheap gamble as a saves option at the end of standard drafts.

Texas Rangers RP Neftali Feliz is penciled in as the closer heading into spring training, and it is considered his job to lose.
Fantasy Tip: Feliz could find himself with plenty of save chances, as when the Rangers win they are unlikely to blow many people out. He could be a fabulous fantasy option in 2015 if he secures the job.

Texas Rangers RP Neftali Feliz has hired a personal trainer to help him with his offseason workouts this year as he attempts to arrive at spring training in the best shape of his career. Last year, Feliz went 2-1 with a 1.99 ERA and 13 saves in 14 tries in 30 games. However, Feliz wasn't throwing as hard as he did before undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2012, and he compensated by throwing more offspeed pitches. Feliz's velocity may return the further he is removed from the surgery.

The Texas Rangers are expected to use RP Kyuji Fujikawa in a setup role for RP Neftali Feliz.

Texas Rangers RP Neftali Feliz's average fastball velocity is down from 96.3 mph, during his 2010 and 2011 stints as closer, to 92.2 this season. His heat has been inconsistent from outing to outing, as well. Feliz said he's aware of the drop-off but is focusing more on making sure he stays in the lower part of the strike zone. He said that the change in his role could cause him to throw harder, too, because "Obviously, there is more energy and adrenaline. You have to do your job with a sense of urgency."
Fantasy Tip: Saves-desperate fantasy owners should grab him with the hope he'll improve, whether it be via the intangible factor of closing or simply more time on the mound since his 2012 surgery.

Texas Rangers RP Neftali Feliz said he wants to be a closer.
Fantasy Tip: Feliz had his sights set on being a starter for a couple of years before his elbow required Tommy John surgery. Feliz could be a solid closer once again if he regains his pre-injury form.

Texas Rangers RP Neftali Feliz will take over as closer after the team dealt RP Joakim Soria. "The Feliz of old is a dominant, elite closer," general manager Jon Daniels said. "He may get that opportunity, whether it's as a traditional closer or in some other way. He's still so young and you still see the ability, just not as consistently. It would be a good test for him to see how he responds."
Fantasy Tip: Feliz should be picked up in AL-only leagues if he's available and most mixed formats if you need saves. He hasn't shown to be the dominant pitcher pre-Tommy John surgery, but he could get better as the season goes on. Corey Knebel could also figure into the mix at some point.
