Mets | Wilmer Flores starting vs. Miami

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 12:42:02 -0700

New York Mets INF Wilmer Flores is starting at first base and batting fourth against Miami Marlins SP Adam Conley Friday, July 22. Mets 1B James Loney is not in the starting lineup Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Flores is scorching hot and pushing for more playing time with an active 14-for-34 run at the plate that's yielded nine runs, seven home runs and 13 RBI. He should be owned in all deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Loney is nothing more than a fringe starter in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, and he could begin to lose starts to Flores.

Mets | Asdrubal Cabrera sitting vs. Cubs

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 09:08:18 -0700

New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 20. INF Wilmer Flores draws into the starting lineup at third base and is batting third against Chicago Cubs SP Kyle Hendricks Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera is having a respectable season with 39 runs, 13 home runs, 31 RBI and a .266/.321/.432 slash line and should be viewed as a low-end starter in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Flores is hitting when receiving the chance and owns a .290/.344/.510 slash line with 19 runs, eight home runs and 24 RBI since the calendar flipped to May. He's worth owning in deeper settings to plug in when he's in the lineup. Flores is also a viable flier in daily contests Wednesday.

Mets | Wilmer Flores draws in at first base

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 13:03:53 -0700

New York Mets INF Wilmer Flores is starting at first base and batting fifth against Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester Monday, July 18. 1B James Loney is not in the starting lineup Monday.

Fantasy Tip: With an excellent .300/.364/.580 slash line against southpaws this season, Flores is a strong fantasy option in all formats Monday, including daily contests. He's receiving enough playing time to be a low-end starter in deep mixed leagues, and he should be owned and started in all cavernous mixed and NL-only formats. Loney is best viewed as a desperation starter in similar deep seasonal leagues.

Mets | Yoenis Cespedes, James Loney out Sunday

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 07:29:24 -0700

New York Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes (quadriceps) and 1B James Loney are not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez Sunday, July 10. INF Wilmer Flores will bat third and play first base, OF Juan Lagares will bat sixth and play center field and OF Alejandro De Aza will bat eighth and start in left field.

Fantasy Tip: Flores is 11-for-22 (.500) with a double, five home runs and 10 RBI over the past week, so he should be inserted into all fantasy lineups. Lagares is also worthy of lineup consideration, since he is a .406 career hitter versus Gonzalez in 32 at-bats, with three doubles, a triple, a home run and four RBI. De Aza is 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles against Gonzalez and is 4-for-10 at the plate this month.

Mets | Wilmer Flores enjoying power surge

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 20:24:56 -0700

New York Mets SS Wilmer Flores went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run and a walk in a 9-7 win over the Washington Nationals Thursday, July 7, and he has five home runs in his last five games.

Fantasy Tip: Flores has eight homers and 24 RBI on the year, and five homers and 10 RBI have come in the last fives games. The power trip won't last, but he is at least worth a short-term look in NL-only leagues and DFS formats.

Mets | Wilmer Flores on the bench

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 12:53:32 -0700

New York Mets INF Wilmer Flores is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 7. SS Asdrubal Cabrera (personal) returns to shortstop and is hitting sixth, while 1B James Loney is at first base and batting fifth against Washington Nationals SP Lucas Giolito.

Fantasy Tip: Despite a hot streak of late (.375 average, four homers, seven RBI in July), Flores will lose fantasy luster with uncertain playing time now that Jose Reyes is the regular third baseman. Flores could split time with Loney or around the infield, but he's more of a depth option now in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.

Mets | Terry Collins talks lineup options

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 15:17:20 -0700

New York Mets INF Wilmer Flores and SS Jose Reyes are unlikely to start in the same game often, according to manager Terry Collins.

"Look, it's going to be hard to get both guys in there at the same time," Collins said Wednesday, July 6. "One of them is going to have to sit. But, yet, we've got a hot hitter sitting on the bench that we can run up in any big situation during the game when we have to have him. It's going to make us a different-looking club."

Fantasy Tip: Flores is likely to be the one losing playing time in this case, as Reyes stands to see the majority of starts at third base and is a must-own fantasy bat. However, there may be enough at-bats to go around for Flores to maintain value in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. He can start all over the infield, after all. It's a situation to monitor.

Mets | Wilmer Flores has another big showing

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 14:58:21 -0700

New York Mets INF Wilmer Flores went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs during the Mets' 4-2 win over the Miami Marlins Wednesday, July 6.

Fantasy Tip: Over his past 25 games, Flores has 10 runs, six home runs and 17 RBI. However, consistent playing time is going to be a fantasy issue going forward. For now, it's difficult to count on Flores outside of deep mixed and NL-only leagues since Jose Reyes projects to cut into Flores' playing time.

Mets | Three Mets idle Wednesday

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 07:42:11 -0700

New York Mets OF Brandon Nimmo, 1B James Loney and C Travis d'Arnaud are out of the lineup Wednesday, July 6, with 2B Wilmer Flores hitting fifth, OF Juan Lagares hitting seventh and C Rene Rivera hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Flores has a .292-2-5 line the last week, and he's worth low-end consideration against lefty Justin Nicolino. Lagares is hitting .280, but he doesn't present enough upside for more than a basement play. Rivera isn't worth DFS consideration.

Mets | Neil Walker, Brandon Nimmo out

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 13:56:32 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker and OF Brandon Nimmo are not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins left-handed SP Wei-Yin Chen Tuesday, July 5. SS Wilmer Flores is starting at the keystone and is hitting cleanup, while OF Juan Lagares is in center field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: It's likely just a night off for Walker and Nimmo against the lefty. Flores notched six hits and two homers Sunday and is hot right now, so he's a value pick in DFS in the middle of the order. However, with Jose Reyes now playing regularly at third base, Flores' value in traditional leagues takes a big hit. Lagares is known more for his defense and has little fantasy value otherwise.
