Cubs | Anthony Rizzo removed early

Sat, 19 Apr 2014 18:25:15 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (back) was forced to leave the game Saturday, April 19, against the Cincinnati Reds due to back spasms. However, Rizzo said he does not expect to miss the game Sunday, April 20. "It just started barking on me in the fifth or sixth, and once we took the four-run lead, I (decided to) play with more caution than go up there, get another at-bat and go out on the field and hurt it even more," Rizzo said.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo improving against southpaws

Mon, 24 Mar 2014 14:31:12 -0700

At least three major league scouts have noticed that Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo looks more comfortable and is being more selective against left-handed pitchers this spring, and Rizzo is 5-for-11 with two doubles and two RBIs with only one strikeout against lefties in camp. Rizzo hit just .189 in 190 at-bats against southpaws last season.

Fantasy Tip: This is music to the ears of Rizzo owners expecting a breakout season. Note the small sample size, though, and take it for what it is. Still, any improvement from Rizzo against lefties is gravy.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo moved down, Nate Shierholtz up

Fri, 14 Jun 2013 16:30:23 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo, who has been slumping, was moved down to the No. 5 spot in the batting order on Friday, June 14. OF Nate Schierholtz moved into the three-hole on Friday. Schierholtz responded with a homer, his career-high ninth of the season, in the first inning against the New York Mets.

"Just kind of mixing it up," Sveum said. "Right now you could say (Schierholtz) is our best hitter. He's swinging the bat as good as anybody from the left side." Sveum added that he wanted to see if he could get Rizzo to relax by changing his place, but he's not worried about his first baseman.

Fantasy Tip: It's a small positive for the surprising Schierholtz, although it may not last for very long. Rizzo should be just fine in the long term, so this isn't a big deal.
