Cubs | Anthony Rizzo, Miguel Montero back in lineup

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 10:07:28 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (back) and C Miguel Montero (knee) are back in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Paul Clemens Saturday, June 25. In addition, C/OF Willson Contreras will bat cleanup and play left field, while INF Javier Baez plays second base and bats sixth. OF Chris Coghlan and 2B Ben Zobrist (foot) are receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Contreras is 7-for-17 (.412) through the first seven games of his MLB career, with three home runs and eight RBI, and will be making his first appearance in the outfield since being called up. He is a must-start option in DFS this afternoon. Baez is batting .284 with four homers and 14 RBI this month and could see regular time at the keystone position over the next few days if Zobrist is forced to miss multiple games due to a right foot injury.

Cubs | Miguel Montero, Anthony Rizzo updates

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 14:44:44 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo's (back) has loosened up considerably, and he could be available to come off the bench Friday, June 24, according to manager Joe Maddon. Maddon noted, C Miguel Montero (knee) is available Friday, if needed.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Rizzo will be available to pinch hit Friday, if needed. Expect him back in the lineup Saturday, June 25, barring a setback. Montero is quickly becoming a fantasy afterthought with the emergence of Willson Contreras, and it would be wise to replace Montero in all setups.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo remains out vs. Fish

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 12:01:53 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (back) is not in the starting lineup Friday, June 24. OF Chris Coghlan draws into the lineup in left field and is batting fifth against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Friday.

Fantasy Tip: This is the second consecutive game Rizzo is sitting out, as he and the team are being cautious with his nagging back stiffness. Coghlan has a .407 on-base percentage through 12 games since joining the Cubs, but he's still a low-end fantasy option in deep mixed leagues. Stay tuned for updates on Rizzo's status for the weekend.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo being cautious

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 13:32:58 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (back) said his back tightness is different than the injury he dealt with earlier this season, and he is being cautious. Rizzo is considered day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: Rizzo has 43 runs, 17 home runs, 54 RBI and a .277/.402/.558 slash line, and he remains a high-end option in all fantasy formats. Stay tuned for updates, but it doesn't sound like he'll miss much time.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo out vs. Fish

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 12:40:04 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (back) is not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 23. C Willson Contreras is starting at first base and batting fourth against Miami Marlins SP Wei-Yin Chen Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Rizzo exited with back tightness Wednesday, June 22, so it isn't surprising to see him resting Thursday. However, it is interesting to see Contreras grab the start at first base. The hot-shot rookie is 4-for-9 to start his career with two home runs and five RBI, and he posted a .377/.459/.679 slash line through 53 at-bats against southpaws with Class AAA Iowa this year. He's an intriguing option in daily contests Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Rizzo is hitting .390 (16-for-41) with eight runs scored, three homers and 10 RBIs during the impressive run. He is a must-start fantasy option across the board for his power, although his .265 average is not terribly impressive.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo, Chris Coghlan starting

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 11:22:46 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (back) and OF Chris Coghlan are in the starting lineup against Atlanta Braves SP Matt Wisler Saturday, June 11.

Fantasy Tip: During the month of June, Rizzo is 11-for-27 (.407) with two home runs and six RBI, making him a viable option in all fantasy formats. On the other hand, Coghlan is batting just .145 with 57 strikeouts in 159 at-bats this year and should be avoided everywhere.

Cubs | Just a minor injury for Anthony Rizzo

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 15:33:40 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (back) is considered day-to-day and does not have a serious injury, manager Joe Maddon said Friday, June 10.

Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned for updates, but Rizzo doesn't project to miss much time beyond the game Friday, if any. He's struggling a bit of late but owns elite offensive upside and hits in a potent lineup.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo scratched with back injury

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 14:27:06 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (back) was a late scratch because of back tightness Friday, June 10. OF Albert Almora was added to the lineup and is starting in left field and batting eighth against Atlanta Braves SP Bud Norris Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Rizzo is struggling through an active 17-for-73 stretch with just two home runs and nine RBI. You'll want to sub him out where you can in seasonal leagues, but look for a bounce-back run sooner than later. Almora is unlikely to have much success at the plate early on in his first trip through the big leagues, but he warrants a speculative add in cavernous mixed and NL-only setups.
