Pittsburgh Pirates SP Charlie Morton (hip) is scheduled to make his second extended spring training start Thursday, April 23, at the team's minor-league facility in Florida.

Pirates | Charlie Morton will need rehab stint

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 16:15:38 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Charlie Morton (hip) threw a side session Monday, April 6, and will throw a couple of bullpens and a simulated game or two before going on a rehab assignment, according to manager Clint Hurdle.

Fantasy Tip: Morton is only viable in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues at this point, and he is a few weeks from returning, at best. Vance Worley ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) will fill in for Morton, and Worely projects to make his first start Saturday, April 11, against the Milwaukee Brewers. Take a wait-and-see approach with Worely in the majority of fantasy formats. However, his minimal cap hit could be enticing for FantasyScore players Saturday. Still, he would fall in the high-risk, high-reward category.

Pirates | Charlie Morton to DL

Sun, 05 Apr 2015 06:39:22 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Charlie Morton (hip) will begin the season on the disabled list, according to manager Clint Hurdle. "(Morton) just hasn't felt right all spring," general manager Neal Huntington added. "He's been trying to battle through it. His recovery, to be out competing as early as he was, is actually remarkable. We just felt it was in his best interest to take more time to battle through this and get right."

Fantasy Tip: Morton can be ignored in the majority of seasonal leagues, especially with this news. He is best utilized as a streaming option or FantasyScore starter in favorable matchups, as he hardly pushes the needle in mixed leagues. Vance Worley ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) will take Morton's rotation spot, and he projects to make his first start Saturday, April 11, against the Milwaukee Brewers. Take a wait-and-see approach with Worely outside of NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Charlie Morton (hip) felt fine Friday, March 6, a day after making his first appearance in Grapefruit League play. "He said he felt good," manager Clint Hurdle said.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Charlie Morton (hip) has elevated to 30-40 pitches in bullpen sessions, and he expects to be in the rotation at the start of the season.
