Rays | John Jaso continues rehab assignment

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 15:24:32 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso (wrist) said his bruised left wrist was "still sore" after his first two games on a rehab assignment, but he will rejoin Class A Charlotte Tuesday, June 30.

Fantasy Tip: Jaso ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) figures to see most of the starts at catcher for the Rays when he returns, as Rene Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) leaves plenty to be desired with the bat. Consider adding Jaso if he's available in your two-catcher or AL-only leagues.

Rays | John Jaso to start rehab assignment

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 13:17:33 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso (wrist) will start his rehab assignment with Class A Charlotte Saturday, June 27.

Fantasy Tip: Jaso ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) should see most of the starts at catcher for the Rays when he's ready, but it's unknown how long he'll need on a rehab assignment. Target him in AL-only leagues or setups that start two catchers if you're hurting at the position.

Rays | John Jaso continues progress

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 13:45:28 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso (wrist) will hit in the batting cage Monday, June 22, so he can face more velocity than he has been seeing in batting practice.

Fantasy Tip: Jaso ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is likely still three weeks away. With little certainty about where he fits into the Rays' lineup and plan, Jaso is nothing more than a speculative grab for year-long owners searching for backstop help. Still, he isn't worth stashing in the majority of deep formats at this point. From 2012-2014 Jaso reached base at a .372 clip, which will be help his FantasyScore value, especially at the shallow catcher position.

Rays | John Jaso heading on road trip

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 14:43:57 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso (wrist) will go on the upcoming road trip and participate in on-field pregame work.

Fantasy Tip: Jaso ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is eyeing a return around the All-Star break. Seasonal owners looking for catcher help can turn to Jaso, however, there is little certainty about where he fits into the Rays' lineup and plan. He isn't worth stashing in the majority of deep formats at this point, though. Jaso's ability to reach base (.372 OBP from 2012-2014) will be a bonus to his FantasyScore value, especially at a shallow position.

Rays | John Jaso to hit balls Friday

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 15:10:41 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso (wrist) will hit balls off a tee Friday, June 12, and he thinks he can return to the team by the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: Jaso ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) could figure significantly into the Ray's plans once he's healthy, but that's a big unknown right now. After all, the combination of Rene Rivera and Bobby Wilson at catcher has been pretty bad. You may want to consider stashing him now in AL-only leagues, but you can likely hold off everywhere else until he's closer to returning.

Rays | John Jaso optimistic about return

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 13:21:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso (wrist) said he is making progress and expects to be on a rehab assignment within the next month if not back with the team.

Fantasy Tip: Jaso ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is still a few weeks away, and he'll need to take some hacks during a rehab assignment. Seasonal owners looking for catcher help can turn to Jaso when there is a clearer timetable for his return, however, there is little certainty about where he fits into the Rays' lineup and plan. He isn't worth stashing in the majority of formats at this point. Jaso's ability to reach base (.372 OBP from 2012-2014) will be a bonus to his FantasyScore value, especially at a shallow position.

Wed, 20 May 2015 17:47:35 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso (wrist) has been swinging a bat but is not ready to hit off a tee at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Jaso ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) likely is still a few weeks away from returning to the team and likely will need to play in some rehab games. Owners on FantasyScore should avoid him until he is able to play again.

Rays | John Jaso close to swinging bat

Mon, 11 May 2015 14:09:26 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso (wrist) said the swelling in his wrist is almost gone, and he has started strength conditioning. Jaso thinks he could start swinging a bat within a week.

Fantasy Tip: Jaso ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) isn't close to returning to the starting lineup, as he'll still likely need to go on a minor league rehab assignment. When he's ready, though, he should return to a starting catching role for the Rays. Rene Rivera ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) and Bobby Wilson ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) continue to split the catching duties in the meantime, and both are weak FantasyScore plays.

Rays | No baseball activities for John Jaso

Tue, 05 May 2015 15:26:22 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso (wrist) hasn't resumed baseball activities yet, and he's slowly healing.

Fantasy Tip: Jaso ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) doesn't look like he's ready to return anytime soon for the Rays. Rene Rivera ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) and Bobby Wilson ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) are splitting time behind the dish and are very weak catching options at FantasyScore.
