Tigers | Tyler Collins scratched vs. Twins

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 09:48:17 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Tyler Collins (neck) was scratched because of neck spasms Wednesday, July 20. INF/OF Mike Aviles will start in right field against Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Aviles to hit in the lower portion of the lineup, and he's a low-end fantasy option in all formats Wednesday. Make sure to remove Collins from all starting lineups.

Tigers | James McCann, Tyler Collins sitting

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 12:47:51 -0700

Detroit Tigers C James McCann and OF Tyler Collins are not in the starting lineup Monday, July 18. INF/OF Mike Aviles is starting in right field and batting seventh, and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco Monday.

Fantasy Tip: McCann is just 7-for-37 in July and should be viewed as a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues. Saltalamacchia is a potential flier in daily contests Monday, but he's got very little seasonal value. Aviles remains a viable depth option in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats, while Collins also has fleeting value in those deep settings.

Tigers | Steven Moya sits out

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 14:50:44 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Steven Moya is out of the lineup Saturday, July 16, with OF Mike Aviles hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles is hitting just .209 and hasn't done much against lefties to warrant the start against Danny Duffy.

Tigers | James McCann, Jose Iglesias starting

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 07:46:07 -0700

Detroit Tigers C James McCann and SS Jose Iglesias are back in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey Sunday, July 10. In addition, INF/OF Mike Aviles is batting seventh and playing right field, with OF Steven Moya receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: After a disastrous beginning to 2016, McCann is batting .267 in 90 at-bats since June 1, with four homers and 13 RBI, making him a viable catching option in all fantasy formats. Aviles is just 3-for-18 at the plate this month and is not a great option anywhere.

Tigers | Steven Moya out against a lefty

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 11:38:04 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Steven Moya is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays left-handed SP J.A. Happ Friday, July 8. INF/OF Mike Aviles is starting in right field and is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles has very limited offensive upside with his .217/.272/.264 slash line, one home run and six RBI on the season. He especially is unlikely to make a daily impact hitting low in Detroit's lineup tonight. Look elsewhere.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos scratched

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 14:37:42 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos (illness) was a late scratch from the game against the Cleveland Indians Tuesday, July 5, because of flu-like symptoms. INF/OF Mike Aviles draws into the lineup at third base and will bat seventh against Cleveland SP Carlos Carrasco Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Sub out Castellanos where you can in seasonal leagues, and view Aviles as as desperation fantasy option against Carrasco in all formats Tuesday. Expect Castellanos to return to the lineup sooner than later.

Detroit Tigers OF Steven Moya is not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Blake Snell Saturday, July 2. 3B Mike Aviles will start in right field and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Tigers | Steven Moya sitting vs. Rays

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 13:39:16 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Steven Moya is not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays left-handed SP Drew Smyly Friday, July 1. INF/OF Mike Aviles is starting in right field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Moya has become the regular in right field with J.D. Martinez hurt, but he'll take a seat against the southpaw. Aviles is hitting only .215 on the year with a homer and six RBI, so his offensive profile is limited. Consider him a deep sleeper in DFS tonight.

Tigers | Mike Aviles starting against Miami

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 12:31:53 -0700

Detroit Tigers INF/OF Mike Aviles is starting in right field and batting eighth against Miami Marlins SP Adam Conley Tuesday, June 28. OF Steven Moya (knee) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles has a .533 OPS this season and should be viewed as a depth player in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats. Moya hasn't played since sustaining a knee injury Friday, June 24, and at this point, he should be left to similar deep leagues.

Indians | Josh Tomlin picks up ninth victory

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 14:31:51 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin defeated the Detroit Tigers for the third time in as many starts this season on Sunday, June 26, allowing three runs - all on solo homers to DH Victor Martinez (two) and INF/OF Mike Aviles - on six hits over eight innings.

Fantasy Tip: Tomlin has served up more than twice as many home runs (18) as he has allowed walks (eight), which sums up the kind of pitcher he is - pitch to contact and let the hitter make the mistakes. The Texas Tech product is 5-0 with a 2.76 ERA this season on the road, where he will find himself again on Friday when he faces the Toronto Blue Jays. Given his weak strikeout numbers, he's probably not worth the risk in that matchup.
