Indians | Asdrubal Cabrera expected to stay

Thu, 31 Oct 2013 02:06:38 -0700

The Cleveland Indians are not expected to move SS Asdrubal Cabrera this winter. Paul Hoynes, a veteran Cleveland Indians columnist for the Plain Dealer, speculates SS Mike Aviles is only a part-time player and SS prospect Francisco Lindor isn't quite ready for duty due to a back injury last year.

Indians | Asdrubal Cabrera could return soon

Tue, 25 Jun 2013 09:33:13 -0700

Cleveland Indians SS Asdrubal Cabrera (quadriceps) has been taking groundballs and running the bases, and manager Terry Francona said he could return from the disabled list soon.

Fantasy Tip: Prepare for the return of A-Cab on your fantasy squads. Once he's back, Mike Aviles will lose his value in mixed formats, and he'll return to utility infield duty.

Indians | Asdrubal Cabrera works out

Fri, 21 Jun 2013 13:49:43 -0700

Cleveland Indians SS Asdrubal Cabrera (quadriceps) took ground balls and hit on the field Friday, June 21, and it's possible that he could return after the team's series against the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera seems to be ahead of schedule. Until he returns, Mike Aviles will retain his deep mixed value as middle infield insurance.

Indians | Juan Diaz recalled

Tue, 04 Jun 2013 12:05:34 -0700

The Cleveland Indians recalled SS Juan Diaz from Triple-A Columbus Tuesday, June 4, to take the place of SS Asdrubal Cabrera (quadriceps) on the roster.

Fantasy Tip: Diaz will serve as depth on the infield with Cabrera on the disabled list. Mike Aviles should be your target on the waiver wire if you're searching for infield help.

Indians | Asdrubal Cabrera to the DL

Tue, 04 Jun 2013 11:15:07 -0700

The Cleveland Indians placed SS Asdrubal Cabrera (quadriceps) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, June 4, with a strained right quadriceps.

Fantasy Tip: A strained quadriceps may be good news considering Cabrera's injury looked much worse Monday evening when he pulled up lame running to first base. Expect him to miss more than the two-week DL timetable, though. Mike Aviles will fill in at shortstop in the meantime. Pick him up in all formats if your middle infield depth has been tested.

Indians | Asdrubal Cabrera helped off field

Mon, 03 Jun 2013 17:15:30 -0700

Cleveland Indians SS Asdrubal Cabrera (leg) had to be helped off the field after injuring his lower half while running to first base Monday, June 3.

Fantasy Tip: This didn't look pretty. He wasn't putting any weight on his right leg and was grimacing extensively. Expect Cabrera to land on the disabled list, and he probably won't return within two weeks. Francisco Lindor, one of the team's top prospects, probably isn't ready for the big leagues, so expect Mike Aviles to be the primary shortstop for the time being. Aviles can provide middle infield depth in all formats.

Indians | Asdrubal Cabrera dealing with lingering injury

Thu, 30 May 2013 17:36:35 -0700

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said SS Asdrubal Cabrera (quadriceps) has been dealing with a right quadriceps injury on and off since late April. Francona said the team has been monitoring the situation and that Cabrera has been good about letting the team knows how he feels.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera has been dealing with the injury for several weeks but has not gone on the disabled list at this point. There is still a chance he could go on the DL if the injury affects his play. If he did miss some time, Mike Aviles likely would see most of the time at shortstop. Aviles would be an waiver pick up in AL-only leagues as well as some deep mixed leagues if an owner was looking to add depth.

Indians | Mark Reynolds takes over at 3B

Sun, 19 May 2013 18:39:31 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Mark Reynolds takes over as the team's regular third baseman following the demotion of 3B Lonnie Chisenhall to Triple-A Columbus. While Reynolds had 26 errors at third base in 114 games, he will start there regularly. INF Mike Aviles and OF Ryan Raburn can also play third base.

Indians | Mark Reynolds to be regular 3B

Tue, 14 May 2013 15:20:44 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Mark Reynolds will be the primary third baseman with 3B Lonnie Chisenhall being sent to Triple-A Columbus. "Mark will get the majority of the time at third," said manager Terry Francona. "Mike Aviles can play there as well." Reynolds is leading the American League with 11 home runs, is third in slugging percentage at .598 and fifth in RBIs with 32.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds is swinging a red-hot stick, and playing regularly defensively could help him sustain his hot pace. Aviles could be mixed in every now and then, giving him a tad bit more value in AL-only leagues.

Indians | Two options at 3B

Mon, 13 May 2013 11:37:39 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Mark Reynolds started the first game of a doubleheader at third base Monday, May 13, but SS Mike Aviles can also play the hot corner after the team optioned 3B Lonnie Chisenhall to Triple-A Columbus.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds is already owned in all formats, but Aviles should now be picked up in AL-only leagues and considered in deep mixed formats as corner infield depth.
