Blue Jays | Michael Saunders on the bench

Sun, 29 May 2016 09:12:19 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Michael Saunders is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP David Price Sunday, May 29. OF Ezequiel Carrera will start in left field and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Carrera has received only limited playing time this month but is hitting .350 with two RBI in May. Owners in most leagues should be able to find better options to use in their lineup and can avoid Carrera.

Blue Jays | Ezequiel Carrera leading off vs. Red Sox

Fri, 27 May 2016 13:05:01 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Ezequiel Carrera is starting in right field and batting first against Boston Red Sox SP Joe Kelly Friday, May 27, with OF Jose Bautista out of the lineup serving a one-game suspension.

Fantasy Tip: Carrera has made the most of his opportunities this season going 16-for-48 with 12 runs and a .843 OPS. He doesn't see enough at-bats to be anything more than a depth piece in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, but he does check out as a viable low-priced flier in daily contests Friday.

Blue Jays | Kevin Pillar sitting vs. Twins

Fri, 20 May 2016 14:12:45 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Kevin Pillar is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 20. OF Ezequiel Carrera is starting in center field and batting eighth against Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Pillar is a viable starter in deep leagues, but he is currently reeling along an 0-for-17 stretch, so a night off might help him return to form. In his previous 26 games since being demoted down the lineup, Pillar returned 10 runs, two home runs, 12 RBI, three stolen bases and a .323/.352/.485 slash line. There's upside, but expect the peaks and valleys to continue. Carrera is a potential low-priced flier in daily contests Friday, as he has started the season 16-for-45 (.356 batting average) at the dish.

Blue Jays | Kevin Pillar not in Saturday lineup

Sat, 14 May 2016 22:55:18 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Kevin Pillar (chest) was not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 14, due to chest soreness. OF Ezequiel Carrera started in Pillar's place, but Pillar entered the game in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on this injury, which doesn't look too serious. If Pillar can be scratched from a starting lineup and then come in as a replacement, then he should be all right for future contests.

Blue Jays | Two Jays sitting Wednesday

Wed, 11 May 2016 10:58:47 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Michael Saunders and 2B Ryan Goins are out of the lineup Wednesday, May 11. OF Ezequiel Carrera is hitting eighth, and 2B Darwin Barney hits seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Carrera is hitting .350 in 40 at-bats this season, and he's a basement flyer against Madison Bumgarner. It's a lefty-lefty matchup, but Carrera is 6-for-12 (.500) with a homer against lefties this year. Barney has opened eyes with a .357 average and is 5-for-17 (.294) lifetime against MadBum. He has his limits, though, and he has limited upside in DFS.

Blue Jays | Michael Saunders resting vs. southpaw

Thu, 05 May 2016 13:01:18 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Michael Saunders is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers left-handed SP Derek Holland Thursday, May 5. OF Ezequiel Carrera is starting in left field and hitting ninth. Also, OF Kevin Pillar moves up to the leadoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: Carrera is more of a defensive player and should be ignored in all fantasy formats. Pillar's value takes a significant jump moving up to the leadoff spot in a potent offense. Consider him a sleeper selection in DFS action this evening.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 01 May 2016 07:36:59 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is out of the lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi Sunday, May 1. DH/1B Edwin Encarnacion will play first base and bat fifth, with OF Jose Bautista batting third and serving as the designated hitter. OF Ezequiel Carrera will start in right field and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak is just 3-for-19 at the plate since assuming Toronto's starting job at first base on a full-time basis and should continue to be viewed as a low-end option at the position in all fantasy formats going forward. Carrera is hitting .344 with three extra-base hits through his first 32 at-bats and is worthy of consideration as a value play in daily games this afternoon.

Toronto Blue Jays OF Kevin Pillar is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Miguel Gonzalez Monday, April 25. OF Ezequiel Carrera will start in center field and is batting first in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Carrera is on a hot streak with seven hits and one RBI over his last three games. Carrera could be an attractive option for owners on daily fantasy leagues while he is on his hot streak.

Blue Jays | Ezequiel Carrera caps stellar weekend

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 14:00:49 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Ezequiel Carrera went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Sunday, April 24, and went 7-for-14 with four runs scored during his team's three-game series over the weekend with the Oakland Athletics.

Fantasy Tip: Regular leadoff hitter Michael Saunders is nursing a hamstring injury, but it is fair to wonder if Toronto will consider leaving Carrera atop the order after his strong showing against Oakland; he's at least done enough to make it worth a discussion in the Blue Jays' clubhouse. If the 27-year-old Venezuelan can wrestle some playing time away from Saunders and keep his spot as the leadoff hitter, he has immense run-scoring potential in Toronto's potent offense.

Toronto Blue Jays OF Michael Saunders (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt Saturday, April 23. OF Ezequiel Carrera will start in left field and is batting first in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Carrera has only two hits in his last 13 at-bats and probably can be avoided in most fantasy leagues.
