MLB | Austin Jackson has irons in the fire

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 13:09:11 -0800

Free-agent OF Austin Jackson (Cubs) received interest from the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Texas Rangers, and the Chicago Cubs could look to re-sign Jackson for the right price.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson is beginning to flame out with a .261/.310/.364 slash line over the past two seasons and underwhelming counting stats. Full-time at-bats would help his cause in cavernous mixed and only leagues, but at this point, he is likely best left to the waiver wire in the majority of leagues. There is bounce-back potential in the right setting, though.

Royals | KC won't re-sign Alex Gordon

Wed, 23 Dec 2015 11:18:24 -0800

Free-agent OF Alex Gordon (Royals) told the Kansas City Royals that as things currently stand, they have "no chance" of re-signing him, according to sources. The Royals are now looking around at other free-agent outfielders such as Denard Span (Nationals), Austin Jackson (Cubs) and Gerardo Parra (Orioles). The Royals are believed have made a four-year offer to Gordon in the "$12-13 million" per year range. Gordon is believed to be seeking a deal closer to $20 million a season and is drawing interest from the Baltimore Orioles, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, San Francisco Giants and others.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon won't give the Royals a hometown discount this time around. He's a well-balanced player that can give a team a huge boost in outfield defense, as well. He doesn't do anything that particularly stands out, but he has great contact and on-base skills that can provide nice outfield depth for fantasy owners in the middle rounds.

Indians | CLE had interest in Austin Jackson

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 18:19:22 -0800

The Cleveland Indians had interest in free-agent OF Austin Jackson (Cubs) but ultimately decided to sign OF Rajai Davis in order to save money.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson, who will turn 29 in February, hit .267 with nine home runs, 48 RBIs and 17 steals in 136 regular-season games last season with the Seattle Mariners and Chicago Cubs. He should be available in the middle rounds of drafts for single-universe leagues and the later rounds for mixed leagues.

Mariners | Seattle wants athletic OF

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 10:13:33 -0800

The Seattle Mariners may be inclined to trade for the likes of New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner, St. Louis Cardinals OFs Jon Jay or Peter Bourjos, Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin or Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley Jr. rather than sign impending free-agent OFs Dexter Fowler (Cubs), Austin Jackson (Cubs) or Denard Span (Nationals).

Fantasy Tip: Gardner is likely Seattle's top trade target and is the biggest fantasy name of the bunch. A move to pitcher-friendly Safeco Field would turn many off to Gardner, but that could make him a better value pick in 2016 fantasy drafts for his speed.

Cubs | Austin Jackson starting in left field

Sat, 10 Oct 2015 11:43:17 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Austin Jackson will bat sixth and play left field against St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia in Game 2 of the National League Division Series Saturday, Oct. 10. OF Chris Coghlan is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) draws the start in Game 2 because he hit .281 with six home runs and 25 RBIs in 167 at-bats versus lefties in the regular season, while Coghlan ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) hit just .116 against southpaws. Jackson was on a hot streak at the plate to end the regular season, so he's definitely worthy of consideration for FantasyScore lineups tonight.

Cubs | Dexter Fowler not in starting lineup

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 11:37:26 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler is not in the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Jorge Lopez Sunday, Oct. 4. OF Austin Jackson will bat leadoff and play center field.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is 8-for-18 with two home runs and 10 RBIs over the past week. FantasyScore owners should take advantage of his hot bat and add him to their lineups.

Cubs | Austin Jackson drives in three

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 18:13:09 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Austin Jackson went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, two runs scored and a walk in a 5-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds Thursday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has eight RBI over the past two games after managing just two RBI in his first 22 games with the Cubs. His production is likely to fall back off soon, but if you are going to gamble on him at FantasyScore, now is the time.

Cubs | Jorge Soler takes a seat

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 07:05:47 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler is out of the lineup Thursday, Oct. 1, with OF Austin Jackson hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: A-Jax ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has a .375-1-7 line in 16 at-bats the last week. Those were his only RBIs in his .226 month of September. Lefty John Lamb is a good matchup for him as he is hitting .282 against lefties this year. He's a solid choice on FantasyScore in the lower levels.

Cubs | Dexter Fowler, Miguel Montero resting

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 11:42:10 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler and C Miguel Montero are not in the lineup Wednesday, Sept. 30. OF Austin Jackson is starting in center field and batting second, while C David Ross is catching and hitting eighth against Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani.

Fantasy Tip: Ross ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is a defense-first player that isn't a smart buy on a day with a full slate of games. Jackson ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has hit only .195 (11-for-57) with no homers and two RBI in 24 games for the Cubbies, but he could be a sleeper pick that pays off against a hittable pitcher in a favorable lineup spot tonight.

Cubs | Kyle Schwarber out of the lineup

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 07:55:18 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Kyle Schwarber is not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano Saturday, Sept. 26. OF Austin Jackson will start in left field and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Schwarber ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) is sitting out because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. Jackson ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is hitting only .212 with two RBI this month and is not a great option on FantasyScore.
