Angels | Johnny Giavotella takes a seat

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 15:10:20 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2B Johnny Giavotella is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 22. 2B Gregorio Petit is starting at the keystone and is hitting ninth against Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers.

Fantasy Tip: It's likely a normal day of rest for Giavotella. Petit is hitting .281 on the year but has limited offensive skills with only two home runs and 15 RBI in 128 at-bats. He's also never stolen a base in his five-year career. Ignore him everywhere.

Angels | Johnny Giavotella sitting out

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 16:57:25 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2B Johnny Giavotella is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP Kyle Lohse Tuesday, July 19. 2B Gregorio Petit will start at second base and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Petit is hitting .282 in his limited playing time this season and has five hits in 15 at-bats this month. He can be an option in some daily fantasy leagues, but owners in most leagues should be able to find better options.

Angels | Three sitting out for Angels

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 10:56:53 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava, 2B Johnny Giavotella and C Jett Bandy are not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Jacob Turner Sunday, July 17. C Geovany Soto will start at catcher and is batting sixth. 2B Gregorio Petit will start at second base and is batting eighth. OF Todd Cunningham will start in left field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Soto has gone 2-for-7 since returning from the disabled list and should be a decent option in two-catcher leagues. Soto has gone 3-for-11 in his limited playing time this month, but owners should be able to find better options. Cunningham is hitting only .067 this season and should be avoided in all leagues.

Angels | Several Halos regulars resting Sunday

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 07:42:04 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava, 2B Johnny Giavotella and C Jett Bandy are not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman Sunday, July 10. INF Jefry Marte will bat fifth and play first base, 1B/OF Ji-Man Choi will start in left field and hit sixth, C Geovany Soto will start behind the plate and bat eighth and INF Gregorio Petit will hit ninth and play second base.

Fantasy Tip: Soto is making his first appearance since being activated from the disabled list due to a torn meniscus in his right knee and should be avoided in his first game back. Marte and Choi are both batting well below the Mendoza line this season and are not worthy of consideration for daily fantasy lineups, while Petit is nothing more than a source of emergency cap relief.

Angels | Three starters sitting for Angels

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 09:48:40 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Daniel Nava, 2B Johnny Giavotella and C Carlos Perez are not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Sean O'Sullivan Sunday, July 3. 3B Jefry Marte will start in left field and is batting sixth. SS Gregorio Petit will start at second base and is batting seventh, while C Jett Bandy will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Marte has only three hits in his last 20 at-bats and is not a strong fantasy option at this point. Petit is hitting .279 in limited playing time this season, but owners should be able to find better options for their lineups. Bandy has seven hits and two home runs in his last eight games and should have value in two-catcher leagues.

Angels | Yunel Escobar, C.J. Cron out

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 15:43:52 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Yunel Escobar (knee) and 1B C.J. Cron are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 28. SS Gregorio Petit is starting at the hot corner and hitting seventh, while 3B Jefry Marte is at first base and is batting sixth against Houston Astros SP Scott Feldman.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar continues to be bothered by a knee issue, so keep him out of all lineups until further notice. It looks like a normal rest day for Cron. Both Petit and Marte have limited offensive upside and should be considered low-end daily picks.

Angels | Gregorio Petit out of options

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 19:16:40 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Gregorio Petit is out of options, so the team risks losing him if exposed to waivers. He has been seeing more playing time with SS Cliff Pennington (hamstring) sidelined. Once Pennington returns, the team faces an interesting roster decision.

Fantasy Tip: Petit is only worth using right now in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues since his playing time is rather sporadic. When Pennington returns, Petit's at-bats could dry up even more.

Angels | Johnny Giavotella sitting vs. Astros

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 13:18:21 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2B Johnny Giavotella is not in the starting lineup Monday, June 20. SS Gregorio Petit is starting at second base and batting ninth against Houston Astros SP Doug Fister Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Giavotella is an option in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues because of his consistent playing time. And now that Giavotella is healthy, Petit doesn't warrant a roster spot in seasonal leagues.

Angels | Gregorio Petit could play some 2B

Thu, 09 Jun 2016 15:04:41 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Gregorio Petit could see some playing time alongside 2B Johnny Giavotella once SS Andrelton Simmons (thumb) comes off the disabled list this weekend, according to manager Mike Scioscia. Heading into Thursday, June 9, Petit is hitting .407 over his last eight games to raise his average to .288 on the year in 80 at-bats. Petit is the better defender over Giavotella, and Giavotella has an 0-for-17 slump entering Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Petit has never had more than 100 plate appearances in a single big league season, so the small sample size this year doesn't truly reflect his potential, and he's likely due for some regression after he's posted a career .264 average with only three home runs in five seasons. The 31-year-old will surely lose value in AL-only leagues once Simmons returns.

Angels | Two unlikely Halo power sources

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 22:02:02 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Jefry Marte and SS Gregorio Petit each hit home runs in the loss Wednesday, June 8, against the New York Yankees. Both players finished with two hits, with Marte driving in a run and Petit finishing with two RBIs.

Fantasy Tip: Marte and Petit are still only worth a look in the deepest of AL-only seasonal fantasy leagues, but remember them in DFS if they start again in the near future. They might be worth a roll of the dice at a low price.
