Pirates | Francisco Cervelli, David Freese out

Sun, 01 May 2016 08:54:41 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates C Francisco Cervelli and 3B David Freese are not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP Tim Adleman Sunday, May 1. INF Sean Rodriguez will bat sixth and play the hot corner, while C Chris Stewart will bat eighth and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart and Rodriguez should both be viewed as solid value plays in daily fantasy leagues this afternoon. Stewart is 5-for-18 with a double, home run and two RBI, while Rodriguez is batting .333 with two doubles, four home runs, 13 RBI in just 30 at-bats.

Pirates | John Jaso, David Freese sitting out

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 15:26:34 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B John Jaso and 3B David Freese are not in the starting lineup Friday, April 22. 1B Jason Rogers is starting at first base and is hitting sixth, while 1B Sean Rodriguez starts at third and is batting seventh against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin. Also, SS Jordy Mercer moves to the leadoff spot and OF Gregory Polanco drops to eighth in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Rogers and Rodriguez don't move the needle all that much in daily fantasy leagues hitting near the bottom of the order. But they are facing a lefty in a positive hitting environment. Mercer has a little more intrigue as a low-end shortstop play, while Polanco loses some luster in daily formats against the southpaw.

Pirates | John Jaso, David Freese productive

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 14:27:51 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B John Jaso and 3B David Freese each went 3-for-5 against the Detroit Tigers Thursday, April 14. Freese also recorded one RBI during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Jaso and Freese have started off well with their new team and are both hitting over .340 at this point. Jaso should be attractive to some mixed league owners since he is batting leadoff for the Pirates. Freese is hitting in the middle of the lineup and could be used as a corner infielder in mixed leagues.

Pirates | Matt Joyce hitting third

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 07:21:34 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Matt Joyce is hitting third as the designated hitter Monday, April 11, in place of 3B David Freese.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce is hitting .353 with two homers and five RBIs in 17 career at-bats against Justin Verlander, and Joyce is a decent DFS flyer.

Pirates | David Freese has two hits in debut

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 13:59:55 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B David Freese had two hits in his debut with the team Sunday, April 3. The Pirates scored a 4-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Freese had two hits along with Francisco Cervelli and Gregory Polanco. Admittedly, Freese knows St. Louis pitching from his time with the club, but the reality is Pittsburgh may have a sleeper on its hands. Pencil him in as a backup 3B or floater on your roster, but beware Freese could lose playing time when Jung-Ho Kang returns from his knee injury.

Pirates | David Freese hitting third

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 08:11:31 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B David Freese is hitting third behind OF Andrew McCutchen Sunday, April 3, in the season opener.

Fantasy Tip: Freese should be a cheap daily option that has some promise.

Pirates | David Freese joins Pittsburgh

Fri, 11 Mar 2016 15:26:45 -0800

Free-agent 3B David Freese (Angels) signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday, March 11.

Fantasy Tip: Freese could land nearly full-time at-bats to start the season if Jung Ho Kang (leg, knee) isn't healthy for opening day. However, it is likely Freese serves in a bench role as a utility corner infielder for most of the season. This is a decent boost to the NL-only player pool, though. At this point, you'll want to limit your exposure to Freese to cavernous formats.

Indians | Cleveland interested in David Freese

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 17:56:16 -0800

The Cleveland Indians have monitored the market for free-agent 3B David Freese (Angels).

Fantasy Tip: Cleveland is looking for a veteran infielder to platoon at the hot corner with 3B Giovanny Urshela and they have expressed interest in both Freese and free-agent 3B Juan Uribe (Mets). Freese hit .257 with 14 home runs and 56 RBIs in 121 games for the Angels last season but should only be drafted during the later rounds of drafts for single-universe or cavernous mixed leagues, especially if he's just playing part-time.

MLB | David Freese unlikely to return to Angels

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 15:05:08 -0800

Free-agent 3B David Freese (Angels) is not expected to return to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim because the team recently acquired 3B Yunel Escobar.

Fantasy Tip: Freese has flashed some upside throughout his career, and he can string together nice runs. However, honing in at him at FantasyScore during a hot stretch is better than saddling your yearly team with him in the majority of formats. Stay tuned for updates on where Freese signs.

Angels | LAA could bring back David Freese

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 17:54:23 -0800

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have had talks with free-agent 3B David Freese (Angels) about a return, according to general manager Billy Eppler.

Fantasy Tip: Freese hit .257 with 14 home runs and 56 RBIs in 2015 but only played in 121 regular-season games because of finger and hamstring injuries. He's a steady but unspectacular player who should only be a fantasy option in single-universe or deep mixed leagues.
