Padres | Derek Norris, Alexei Ramirez sitting

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 12:42:55 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris and SS Alexei Ramirez are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 13. C Christian Bethancourt is catching and hitting sixth, while SS Alexi Amarista is at shortstop and is hitting eighth against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerad Eickhoff. Also, 3B Adam Rosales gets a start at third base and is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Eickhoff is an impressive young pitcher for the Phils, so the Padres could have trouble with him in the series finale. Bethancourt, Amarista and Rosales are all low-end options in daily formats today.

Padres | Alexei Ramirez contract details

Fri, 22 Jan 2016 17:27:03 -0800

Updating a previous report, San Diego Padres SS Alexei Ramirez signed a one-year contract worth $3 million. The deal also includes a $4 million mutual option for the 2017 season.

Fantasy Tip: The 34-year-old Ramirez hit .249 with 10 home runs and 62 RBIs in 154 games last season and could experience a dip in those numbers while playing his home games at the pitcher-friendly Petco Park. On the other hand, he did walk more frequently and strike out less often in 2015 than he had in other recent seasons, according to FanGraphs.com. He is a low-end middle infield option who should be selected in the later rounds of NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Padres | Alexei Ramirez signs with San Diego

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 12:11:34 -0800

Free-agent SS Alexei Ramirez (White Sox) signed a one-year contract with the San Diego Padres Thursday, Jan. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez is coming off the worst season of his career and heading to pitcher-friendly PETCO Park doesn't bode well for the 34-year-old shortstop turning it around. At best, Ramirez is a low-end middle infielder in cavernous mixed and NL-only formats.

Padres | San Diego close to signing SS

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 09:44:15 -0800

The San Diego Padres are close to signing a shortstop not free-agent SS Ian Desmond (Nationals), according to sources. Free-agent SS Alexei Ramirez (White Sox) appears to be their choice, barring a surprise.

Fantasy Tip: The fantasy appeal of Ramirez is very low right now, especially after he posted a .249 average with 10 home runs and 17 stolen bases in his final season with the Chicago White Sox. Moving to pitcher-friendly Petco Park will further reduce his appeal, although he can run a bit. He's a low-end middle infield option in deep mixed formats.

Padres | SD talking to Alexei Ramirez

Fri, 08 Jan 2016 09:33:45 -0800

The San Diego Padres are still talking with free-agent SS Alexei Ramirez (White Sox), and he would require a shorter deal than free-agent SS Ian Desmond (Nationals).

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez's final season with the White Sox was a disappointing one, as he hit a career-low .249 (145-for-583) with 10 home runs and 62 RBI. We all know he doesn't have much pop, and a move to Petco Park would further limit his ability to drive the baseball. Ramirez would be an unattractive low-end shortstop in mixed leagues in San Diego.

White Sox | Alexei Ramirez's option nixed

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 10:11:43 -0800

Chicago White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez's option for the 2016 season was declined Wednesday, Nov. 4. He'll receive a $1 million buyout.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez is just a year removed from a .273-15-74 season with 21 steals. He can be a midrange option at a thin position, despite him being 34 years old.

White Sox | ChiSox could bring back Alexei Ramirez

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 17:07:05 -0700

The Chicago White Sox may be interested in picking up the $10 million player option for SS Alexei Ramirez for the 2016 season.

Fantasy Tip: After only batting .224 prior to the All-Star break, Ramirez rebounded nicely during the second half, hitting .277 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs in 271 at-bats. You could do worse at the shortstop position in AL-only leagues next season but owners in universal leagues should aim higher.

White Sox | Four Regulars out for White Sox

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 07:28:21 -0700

Chicago White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez, OF Avisail Garcia, 1B Adam LaRoche and C Tyler Flowers are not in the starting lineup against the New York Yankees Sunday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Tip: J.B. Shuck ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) draws into the lineup and is batting fifth against New York SP Luis Severino ($7,600, 15.2% of cap), and Shuck could be an off-the-radar outfield option at FantasyScore Sunday. Rob Brantly ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) and Tyler Saladino ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) are nothing more than desperation fliers Sunday.

White Sox | Group of ChiSox regulars out for Game 2

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 14:02:43 -0700

Chicago White Sox OF Adam Eaton, SS Alexei Ramirez, OF Melky Cabrera and C Tyler Flowers are all out of the lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers Monday, Sept. 21. 3B Tyler Saladino is starting at the 6 and hitting second, OF Trayce Thompson is starting in left field and batting cleanup, C Rob Brantly is catching and hitting eighth, and OF Leury Garcia is in center field and batting ninth against Detroit Tigers SP Randy Wolf.

Fantasy Tip: Against the hittable Randy Wolf tonight, several White Sox players are worth stacking on FantasyScore, but only Thompson ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) should really excite you of this bunch as a deep sleeper on FantasyScore. Hitting cleanup certainly gives him a better chance to drive in runs, too.

White Sox | No Alexei Ramirez vs. Oakland

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 15:27:10 -0700

Chicago White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 16. 3B Tyler Saladino is starting at shortstop and batting ninth against Oakland Athletics SP Cody Martin Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Ramirez ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday. He has a .327/.411/.490 slash line in September, and he stands to finish the season strong. Saladino ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has a .613 OPS, and he is nothing more than a low-priced flier at FantasyScore Wednesday, and you should likely aim higher.
