RB Jamaal Charles (non-injury), TE Jeff Heuerman (shoulder), LB Von Miller (knee), CB Bradley Roby (ankle), FS Darian Stewart (groin), CB Aqib Talib (non-injury) and WR Demaryius Thomas (hamstring) fully participated in practice and are not on the injury report.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles ready to play

Fri, 22 Sep 2017 15:00:33 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (non-injury) fully participated in practice and is not on the injury report for Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has been productive as the No. 2 running back for the Broncos and has rushed for at least 40 yards in each of the first two games of the season. He probably will receive a similar workload in Week 3 and probably should only be a possible flex option in deeper leagues.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles returns to practice

Thu, 21 Sep 2017 15:16:47 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (non-injury related) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 21, one day after he was held out.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is just fine and has been rested on Wednesdays due to his age. Although he's the clear backup to C.J. Anderson, the former Kansas City Chief has managed to post some modest numbers thus far, logging 86 yards on 19 rushes. However, his services should be reserved for the deepest formats.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles posts 10 touches

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 20:42:59 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles rushed nine times for 46 yards and he added a catch for six yards on his only target in Week 2 against the Cowboys.

Fantasy Tip: Cowboys has looked good when spelling C.J. Anderson through the first two games. He appears to be back to 100 percent health, and he still looks to have a little left in the tank. However, it's uncertain if his role will change once Devontae Booker is ready to return, so tread lightly.

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (wrist) was limited in practice for a third straight day Friday, Sept. 15, but has been ruled out for Week 2. DE Jared Crick (back), CB Brendan Langley (knee) and QB Paxton Lynch (shoulder) did not participate in practice Friday and have also been ruled out. Broncos | Jamaal Charles back on the field

Thu, 14 Sep 2017 15:20:14 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (non-injury) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Charles should serve as the No. 2 running back again against the Dallas Cowboys. He probably will see around the same amount of touches has he did in Week 1, but owners should be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles held out of practice

Wed, 13 Sep 2017 14:36:18 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (non-injury) was held out of practice Wednesday, Sept. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Charles debuted with 10 rushes for 40 yards on Monday night against the Chargers, but he also lost a fumble. He was seeing more touches than expected with Devontae Booker (wrist). Once Booker can return it will be a crowded backfield and Charles will be fighting for crumbs.

Broncos | Mixed results for Jamaal Charles

Tue, 12 Sep 2017 03:52:20 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles finished with 10 carries and 40 yards Monday, Sept. 11, in a 24-21 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Fantasy Tip: Not only were his yards down, Charles committed a costly turnover with a fumble that aided the Chargers in their comeback drive. Prior to the game, the coaching staff said Charles might be limited to 10 touches or less, which is the staff's way of working him into action. Charles didn't do anything wrong to jeopardize his No. 2 status, but a healthy C.J. Anderson will keep him from doing much else.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles to see no more than 10 touches?

Mon, 11 Sep 2017 11:40:35 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles "may be limited to 10 touches or so" in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers as the team continues to ease him in to action after playing so little in each of the previous two seasons, in the opinion of Mike Klis of 9News.

Fantasy Tip: Charles went from a potential preseason release candidate to perhaps sharing backfield work with C.J. Anderson with a fine showing in the Broncos' dress rehearsal a couple of weeks ago. The former Kansas City Chief will be hard-pressed to become a fantasy asset on only 10 touches, but his role will most likely grow if he is able to come away from Monday's action without any issues. With that said, his upside will be capped as long as Anderson is healthy.

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 07:24:17 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Paxton Lynch (shoulder) and RB Devontae Booker (wrist) did not participate in practice Saturday, Sept. 9, and have been ruled out for Week 1. DT Kyle Peko (foot) was limited during practice and is listed as questionable. RB Jamaal Charles (knee), WR Demaryius Thomas (hamstring), P Riley Dixon (hip), DE Adam Gotsis (shoulder), C Matt Paradis (elbow), CB Aqib Talib (Achilles') and DE Derek Wolfe (ankle) fully participated in practice and are not on the injury report.

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 07:16:39 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (knee) fully participated in practice Saturday, Sept. 9, and is not on the injury report for Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Charles should be the No. 2 running back for the Broncos against the Los Angeles Chargers and probably will receive limited touches during the game. Owners should be able to find better options for their lineups.

RB Jamaal Charles (non-injury) and CB Aqib Talib (non-injury) were able to practice in full, as did P Riley Dixon (hip), C Matt Paradis (elbow), WR Demaryius Thomas (hamstring) and DE Derek Wolfe (ankle). Broncos | No practice for Jamaal Charles

Thu, 07 Sep 2017 16:55:27 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Charles may only be receiving a day off, but owners should check on his status later in the week. He likely will serve as the backup running back if he plays and would receive limited playing time. Owners in most leagues probably can find better options to use and can avoid Charles.

Broncos | No practice for Jamaal Charles

Thu, 07 Sep 2017 12:05:20 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (rest) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 7.

Fantasy Tip: This was likely nothing more than a day off for the veteran. He should be good to go on Monday night and will see playing time behind C.J. Anderson. Don't start him right away, though. Only an injury to Anderson would give Charles real fantasy significance.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles makes team

Sun, 27 Aug 2017 07:09:10 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles has made the team's 53-man roster, according to head coach Vance Joseph.

Fantasy Tip: Charles should serve as the backup to C.J. Anderson this year and warrants consideration as a late-round flier in PPR formats.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles shows some life

Sat, 26 Aug 2017 22:01:16 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles rushed four times for 27 yards and caught two passes for 15 yards in a 20-17 preseason win over the Green Bay Packers Saturday, Aug. 26.

Fantasy Tip: If Charles' knees can hold up, he could play his way into the backup role behind C.J. Anderson. He has some appeal as a late-round lottery ticket.

Mon, 21 Aug 2017 13:34:03 -0700

Broncos | Jamaal Charles will play plenty

Mon, 21 Aug 2017 13:00:33 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will see a lot of playing time in Week 3 of the preseason, according to head coach Vance Joseph.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has some catching up to do. He hasn't seen meaningful action since mid-October of last season. He'll likely be playing behind at least C.J. Anderson, De'Angelo Henderson and Devontae Booker this season, too. Charles is no more than a late-round PPR flier at this point in his career.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles won't play Saturday

Tue, 15 Aug 2017 11:08:12 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will not play Saturday, Aug. 19, against the San Francisco 49ers, according to head coach Vance Joseph. He will play in Week 3 of the preseason, however.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos are taking it easy with their new, fragile toy. They don't want more injury at the position, especially since Devontae Booker is already hurting. If Charles is healthy, he's still no more than a PPR flier.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles may be scratch against 49ers

Mon, 14 Aug 2017 04:26:20 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (knee) may not play in the second exhibition game Saturday, Aug. 19, against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Ordinarily this would not be a big deal, as many of the regular players do not take part in one or more of the exhibitions. However, with Charles returning from knee issues, he needs to show Denver he is capable of some workload. Continue to monitor the situation but keep his draft status downgraded, at least RB4.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles to be more involved

Mon, 31 Jul 2017 19:03:13 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will receive more work during practice Wednesday, Aug. 2, according to head coach Vance Joseph. Charles has been limited to individual work since camp began but is expected to participate in seven-on-seven drills this week and may participate in team drills next week.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos have been taking things slow with Charles so far, but he should see his work increase as camp goes on. He is expected to receive eight to 10 touches per game this season and will be part of a committee at the position. Charles probably will be a late-round pick in most drafts as a No. 4 or No. 4 running back.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles pegged for light work

Mon, 31 Jul 2017 05:49:49 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles is expected to receive eight to 10 touches per game this season if he makes the team. Charles said he has zero knee pain for now.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to believe how far he has fallen in the fantasy spectrum so quickly, but he's little more than an RB5 right now.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles not practicing

Thu, 27 Jul 2017 19:06:15 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles did not practice with the rest of the team Thursday, July 27.

Fantasy Tip: Charles will be eased in as he returns from another knee injury, and he will need his body to hold up and a little bit of luck to carve out a meaningful role in the offense. He is a late-round lottery ticket.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles cleared for full participation

Wed, 26 Jul 2017 10:53:34 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles will be eased in slowly, but he has been cleared to participate fully in training camp, according to the Denver Post's Nicki Jhabvala.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is slated for situational work if his knees hold up, but there is very little that is for certain in Denver's backfield at the moment. C.J. Anderson figures to start, but Devantae Booker and Charles will mix in and could take over at any time during the course of the game if one of them gets "hot." For now, Charles should be drafted late as a RB5 with some upside.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles cutting, doing everything

Thu, 29 Jun 2017 05:11:19 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (knee) said he has been cutting and doing everything on his surgically repaired left knee, and he finally feels normal. "I feel like the way I am cutting that I am back to the normal me, man. It feels good to be moving around again," said Charles, who was limited to eight games the past two seasons because of knee injuries. "I have (known) this the whole offseason (that the knee was fine). Nobody can take nothing away from me except God when my time is up. I am still 30 years old. I still have a lot of special stuff to do."

Fantasy Tip: Charles won't be asked to do a whole lot unless something happens to C.J. Anderson, which could peg him for a third-down role. Charles is, at best, a RB4 in fantasy until further notice.

Broncos | No team drills for Jamaal Charles

Tue, 13 Jun 2017 11:33:11 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will not participate in team drills during the Broncos' three-day minicamp. He will do some work with his helmet on, however.

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos will be careful with their fragile veteran running back this offseason. Don't be surprised to see him limited in the preseason, too, after two consecutive serious knee injuries. Charles still has more value in PPR formats, but he's a high risk, medium reward player.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles takes part in drills

Mon, 05 Jun 2017 15:43:31 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (knee) participated in some light drills with the running backs during organized team activities Monday, June 5.

Fantasy Tip: Charles will not be the starting running back but will have a role in the offense if he is healthy. He probably will be used as a receiver out of the backfield and could also receive some carries. He probably should be considered a late-round pick in fantasy leagues but will have more value in point-per-reception leagues.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles ready by training camp?

Tue, 23 May 2017 13:34:57 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles (knee) hopes to be ready for action by training camp, according to head coach Vance Joseph. Charles will rehabilitate and get back to good health during organized team activities.

Fantasy Tip: Charles will be part of a committee in Denver, primarily with C.J. Anderson, and should be on the field mostly in passing situations and on third downs. Health is a huge risk in Charles' case and he can't be drafted as more than a flex in PPR formats.

Broncos | Denver plans on using RB committee in '17

Mon, 22 May 2017 21:36:51 -0700

Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph is planning on using a running-back-by-committee system in the upcoming season. "You need two or three guys that can carry the load," Joseph said. "It is no longer a one-guy position. I'm excited to have Jamaal (Charles), C.J. (Anderson), (Devontae Booker), even De'Angelo (Henderson) in the mix there. It's a good group. It's going to be competitive, and that's the way it should be."

Fantasy Tip: Anderson figures to lead the way throughout the campaign, but it looks like he may not get as much work as his fantasy owners will desire, especially since he's coming back from a significant injury. With Charles and Booker also in town, it looks like this will be a tricky situation to deal with in 2017.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles not a lock for roster

Thu, 18 May 2017 18:09:44 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles has a 50 percent chance to make the 53-man roster, according to beat writer Mike Klis.

Fantasy Tip: If Charles can prove he is healthy during camp, he should land a spot in the running back rotation. Even in that scenario, he is only worth taking a chance on in the later rounds.

Broncos | Open competition at RB in Denver

Fri, 12 May 2017 12:14:40 -0700

Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph told reporters Friday, May 12, there will be competition for the starting running back job in training camp, presumably between C.J. Anderson, Jamaal Charles and Devontae Booker.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph may actually be leaning toward a committee approach based on his comments Friday. Assuming Charles is anywhere close to his former self, he should be considered the leader, although his recent injury woes makes him a poor bet to hold up all season. Anderson is most likely going to be the most valuable player in this bunch in 2017, but he has yet to prove he can handle a heavy workload for a full season. As a result, none of these backs may be worth anything more than flex consideration in 2017.

Broncos | One-year deal for Jamaal Charles

Tue, 02 May 2017 14:30:27 -0700

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles' deal is one year in length and worth up to $3.75 million, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has a one-year prove-it deal with Denver to see if his knees can hold up. At 30 years old and with multiple knee surgeries, the safe route to take is drafting Charles as and RB3 or flex in PPR leagues.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles joining Broncos

Tue, 02 May 2017 14:26:48 -0700

Free-agent RB Jamaal Charles (Chiefs) will sign with the Denver Broncos after agreeing to terms Tuesday, May 2, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: A healthy Jamaal Charles significantly diminishes the fantasy value of C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker, but more so Booker. The key word in that sentence is "healthy." Charles has missed close to two full seasons consecutively due to multiple knee surgeries. Anderson should serve as Denver's two-down back and is still worth a look as an RB2. Charles will have a change-of-pace role and makes Booker ostensibly undraftable as long as he can stay on the field.

Broncos | Denver may sign Jamaal Charles

Tue, 02 May 2017 11:27:25 -0700

Former Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) is visiting the Denver Broncos Tuesday, May 2. If Charles passes his physical, the expectation is that the Broncos will sign him, according to The Denver Post's Troy Renck.

Fantasy Tip: Charles epitomizes a high-risk, high-reward player at this point in his career. He might even be a high-risk, medium-reward player. The oft-injured running back has only played in eight games the last two seasons and has undergone multiple knee surgeries. It's an exciting move and a good fit if the Broncos sign him, but don't let the excitement force an overdraft. He's no more than an RB3 or flex option with more value in PPR leagues.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles will visit Broncos

Mon, 01 May 2017 12:01:34 -0700

Free-agent RB Jamaal Charles (Chiefs) is scheduled to visit the Denver Broncos Tuesday, May 2.

Fantasy Tip: C.J. Anderson will lead Denver's backfield, but Charles could serve as the third-down back in a change-of-pace role alongside Devontae Booker. Unfortunately for Charles, he's 30 years old and has missed 23 games the last two seasons due to serious injuries and multiple knee surgeries. He's merely a late-round flier at this point in his career. The risk is just too great.

Seahawks | Jamaal Charles leaves Seattle with no deal

Thu, 16 Mar 2017 17:25:43 -0700

Free-agent RB Jamaal Charles (Chiefs) "had a good visit" with the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, March 16, but ultimately left without signing a contract. Charles also may be visiting another team next week, though the identity of that franchise isn't known.

Fantasy Tip: The Seahawks just signed Eddie Lacy, and considering they also have Thomas Rawls and C.J. Prosise on the roster, there just doesn't seem to be a fit here now. Charles was one of the league's top running backs when healthy, but over the past two seasons, he's managed to suit up in only eight games combined. His next destination will determine how much fantasy value he has entering his age-30 season.

Seahawks | Jamaal Charles will meet with Seattle Wednesday

Mon, 13 Mar 2017 14:37:35 -0700

Free-agent RB Jamaal Charles (Chiefs) will visit the Seattle Seahawks Wednesday, March 15, and Thursday, March 16, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is what many would consider washed up at this point in his career. His extensive injury history has caught up to him as he has only played in eight games over the last two seasons. Even if he signed with the Seahawks, he would be splitting snaps with Thomas Rawls and C.J. Prosise. At 30 years old, Charles is too big of a risk to be drafted as more than an RB4.

Seahawks | Jamaal Charles to meet with Seattle

Sun, 12 Mar 2017 16:12:37 -0700

Free-agent RB Jamaal Charles (Chiefs) is scheduled to meet with the Seattle Seahawks in the near future.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has not received a lot of interest this offseason, but the Seahawks have been checking in on several running backs. He probably would not be the starting running back if he joined Seattle but probably should have a solid role. Charles could be a No. 3 or No. 4 running back in fantasy leagues depending in his role.

Seahawks | Jamaal Charles has mutual interest in SEA

Thu, 09 Mar 2017 05:27:26 -0800

Free-agent RB Jamaal Charles (Chiefs) has mutual interest in the Seattle Seahawks, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Charles has missed a large part of the last two years, and there are questions what is left in the tank now that he's north of 30. It's worth noting that he has only played 16 games three times in nine seasons, and he's probably an RB3 at this point.

NFL | Jamaal Charles not attracting much interest

Sun, 05 Mar 2017 10:03:55 -0800

Free-agent RB Jamaal Charles (Chiefs) is finding a cool market for his services at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is available to sign immediately after the Kansas City Chiefs cut him last week, but he may be waiting a while before finding his new employer. The 30-year-old makes sense as a short-term answer for the Philadelphia Eagles, but he will have to prove his knees are healthy first. While Charles could conceivably start in Philly, his days as a regular fantasy starter are almost certainly over.

Eagles | Philly to consider Jamaal Charles

Wed, 01 Mar 2017 18:19:07 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson suggested Wednesday, March 1, he will look into whether or not free-agent RB Jamaal Charles (Chiefs) is a fit in Philadelphia. Pederson served as Charles' offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2013-15.

Fantasy Tip: Assuming Charles is cleared medically in the near future, this marriage makes a ton of sense because of Philadelphia's need for a lead runner, Charles' familiarity with Peterson and the fact he should come fairly cheap (given his recent injury history), which is a necessity for the cap-strapped Eagles. Charles is going to be hard to trust in fantasy as anything more than a risky flex regardless of where he winds up, but he could salvage some value if he can stay healthy in Philly.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles failed physical

Tue, 28 Feb 2017 18:03:11 -0800

Updating a previous story, Free-agent RB Jamaal Charles (Chiefs) was released Tuesday, Feb. 28, with a "failed physical" designation.

Fantasy Tip: NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported earlier in the day Charles is "healthy", but it appears the 30-year-old's may need a bit more time to fully recover from the knee injuries that have ruined the better part of his last two seasons. He should find a new job quickly once he is medically cleared, but his days as a trusted feature back are probably over.

Chiefs | Jamaal Charles released

Tue, 28 Feb 2017 12:13:28 -0800

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles was released Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs could afford to make this move considering Charles' age, injury history and the players behind him. Spencer Ware will be the main man in the Chiefs' backfield going forward, with Charcandrick West playing a complementary role. Ware proved himself worthy of starting status last year in Charles' absence and should be drafted as a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2.

Chiefs | KC set to release Jamaal Charles

Tue, 28 Feb 2017 11:16:11 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles is expected to be released by the team Tuesday, Feb. 28, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: The move will clear $6.2 million in salary cap space and makes it much more palatable for the Chiefs to fit Eric Berry's new large contract onto the team payroll. Charles is one of the top running backs of his generation, but he has only 83 carries since the end of the 2014 season. His 2016 season was a complete wash as he battled injuries to both knees. The 30-year-old should find a job on the open market, but he'll probably be paid like a backup and his days as a fantasy superstar are likely over.

Eagles | Jamaal Charles an option for Eagles?

Sat, 25 Feb 2017 11:42:34 -0800

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles could be an option for the Philadelphia Eagles if he is released by the Chiefs, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Tim McManus. The Eagles will be looking to add at running back this offseason and Charles has worked with head coach Doug Pederson when Pederson was the offensive coordinator of the Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is expected to be available in free agency and may not be able to find a starting job because of his recent injury history. He would be part of a committee if he signed with the Eagles but likely would have a solid role in the offense. He will be a risky option for owners but could be a No. 3 fantasy running back depending on his role.
