Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said if you try to force picking a quarterback at a certain point in a draft, you can make a mistake. "In today's day and age, if you can't get Peyton Manning or Matt Ryan, and they might not be available for the next 10 or 15 years, then you have to adapt and build the roster and do what's best for the organization," Caldwell said. "And if a quarterback presents itself later in the draft, you take and develop him. Having a franchise guy makes the world a lot easier, though. It can erase a lot of mistakes you make. But if you force it, you can screw it up. I don't know if we're going to find that guy, but I hope we do."

Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith praised the poise of QB Matt Ryan in Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills. He was sacked a season-high six times, and Ryan was hit nine times, but he was still able to make big plays when it counted. He finished with 311 passing yards and one touchdown. "I thought Matt did a nice job," Smith said Monday, Dec. 2. "He was under some pressure. There were a couple of no-hitters. When I say no-hitters, there were basically unblocked guys that came. We had an identification on one. We had a mental error on another." Ryan has been sacked a career-high 30 times this season. His previous high was 28 in 16 games last season.

Oakland Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor has posted a passer rating of 97.6, which ranks behind only Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo, San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan. His completion percentage of 68.3 trails only Manning, Rivers, Romo, Brees and Ryan, and he has a 72.7 completion percentage in the pocket, which is fourth-best in the NFL. "His mechanics have really improved," head coach Dennis Allen said Wednesday, Oct. 9. "He's got a good presence in the pocket, yet can get out and make plays. He's always been a great athlete, but he's getting better as a quarterback."
Fantasy Tip: Pryor has emerged as a low-end No. 1 fantasy option in most leagues of 12 or more teams. He has surprised more than any other fantasy quarterback to this point, as far as success. There are plenty who have surprised by being disappointing.

New Orleans Saints DL Brodrick Bunkley (leg) and Tyrunn Walker (leg) left New Orleans' regular-season opener Sunday, Sept. 8, against the Atlanta Falcons with leg injuries. Team officials listed both as questionable to return at the time. Bunkley injured his right leg when he appeared to be tangled up on a short running play. Shortly before the half ended, Walker got caught in a pile and appeared to hurt his left knee as teammate Junior Galette sacked Falcons QB Matt Ryan.
Fantasy Tip: In leagues with individual defensive players, you may want to consider Akiem Hicks, Tom Johnson or John Jenkins in that order. These three figure to benefit if these injuries cost Bunkley or Walker a chunk of playing time.

Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez said he believes the team can have a perfect offense after adding RB Steven Jackson this offseason. "Obviously, we're led by [QB Matt Ryan]," Gonzalez said. "With him pulling the trigger, with [WR Roddy White], [WR Julio Jones], myself, we're going to try and soften up that defense a lot where they got to stand back and play off us a little bit. That is going to make big holes for a guy like Steven Jackson, and we should hopefully go out there and be the perfect offense."
