Falcons | Matt Ryan likes new offense

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 09:42:13 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan said he likes the offense that offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan has brought to the team because it is a balanced offense. "Balance on offense is huge," Ryan said. "I think with the run scheme that Kyle brings in, that's going to help us improve in the run game. Certainly, when you get the running game going, that helps the quarterback and that helps the passing game. I'm all for it."

Fantasy Tip: Ryan is coming off a solid season with 4,694 passing yards and 28 touchdowns, but those stats could drop with the new offense. Ryan still has a lot of weapons to work with at receiver and could be a No. 1 quarterback in many fantasy leagues.

Falcons | Matt Ryan moving out of pocket more

Fri, 29 May 2015 21:44:52 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan will move outside the pocket more this season in offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's system.

Fantasy Tip: While he is not an elite fantasy player at the quarterback position, Ryan has proven to be a safe, lower-end QB1. With a speedy weapon like Julio Jones to work with, moving outside the pocket more often could open up some big-play opportunities for Ryan and the offense.

Falcons | Matt Ryan added to Pro Bowl

Mon, 19 Jan 2015 18:07:41 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan has been named to the 2015 Pro Bowl as a replacement for New England Patriots QB Tom Brady.

Fantasy Tip: Although the Falcons struggled as a team this year, Ryan finished with 4,694 yards and 28 touchdowns. He has proven he can be counted on for around 4,500 yards and 25-plus scores, making him a solid quarterback option in seasonal leagues.

Falcons | Julio Jones has big day in win

Mon, 01 Dec 2014 09:24:31 -0800

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones had the better of Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson in the team's Week 13 win, and he had 10 catches for a career-high 189 yards and a touchdown. QB Matt Ryan was 30-for-41 for 361 yards and two touchdowns in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Jones likely carried many FantasyScore lineups to victories this weekend, and the absence of Roddy White likely helped Jones' cause. With a Monday night tilt against Green Bay coming next, Jones could have another fine day, especially if Atlanta falls behind early and is forced to pass. The Packers have allowed wideouts an average of 28.80 fantasy points in the last four weeks.

Falcons | Matt Ryan heavily pressured

Mon, 20 Oct 2014 14:20:12 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan was sacked five times as the team's offensive line continues to struggle with injuries and poor play. "We had way too much pressure," head coach Mike Smith said. "Our quarterback was hit and sacked way too much. There were times where we really didn't have a chance to get the play off, and that's very difficult for a quarterback, and we have to do better with our protection."

Fantasy Tip: Ryan's offensive line lost another key piece with Peter Konz (knee) out for the season. A patchwork O-line doesn't bode well for Ryan for the rest of the season, and you should definitely look to avoid him in Week 8 against the Detroit Lions.

Falcons | Roddy White: Goal 30 points per game

Fri, 12 Sep 2014 09:57:51 -0700

Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White said the team's goal coming into the year was to put up 30 points per game. Since 2004, 12 teams have averaged 30 or more points per game, and those teams combined for a record of 155-37. Only one of those teams, the 2004 Kansas City Chiefs, failed to make the playoffs. The Falcons' highest average with QB Matt Ryan was 26.2 in 2002, when they finished 13-3.

Fantasy Tip: The Falcons could find it hard to top 30 points against a nasty Cincinnati Bengals defense in Week 2, especially without tackle Jake Matthews. Temper your expectations a bit for Ryan and company after they put up points in bunches against the New Orleans Saints.

Falcons | Matt Ryan sets team record

Sun, 07 Sep 2014 17:55:39 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan threw for a team record 448 yards and three touchdowns in the Week 1 overtime win against the New Orleans Saints Sunday, Sept. 7. He also eclipsed the team record for career touchdown passes (156), surpassing Steve Bartkowski (154).

Fantasy Tip: Matty Ice put a smile on the face of his FantasyScore owners in Week 1, as he wasn't close to the most expensive option, but he certainly was the most productive. However, going forward his salary might rise substantially, so he might not be as good of a value.

Falcons | Matt Ryan wears brace

Mon, 04 Aug 2014 12:42:08 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (knee) was wearing a brace on his left knee Monday, Aug. 4.

Fantasy Tip: The brace is probably just a precautionary measure. Ryan is a QB1 as long as he's healthy.

Falcons | Jake Matthews selected sixth overall

Thu, 08 May 2014 17:43:54 -0700

The Atlanta Falcons selected Texas A&M OT Jake Matthews with the sixth overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Protection for Matt Ryan: He was already a fine rebound candidate with Julio Jones (foot) on track to return, so now that the QB will have more time to throw, fantasy owners should bump him up.

Falcons | Mike Smith wants bigger, strong lines

Tue, 22 Apr 2014 19:42:50 -0700

Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith is calling for major improvement on both sides of the line of scrimmage. He fears the team could bottom out for a second straight year if they do not change for the better. "I feel like we've lost our way," Smith said Tuesday, April 22. "I feel like I've lost my way a little. The emphasis along the way is to be a bigger and stronger football team and win the line of scrimmage."

Smith said the team was hurt last season by a lack of strength and size up front. They ranked last in rushing, and QB Matt Ryan was sacked a career-high 44 times.

Fantasy Tip: If the team is able to shore up the offensive line, Ryan might re-emerge as a top fantasy option after a trying season. While he loses Tony Gonzalez as a reliable target, he is expected to have healthy targets in Julio Jones and Roddy White. As long as that dynamic duo is healthy, and the protective is improved, Ryan is a Top 10 fantasy option.
