Wed, 08 Feb 2017 16:08:03 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan threw for 2,581 yards, 19 touchdowns and four interceptions at home this season while throwing for 2,363 yards, 19 touchdowns and three interceptions on the road.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan was one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL this season and should have most of his weapons back next season. He should be considered a No. 1 quarterback in all fantasy leagues in 2017.

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan completed 17 of his 23 passes for 284 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-28 loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI Sunday, Feb. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan's solid performance will be forgotten thanks to Atlanta's epic meltdown. Despite the loss, Ryan should still be drafted as a QB1 next year.

Ravens | Baltimore nearly traded up for Matt Ryan

Sun, 05 Feb 2017 16:38:15 -0800

The Baltimore Ravens nearly had a deal in place to trade up for the No. 2 pick in the 2008 NFL Draft in order to select Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan, according to sources, but the deal fell through when Baltimore wouldn't include its 2009 second-round pick.

Fantasy Tip: It's impossible to know how Ryan's career would have turned out had he landed in Baltimore, and the only thing that matters now is that Ryan is at the helm of one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL. He looks like a QB1 for the foreseeable future.

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman and RB Tevin Coleman complement each other well and are both "three-down backs," according to QB Matt Ryan.

Falcons | Matt Ryan winless vs. Patriots in career

Tue, 31 Jan 2017 20:08:17 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan is 0-2 in his career against the New England Patriots. His last meeting opposing them came back in Week 4 of the 2013 season, when the Falcons were defeated, 30-23.

Fantasy Tip: Of course, it's a small sample size, but it's worth noting that the Patriots are just one of two teams (Pittsburgh Steelers) Ryan has not defeated since entering the league in 2008. Even so, for what it's worth, he's put up solid numbers versus the Pats in those two games, totaling 620 yards and completing 62.2 percent (51-of-82) of his passes. Odds are he'll post similar numbers in what figures to be a high-scoring Super Bowl 51.

Falcons | Matt Ryan already elite in postseason

Tue, 31 Jan 2017 16:37:33 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan is the only quarterback in playoff history to throw for at least three touchdowns in four straight playoff games.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan is proving that his MVP-worthy regular season was not a fluke. He has led the NFL's most prolific offense into the Super Bowl and has also led fantasy owners to view him as a QB1 for next season. He finished as the QB3 behind Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees.

Falcons | Matt Ryan trending towards Super Bowl win

Tue, 24 Jan 2017 21:17:30 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan has thrown for seven touchdowns and zero interceptions this postseason. The last six quarterbacks to register that many touchdown passes without recording an interception in the playoffs -- Joe Flacco (2012), Drew Brees (2009), Steve Young (1994), Troy Aikman (1992), Joe Montana (1989) and Phil Simms (1986) -- would all go on to win the Super Bowl that season.

Fantasy Tip: It makes sense, as quarterbacks that are having a dominant playoff run typically keep it going in the big game, especially when there's no weather variable to be concerned with. Then again, this could just be a coincidental trend where the law of averages might get involved and go the other way. Either way, Ryan is a solid bet to finish off his MVP-type season with a bang, and at the very least, there should be plenty of offense when the Patriots and Falcons hook up in a little less than two weeks.

Falcons | Matt Ryan the best without pressure

Mon, 23 Jan 2017 14:34:14 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan's passer rating is 131.1 when he's in a clean pocket. That's the best rating in the NFL by more than 10 points.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan is well deserving of the MVP award after his career year in which he threw for nearly 5,000 yards. He and the Falcons were one of the most potent offenses in the league this season and Ryan cemented himself as a low-end QB1 consideration for 2017 fantasy drafts.

Falcons | Matt Ryan dominant in win

Sun, 22 Jan 2017 15:33:33 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan completed 27-for-38 passing for 392 yards and four touchdown passes in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 22, against the Green Bay Packers. He did not throw an interception, and Ryan added a rushing score. His 392 yards rank second all-time in an NFL conference game, behind Ryan's 2012 performance of 396 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan has vaulted himself into the upper-echelon QB1 conversation for 2017 drafters, but it appears as though he will need to learn a new offense if coordinator Kyle Shanahan indeed takes the San Francisco 49ers' head coach position.

Falcons | Atlanta could extend Matt Ryan's deal

Sun, 22 Jan 2017 06:34:37 -0800

The Atlanta Falcons are expected to discuss a contract extension with QB Matt Ryan during the offseason, even though he still has two years remaining on his current contract, according to multiple sources. A potential extension could make him the highest-paid player in the league, surpassing Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck's deal.

Fantasy Tip: The 31-year-old Ryan posted career highs in passing yards (4,944) and touchdowns (38) during the 2016 season, while throwing just seven interceptions in 534 attempts. He is one of the leading candidates for the NFL MVP award and should be viewed as an elite option in all fantasy formats.

Falcons | Matt Ryan on hot streak

Tue, 17 Jan 2017 16:21:28 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan has six consecutive seasons of at least 4,000 passing yards. That's tied for the second longest streak in NFL history. He posted a franchise record 4,944 yards in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan is a big reason why the Falcons are in the NFC title game. He's a top MVP candidate coming off a career season. Regression should be expected next season after such a marvelous campaign, but Ryan is still a QB1 consideration.

Falcons | Matt Ryan torches Seahawks

Sat, 14 Jan 2017 16:50:20 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan went 26-of-37 for 338 yards and three touchdowns in a NFC Divisional Round win over the Seattle Seahawks.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan took three sacks but was in total control of the Falcons' up-tempo attack otherwise, connecting with Julio Jones, Tevin Coleman and Mohamed Sanu for scores. He did nothing to hurt his argument for NFL MVP, while offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan was brilliant once again in getting the matchups he wanted. Ryan should have another field day next week if Julio Jones can play, as neither the Dallas Cowboys nor the Green Bay Packers have enough on defense to hold this passing game in check.

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan completed 27 of his 36 pass attempts for 331 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 17 game against the New Orleans Saints. He also ran twice for two yards. He set a franchise record with his 4,944 yards in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan also added 38 touchdowns and seven interceptions, leading Atlanta to a first-round bye in the NFC playoffs. More importantly, he was a stud for fantasy owners who waited on draft day to take him in the middle to late rounds. He will also be a must-have option for those playing fantasy postseason pools.

Falcons | Matt Ryan throws for two scores

Sat, 24 Dec 2016 15:43:17 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan completed 27 of his 33 pass attempts for 277 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 16 game against the Carolina Panthers. He rushed twice for nine yards, too. Ryan broke his own franchise mark by reaching 33 touchdown passes on the season, and he also set an NFL single-season record by hitting 13 different receivers with a touchdown pass.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan has had a nice bounce back season for fantasy owners who waited until the late rounds to draft him, throwing for two or more touchdowns in each of his past three and 11 of his 15 games overall.

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan was 18-for-28 for 237 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions Sunday, Dec. 11, against the Los Angeles Rams.

Fantasy Tip: He didn't even need Julio Jones (toe) to put up 42 points on the Rams. Ryan remains an elite option in fantasy.

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan went 22-for-34 for 297 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13. He also rushed for 23 yards on three carries during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan has thrown for at least 250 yards in all but one game this season and has 11 touchdowns passes in his last five games. He is scheduled to face the Los Angeles Rams in his next game and can be a No. 1 quarterback in leagues.

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan went 26-for-34 for 269 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 12. He also rushed for 15 yards on four carries during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan continues to be one of the top quarterbacks in fantasy leagues and has 10 touchdowns in his last four games. He will be facing a tough Kansas City Chiefs defense next week but should still be a starting option in all leagues.

Falcons | Matt Ryan quiet in road loss

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 18:30:01 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan completed 18 of his 33 pass attempts for 267 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 10 road loss against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan was bothered all day by the Eagles pass rush and this game marked just the third time in 10 starts where he was held to one passing score. Fantasy owners will need to find a replacement in Week 11, as the Falcons have a bye.

Falcons | Matt Ryan tosses four touchdowns

Thu, 03 Nov 2016 22:02:52 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan completed 25 of his 34 pass attempts for 344 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 9 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, Nov. 3. He also ran twice for no gain.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan has an improved offensive line to give him time to his receivers and it is making a huge difference. As long as Julio Jones remains healthy, Ryan is a solid low-end QB1 in most fantasy formats. The Falcons face the Philadelphia Eagles on the road in Week 10.

Falcons | Matt Ryan tosses three TDs

Sun, 30 Oct 2016 21:46:44 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan completed 28 of his 35 pass attempts for 288 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 8 game against the Green Bay Packers. He also ran twice for nine yards.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan continues to be very effective for fantasy owners, throwing at least one touchdown in each of his eight games, and two or more scores in six of his outings. The Falcons face the Buccaneers in Thursday's Week 9 game, and it's a very favorable matchup against a pass defense which was torched for 513 yards and four touchdowns against Oakland.

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 22:54:35 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan completed 22 of his 34 pass attempts for 273 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 7 game against the San Diego Chargers. He also ran three times for eight yards.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan has at least one touchdown strike in each of his seven games, throwing for 16 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He remains a solid low-end QB1 heading into Week 8 against Green Bay's beat up secondary.

Falcons | Matt Ryan has strong third quarter

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan wound up 27-for-42 for 335 yards and three touchdowns in a 26-24 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Ryan threw all three TDs in the third quarter, when he was 13-for-17 for 220 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Games like this cement Ryan's reputation as one of the better quarterbacks in football. Ryan faded slightly from view last year but appears to be back with a vengeance. He deserves to be a solid QB1 in all fantasy leagues.

Falcons | Matt Ryan takes big step back

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 20:25:15 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan completed 15 of his 28 pass attempts for 267 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the Week 5 game against the Denver Broncos. He also ran three times for three yards.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan took a giant step back after his 500-plus-yard performance last weekend, which obviously was going to happen against a good Denver defense. He will face another quality pass defense in Seattle in Week 6. Still, Ryan remains a quality low-end QB1 despite the difficult matchup.

Sun, 02 Oct 2016 14:19:13 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan went 28-for-37 for 503 yards, four touchdowns and one interception against the Carolina Panthers in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan has been one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL over the first four weeks of the season with 11 touchdowns and 1,473 yards during that span. Ryan should be a starting option in all fantasy leagues while he is on this hot streak.

Tue, 27 Sep 2016 07:41:57 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (thumb) said his injured left thumb is fine, and he put a glove on the hand in Week 3 to ensure his grip on the ball.

Fantasy Tip: The Falcons have the Carolina Panthers in Week 4, which will present a difficult matchup for Ryan. He'll be a midrange QB1 in fantasy.

Mon, 26 Sep 2016 21:21:20 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (thumb) completed 20 of his 30 pass attempts for 240 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 3 game against the New Orleans Saints Monday, Sept. 26. He injured his thumb late in the fourth quarter and had the thumb taped while being fitted with a glove.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan has two 300-yard games under his belt this season, although he missed the mark Monday, and he has two or more touchdown passes in each of his three outings. He has re-emerged as a decent low-end TE1, and he had tremendous success despite Julio Jones not being his normal self Monday.

Falcons | Matty Ice busy in setback

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 20:56:37 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan completed 27 of his 39 pass attempts for 334 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan always has good rapport with Julio Jones, but he also jelled rather quickly with newcomer Mohamed Sanu and he connected with Tevin Coleman out of the backfield for several big plays as well. As long as all of his weapons remain healthy, Ryan should be a borderline QB1/2 in all formats going forward.

Falcons | Matt Ryan plays one snap

Thu, 01 Sep 2016 18:26:35 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan played one snap in the preseason finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, Sept. 1, before being replaced by QB Matt Schaub.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan finished fifth in passing yards last season, but Atlanta's inability to finish off drives resulted in his lowest touchdown total since his rookie season. He is a potential QB2 candidate, and he could still be on the board later in drafts.

Falcons | Matt Ryan worked on deep throws

Thu, 01 Sep 2016 16:32:45 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan spent six weeks training with former MLB pitcher Tom House and former college pitcher Adam Dedeaux -- who have also worked with New England Patriots QB Tom Brady, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees and Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer, to name a few with -- at the acclaimed 3DQB training facility in working to enhance his ability to throw deep. Ryan firmly believes there's a noticeable difference in his deep ball and WR Julio Jones was the first to say the quarterback's arm strength is much stronger than it was last year.

Fantasy Tip: Although Ryan finished in the top five in passing yards in 2015, he still had a disappointing season, registering his fewest touchdown passes since his rookie campaign. Many believe it had much to do with him trying to adjust to new offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, so at least Ryan now has some more familiarity with Shanahan's offense. Once one of the league's upper echelon signal-callers, Ryan could still be one of the best value picks at quarterback with a solid cast of weapons surrounding him, including arguably the game's best receiver in Jones, and a much-improved offensive line after the addition of center Alex Mack.

Falcons | Red zone interception for Matt Ryan

Thu, 25 Aug 2016 20:31:08 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan completed 12 of his 22 passes for 129 yards and threw an interception in the red zone in a 17-6 preseason loss to the Miami Dolphins Thursday, Aug. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan ranked fifth in passing yards last year, but his 21 touchdowns were his fewest since his rookie year. Converting in the red zone continues to be an issue, and while he has QB1 upside, Ryan is better served as a high-end backup.

Falcons | Matt Ryan shows improvement

Fri, 19 Aug 2016 11:00:42 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan had a much better outing in his second preseason game Thursday, August 18, versus the Cleveland Browns, after going 0-for-4 and leading two three-and-outs in the team's exhibition opener. Ryan followed that up by completing 8-of-12 passes for 78 yards over three possessions.

Fantasy Tip: In 2015, Ryan didn't live up to the higher expectations he has set for himself throughout his outstanding career, but that doesn't mean he had a bad season last year. After all, the Boston College product did finish fifth in the NFL with 4,591 passing yards, while completing 66.3% of his passes, which was good for sixth amongst league leaders. Still having Julio Jones on his side, not to mention the addition of Mohamed Sanu, Ryan still has the ability to be an upper echelon signal-caller, and could end up being one of the best values at quarterback this season.

Falcons | Matt Ryan's practice picks a non-issue

Tue, 02 Aug 2016 20:21:09 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan throwing interceptions in practice isn't a concern of head coach Dan Quinn.

"This is the time to try everything, whether is a different route or a different look," Quinn said Tuesday, Aug. 2, after Ryan threw a virtual pick-six during the team period. "It's also an important part for the defense, too, to know how they get after the ball. For us, this is what this time is all about is getting the timing down and getting the routes right. Some of that happens in our training camp practice. But for us, it's about the ball, we know that."

Fantasy Tip: Ryan's numbers slipped a bit in 2016, but the tale of the tape is pretty much on par with much of his career. He completed 66.3% of his passes for 4,591 yards and 21 touchdowns with 16 interceptions. At this point, we know what Ryan is, and that's not a top-flight fantasy quarterback. He'll be in the low-end QB1 mix.

Falcons | Mohamed Sanu bonding with QB

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 21:14:36 -0700

Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu has bonded with QB Matt Ryan, working together at Ryan's passing camp in Orlando, and throughout June minicamp. The duo built chemistry as the practices wore on. "He's got great hands," Ryan said. "One of the things I noticed right from the start is how strong his hands are. He's a really good worker. I think he can really help us."

Fantasy Tip: Sanu will step into the role vacated by veteran Roddy White. He has never posted more than 790 receiving yards in a season, but that should change in 2016. If not, he will be a huge fantasy bust since he shouldn't slip past the middle rounds in most formats on draft day.

Falcons | Matt Ryan working on feet

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 15:09:34 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan has been working on increasing his comfort level with the offense this offseason. Ryan has worked in front of a mirror to try to get his feet in the right position to be able to throw the ball the way he wants to and to improve the timing of the play. He is able to watch his feet closely this way and can make sure everything is aligned correctly before dropping back.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan definitely struggled in Kyle Shanahan's offense last season, throwing just 21 touchdowns to 16 interceptions. He did throw for over 4,500 yards, but he's still a backup fantasy quarterback heading into 2016.

Falcons | Matt Ryan still confident in offense

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 15:42:19 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan admitted Tuesday, April 19, that he took too long at times to process offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's scheme in 2015. Ryan said he is excited to have Shanahan back for another season. "As you're in a system more, you start focusing on the things that are important," Ryan said. "What you're going against defensively, what your keys are in protection, what you're looking for from a coverage standpoint."

Ryan also said that he thought all the players involved in a recent passing camp felt more comfortable with the offense, adding that he could tell early on that they were a lot further along than at certain points midway through last season.

Fantasy Tip: There was definitely a bit of a learning curve for Ryan and the Falcons last season, maybe save for Julio Jones, who can do anything in any offense. As for Ryan, he remains out of QB1 territory despite a season of Shanahan's offense under his belt.

Falcons | Matt Ryan throwing with teammates

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 14:07:46 -0700

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan is getting together with WR Julio Jones, RB Devonta Freeman and other Falcons for passing sessions this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: It sure doesn't hurt for teammates to practice together well before the season starts. There's no telling how offseason comradery and chemistry can impact players during the regular season. Freeman and Jones should already be considered No. 1 players at their respective positions, while Ryan is in backup fantasy quarterback territory.

NFL | Jared Goff draws Matt Ryan comparison

Wed, 02 Mar 2016 17:34:53 -0800

California QB Jared Goff is expected to be a top-five pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Daniel Jeremiah, a NFL Media analyst and former scout, has likened the presumptive first-round pick to Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan. "They're (both) not afraid to stare down a rush and deliver the football accurately, but also have enough athleticism and the quick feet to get outside, create and make some things happen. Competitive, smart and tough. Those are the three words we described Matt Ryan with when he came out, and I would put the same three tags on Jared Goff," Jeremiah said.

Fantasy Tip: Goff could be selected as high as No. 2 overall to the Cleveland Browns barring a shakeup in the draft order. If he does land with the Browns, he would be little more than a low-end QB2 in redraft leagues with far more upside in dynasty formats.

Falcons | Matt Ryan has 300-yard game

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 15:48:16 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan was 24 of 36 for 334 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a 20-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Jan. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan ended the year with 4,591 yards passing, and that is a pretty impressive number for yardage leagues. Take a closer look at his stats and you see a problem. He only threw 20 touchdowns and had 16 interceptions, so the overall numbers weren't too good. He's not in danger of losing his job, but Ryan will need a stronger overall performance in 2016.

Falcons | Matt Ryan probable for Week 17

Fri, 01 Jan 2016 12:12:22 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (hip) was a full participant in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as probable for the Week 17 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: After a full week of practice, look for Ryan ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) to finish the season strong against the porous New Orleans defense. Still, he shouldn't be viewed as slam-dunk start at FantasyScore. Ryan has a single touchdown or fewer in six of his past seven outings, and he topped 300 yards just twice during the span. All said, the matchup and cap hit are more attractive than Ryan's current form, which is always a warning sign.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) is one of the most promising fantasy quarterbacks this week against the lowly New Orleans Saints. Ryan has struggled this season, but he's a good, under-the-radar choice for your FantasyScore quarterback in Week 17.

Falcons | Matt Ryan looks to finish strong

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 22:47:48 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan will face a New Orleans Saints pass defense in Week 17 which has allowed 281.1 passing yards per game with an NFL-high 43 touchdowns and 59 pass plays of 20 or more yards. The Saints have also been dinged for a league-high 16 pass plays of 40 or more yards.

Fantasy Tip: Matty Ice ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) wraps up a difficult and erratic season against the Saints in an ultra-favorable matchup. Look for Ryan to finish strong at a cut-rate FantasyScore price.

Falcons | Matt Ryan takes part in practice

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 14:43:12 -0800

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (hip) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Ryan ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) should be able to play this week and will have a favorable matchup against the New Orleans Saints. He has thrown four touchdowns and five interceptions in the last five games but did surpass the 300-yard mark in Week 16. Ryan could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore to consider, but there will be other options more attractive for owners.
