Cardinals | Chris Johnson expected to play

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 16:00:02 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson (hamstring) is expected to play in the final preseason game and should receive at least 10 to 12 carries, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has missed the last two preseason games because of the injury but is on track to see playing time in the final preseason game. Johnson has a good chance to make the roster and could be part of a committee at running back. Johnson could be a late-round option in deeper leagues if he makes the roster.

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson is expected to make the 53-man roster despite not playing for his new team yet.

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 13:16:01 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 26, but head coach Bruce Arians said he hopes Johnson will be able to practice later in the week.

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 14:08:05 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson (hamstring) is considered day-to-day with a hamstring injury, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Andre Ellington and David Johnson are still expected to be higher in the Cardinals' backfield pecking order. Chris Johnson will only hold value in deeper PPR leagues, or if Ellington or David Johnson are injured a while.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson dealing with injury

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 06:15:20 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson (hamstring) did not play in the second preseason game Saturday, Aug. 22, because of a pulled hamstring that could keep him out for two weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson was expected to be part of a committee at running back but could be on the roster bubble if he is not able to play. Johnson could be a late-round option in drafts if he makes the team since he has the most experience among the running backs.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson happy with new team

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 11:17:54 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson said he likes the idea of playing with QB Carson Palmer and all of the other weapons the team has on offense. Johnson likes that the team throws to their running backs and does not have any problems splitting time with RB Andre Ellington.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson may see limited work early in the season but may earn the starting job as the season goes on. Johnson could be a late-round option in leagues or a waiver wire option during the season if he is available.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson could still start

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 12:18:56 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson hasn't been ruled out as being the starting running back over RB Andre Ellington, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson does have the track record to compete with Ellington for starting running back. If Ellington stays healthy, though, it will be hard to envision Johnson beating out Ellington for the job. Pay attention to the Cardinals' running backs as the preseason goes on.

Cardinals | New Cardinals must earn spots

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 11:20:41 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson and TE Jermaine Gresham aren't guaranteed a roster spot, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Gresham's main competition for the starting tight end job will probably be Darren Fells and Troy Niklas. Johnson will at least back up Andre Ellington, and could also back up rookie David Johnson. Of course, as Arians inferred, both must play well enough to earn their spots on the team. Until then, they are best left on waiver wires.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson's role unclear

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 11:16:21 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson's role will be determined by the rest of the preseason games, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Of course, some of Johnson's role depends on how healthy Andre Ellington and David Johnson are going into the regular season. It is more than likely that Johnson will be a change of pace back for the Cardinals. He's not worth starting unless Ellington or Johnson miss extended time.

Cardinals | More on Chris Johnson terms

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 06:38:59 -0700

Updating previous reports, Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson signed a one-year, $870,000 deal for the veteran's minimum. The deal didn't include a signing bonus. He has to make the Pro Bowl and rush for 1,300 yards to make the potential $2 million in the deal.

Fantasy Tip: CJ2K is worth a RB5 flyer in what could be his last real chance at age 30.

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 15:11:44 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals Monday, Aug. 17. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson rushed for an effective 4.3 yards per carry last season, but he had the fewest attempts and yards of his career. Both Andre Ellington and rookie David Johnson have far more upside than Johnson, but owners will need to wait for the Cardinals to update their depth chart.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson passes physical with Cards

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 13:17:45 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) has passed his physical with the Arizona Cardinals, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is expected to sign with the Cardinals after he passed his physical. Johnson will join a running back corps that are all looking to earn some playing time. Owners should monitor Johnson during the rest of the preseason to see what his role will be since he could be a late-round option in some drafts.

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 12:03:13 -0700

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) will take a physical for the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, Aug. 16.

Fantasy Tip: If Johnson passes the physical, he could very well end up signing with the Cardinals. In that case, he would at least back up Andre Ellington, and could also play behind rookie David Johnson. Stay tuned.

Cardinals | Arizona likely to add Chris Johnson

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 16:38:56 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) likely will sign with the Arizona Cardinals if he is able to pass his physical and the two sides reach an agreement.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson will compete with Andre Ellington and David Johnson for playing time during the rest of training camp and the preseason. The Cardinals may use a committee at running back, which will hurt the fantasy value of all of the running backs. Johnson could be a late-round option in leagues since he has had success in the past.

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 15:50:04 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) is scheduled to work out for the Arizona Cardinals Sunday, Aug. 16. Johnson will also undergo a physical during the visit.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson could join the Cardinals and be part of a committee at running back for the time being. Johnson could be a late-round option in deeper leagues since he has had success in the past and could earn a bigger role.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson mulling offers

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 16:32:50 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) is still mulling an offer from the Arizona Cardinals Tuesday, Aug. 11, while he's also fielding interest from other teams.

Fantasy Tip: A deal doesn't seem imminent for Johnson, even though the Cardinals' offer is on the table. Johnson could wait for a better opportunity to present itself later in the preseason.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson offered deal from Cards

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 07:16:26 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) received a one-year offer from the Arizona Cardinals Monday, Aug. 10.

Fantasy Tip: CJ2K is worth an RB5 flyer if you're drafting today. The team seems motivated to sign a running back to compete with Andre Ellington.

Cardinals | Chris Johnson drawing Cards' interest

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 06:51:08 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) is drawing interest from the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: The belief is the team's interest in CJ2K is their want for someone to compete with Andre Ellington. Ellington's stock doesn't seem to be as high with the team after they drafted David Johnson and are still looking for a back to compete with him. Johnson is worth an RB5 flyer if you're drafting right now.

Cowboys | Dallas still not interested in veterans

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 17:50:51 -0700

The Dallas Cowboys are still not interested in veteran RBs Chris Johnson and Ray Rice, following the release of RB Ryan Williams Tuesday, July 28. The Cowboys remain confident in RBs Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar.

Fantasy Tip: While Randle and McFadden are thought to have separated themselves from Dunbar, neither one has an upper hand over the other at this point. This will be one of the most closely watched position battles all preseason.

Cowboys | Dallas in contact with Chris Johnson

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 06:43:10 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) has been in contact with the Dallas Cowboys.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson wouldn't be a real good fit unless an injury happened in camp. Johnson could still be worth a final-round flyer in the right situation.

NFL | Chris Johnson ready to play again

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 13:12:17 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) said he's feeling explosive, healthy and is ready to play again.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has been linked to the Dallas Cowboys several times this offseason. He could very well draw interest from other teams, but nothing is imminent as of now. Stay tuned to Johnson's status throughout the training camp period.

NFL | Chris Johnson expects to receive interest

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 14:35:17 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) said he expects to receive interest from teams once training camp begins. Johnson said he has been working out this season in preparation for the 2015 season.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson could be an option if a team loses a running back to an injury during camp. Johnson likely will not have a lot of value if he signs with a team since he probably will be a backup. Johnson could be a waiver wire option if he finds a solid role with a team.

NFL | Chris Johnson has bulked up

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 12:44:41 -0700

Cowboys | Chris Johnson could sign with Dallas

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 12:39:24 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) might sign with the Dallas Cowboys either during training camp or the regular season, in the opinion of Jason La Canfora of cbssports.com.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson said a couple months ago that he would like to play for the Cowboys. Johnson obviously wouldn't be guaranteed to start with Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar also competing for touches. McFadden is infamous for his fragility, so Johnson could be a replacement for if/when McFadden is injured.

Cowboys | Chris Johnson wants to go to DAL

Tue, 05 May 2015 18:11:33 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson was recently stopped outside a Los Angeles restaurant by TMZ and was asked about the possibility of playing for the Dallas Cowboys. "I'd fit good in Dallas," Johnson said when asked if the Cowboys were a good option. "They need it. Yeah. That's what we're trying to do."

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how much better Johnson would be than the combination of Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar at this point in his career, but he'd certainly be the highest profile member of the backfield if he does go to Dallas. Johnson did run for 663 yards on 4.3 yards per attempt last season, and could still have something to offer the right team. With the No. 1 offensive line in football, the Cowboys could very well be that team.

NFL | Chris Johnson working out

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 16:46:56 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (shoulder) has been working out even though he was shot in the shoulder during a drive by shooting last month. Johnson has received interest from several teams.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has not signed with a team at this point and may have wait until after the draft to find a new team. Johnson likely will be a backup next season and may not be worth a drafting in leagues next season.

NFL | Chris Johnson won't face charges

Thu, 12 Mar 2015 12:31:12 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) will not face charges after being arrested on a misdemeanor weapons charge. Angela Starke, a spokeswoman for the state attorney's office in Orlando, said "the evidence was not suitable for prosecution." Johnson was also shot in the right shoulder in a separate incident during a drive-by shooting in Orlando earlier this month.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson continued to be a disappointment with the New York Jets last year sharing time with Chris Ivory in the backfield. He averaged 4.3 yards per carry on 155 attempts for 663 yards and just one touchdown. It was the first time in his career he failed to reach 1,000 yards rushing. His offseason off-the-field exploits won't endear him to many NFL teams, either. Johnson may be a late-round flier for running back depth in really deep leagues in 2015, but nothing more.

NFL | Chris Johnson released from hospital

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 11:13:36 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) was released from the hospital Monday, March 9, according to a source. Johnson was shot in the arm and is now at home resting. He did not have surgery.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Johnson will be good to go for offseason activities, although he still needs to find a team. If/when he does find that team, he will probably have no more than a complementary role and would probably be a flex option.

NFL | Chris Johnson injured in shooting

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 10:12:14 -0700

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (shoulder) was shot in the shoulder during a drive-by shooting in Orlando Sunday, March 8. Johnson was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson likely will need time to recover from his injury, so he probably will sign with a team later in the offseason. Johnson likely will not find a starting job but could find a solid backup job with a team. He could be an option in the later rounds of drafts depending on his role with his new team.

Jets | Chris Johnson expected bigger role

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 15:24:54 -0800

Free-agent RB Chris Johnson (Jets) said he expected to have a bigger role with the New York Jets this past season but saw his playing time decrease as the season went on. Johnson said he sat down with former head coach Rex Ryan to talk about his role with the team but was never given the chance to show his talent.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson likely will join a team as a backup this offseason and see limited touches next season. Johnson could be an option in the final few rounds of fantasy drafts depending on which team he joins but will not be a weekly starting option.

Jets | Chris Johnson leaving helps salary cap

Sat, 14 Feb 2015 12:06:58 -0800

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson's option not being exercised will save the team $3.5 million in salary cap space, adding to the $45-50 million they have already.

Fantasy Tip: As previously stated, a change of scenery will probably be good for Johnson, who had the worst season of his career in 2014. Although, Johnson could very well still be part of a committee approach with his next team.

Jets | Chris Johnson to hit free agency

Sat, 14 Feb 2015 11:36:41 -0800

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson's option will not be exercised, as expected. Johnson will become a free agent.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson had the worst season of his career in New York in 2014. It's hard to believe the change of scenery will be anything but good for Johnson, who ran for just 663 yards and one touchdown last season.

Jets | Chris Johnson expected to be cut soon

Sat, 14 Feb 2015 07:16:06 -0800

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson is expected to be released in the next few days, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson could join another team this offseason but likely will be a backup running back at this point and will have limited fantasy value. Chris Ivory could become the Jets' top running back and could be a low-end No. 2 running back if he wins the job.

Jets | Chris Johnson expected to be released

Fri, 16 Jan 2015 16:11:38 -0800

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson, who had just 663 rushing yards this year, is expected to be released this offseason. Johnson is due to make $4 million in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson was another big disappointment this season for those that took at chance on him as a sleeper running back. There's always hope that he can regain some steam with a new team in 2015, but the likelihood of that happening now is remote. Consider Johnson more of a bench player for fantasy football squads next season.

Fri, 26 Dec 2014 13:40:29 -0800

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) fully practiced Friday, Dec. 26, and is probable for Week 17.

Thu, 25 Dec 2014 14:20:05 -0800

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson had a season-high 105 rushing yards against the Miami Dolphins in Week 13, but still isn't a strong FantsyScore play this weekend. Johnson has only received 20 carries over the past two weeks, and he has only caught three passes in his last four games.

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has been receiving more carries over the last month and rushed for 105 yards the last time he played the Miami Dolphins. Johnson ($5,555) probably is not the best option for owners on FantasyScore since there are better options for owners to use.

Fri, 19 Dec 2014 14:28:08 -0800

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) practiced in full Friday, Dec. 19, and is probable for Week 16 against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,200) remains unimpressive at FantasyScore while being behind Chris Ivory in the backfield. Also, the matchup against the Patriots could feature plenty of passing from the Jets offense. Johnson is a deep flex play, at best, in daily games.

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 13:50:48 -0800

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) practiced in full Friday, Dec. 12, and is probable for Week 15 against the Tennessee Titans.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,400) looks like a perfect sleeper selection on the surface at FantasyScore going against his old squad, who've been brutal against the run this year. However, remember that Chris Ivory ($4,300) is still in the lead in this backfield.

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Dec. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,400) is going against his old team in the Tennessee Titans this week. He's been looking better in recent weeks, but Chris Ivory ($4,300) remains in front of him for touches. Still, if there was a week to take a chance on him at FantasyScore as a cheap flex option, this might be the time to do it.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,300) had a season-high 17 carries for 105 yards in Week 13 as the team was heavily committed to the run. If you're willing to roll the dice that the Jets employ that same strategy against the Minnesota Vikings, you may have a steal on your hands at FantasyScore, but just remember that Chris Ivory ($4,300) remains the lead dog in this backfield.
