Fri, 03 Oct 2014 12:14:38 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 3, and is listed as probable for Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson continues to be part of a committee at running back, and his workload varies from week to week. Johnson costs $4,900 on FantasyScore, but owners may want to consider spending their money on a running back that has a more defined role in their offense.

Jets | Chris Johnson practicing again

Thu, 02 Oct 2014 13:31:20 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (ankle) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson will cost $4,900 (9.8% of cap) at FantasyScore in Week 5 against the San Diego Chargers. Now that Johnson has clearly taken a back seat to Chris Ivory, he's not an outstanding option for your daily lineups.

Jets | Chris Johnson a full go

Wed, 01 Oct 2014 14:23:58 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (ankle) practiced in full Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson had under 10 carries (six carries, 44 yards and a touchdown) for the first time this year in Week 4. He's clearly the backup to Chris Ivory, but he can still be useful as a flex in the right matchups.

Jets | Chris Ivory takes the lead

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 05:50:05 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory played 37 snaps (58% of the offense) in Week 4. RBs Chris Johnson and Bilal Powell only played on 18 and 11 snaps, respectively.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory is the clear leader right now and should be owned in all formats. Johnson could still become a factor, more so in PPR leagues, but it's tough to start him right now.

Jets | Chris Johnson wants more carries

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 17:25:40 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson said he will be a more efficient rusher if he receives more carries per game, but he said he isn't going to complain to offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. "It's still early," Johnson said. "I know what Marty wants to do, and I know what this offense wants to do. We want to run the ball. I don't think it's time right now to go in there and talk to Marty and try to tell him what he needs to do."

Fantasy Tip: Johnson leads the team with 35 carries this season, but teammate Chris Ivory is averaging 2.2 more yards per carry and has scored twice. Johnson seems to have lost the extra step that allowed him to rip off the huge runs on a weekly basis in his prime, and without his big-play ability, he doesn't offer much upside. Throw in the fact that Johnson hasnít been seeing much action around the goal line, and his $6,300 salary (12.4% of cap) at FantasyScore in Week 4 seems a little steep, especially against a Detroit defense that is allowing the second-fewest rush yards in the NFL through three games.

Jets | Chris Johnson gets full reps

Thu, 25 Sep 2014 13:41:42 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (ankle) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($6,300, 12.60% of cap) has received fewer touches than Chris Ivory in back-to-back weeks. The Jets face the Detroit Lions, who are allowing the second fewest rushing yards per game, too. Johnson is not a worthy investment this week.

Jets | Chris Ivory breaking more tackles

Tue, 23 Sep 2014 16:41:42 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory has forced .42 missed tackles per touch this year, while RB Chris Johnson has forced only .12 missed tackles per touch.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory had 96 total yards from scrimmage in Week 3, while Johnson struggled to find running room. The Jets have split the running duties virtually right down the middle through three games, but it looks as though Ivory, who's been more productive, might see more work moving forward. At $5,700 (11.4% of cap) at FantasyScore in Week 4 versus the Detroit Lions, Ivory appears to be a fine play.

Jets | Chris Johnson limited in practice

Fri, 19 Sep 2014 13:47:16 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (ankle) was limited in practice Friday, Sept. 19.

Fantasy Tip: It may be tough for Johnson to live up to expectations in Week 3 with a FantasyScore price of $6,200 against a tough Bears defense. That money may be better spent elsewhere.

Jets | Limited practice for Chris Johnson

Thu, 18 Sep 2014 14:42:43 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: After a big Week 1, Johnson had only 12 carries for 21 yards against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2. He's involved in a committee with Chris Ivory, and he may find little room to run against the Chicago Bears in Week 3.

Jets | NYJ RB trio splits snaps

Mon, 15 Sep 2014 08:47:55 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson played 27 snaps in Week 2, while RB Chris Ivory played 27 and RB Bilal Powell played 17 snaps Sunday, Sept. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Ivory's play could have elevated himself in the committee. He has 23 rushes for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson has 25 carries for 89 yards and no scores. Powell has just five rushing attempts. Ivory has been a cheap flex option on FantasyScore thus far, but his stock is rising for the Week 3 tilt against the Chicago Bears. Johnson is a weaker flex option at this point.

Jets | Ivory, Chris Johnson split work

Mon, 08 Sep 2014 07:08:25 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson played in 33 of the 70 offensive snaps inn Week 1. RB Chris Ivory played in 30 of the 70 offensive snaps.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is still the RB to own as a low-end RB2 or great RB3, while Ivory has played himself into flex consideration on FantasyScore.

Jets | Chris Johnson solid

Mon, 08 Sep 2014 06:55:30 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson had 13 carries for 68 yards and five catches for 23 yards with a touchdown in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is a low-end RB2 or a good RB3 on FantasyScore against the Packers in Week 2.

Jets | Chris Johnson impressing

Fri, 22 Aug 2014 11:42:23 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson is impressing the defense he practices against every day. "Oh yeah, he still has it," linebacker David Harris said. "We noticed it the first day when we were in Cortland. He's still the fastest guy on the field. He's still got a lot of juice in those legs."

Fantasy Tip: Couple this news with his strong showing in preseason games, and Johnson should be considered an RB2 option on draft day.

Jets | Chris Johnson has solid night

Sat, 16 Aug 2014 19:57:32 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson had 10 carries for 63 yards during the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson will likely never be the 2,000-yard back of old, but a performance like this is a reminder that he still has some burst left in the tank. The Jets want to run the ball on offense, and Johnson should have no problem producing like a RB2 if he stays healthy.

Jets | Chris Johnson looked rusty

Fri, 08 Aug 2014 09:28:51 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson looked rusty in his debut with the team against the Indianapolis Colts Thursday, Aug. 7. RB Chris Ivory (rib) was injured in the game and RB Bilal Powell (hamstring) is still nursing an injury, so Johnson was the team's lone healthy back for this game. Johnson dropped a pass on a third down and lacked burst while running, rushing for just two yards and a touchdown on four carries.

Fantasy Tip: Cimini said there's no reason to be alarmed, and he's right. It's just the first preseason game. Not much was gleaned from this game with Ivory and Powell sitting out. Johnson is the most experienced of the three, and Ivory has had problems staying healthy, so CJ2K will likely be the most valuable of this three-headed monster on your draft day.

Jets | Three RBs will receive playing time

Wed, 06 Aug 2014 11:50:17 -0700

New York Jets RBs Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell will all receive playing time this season, and the team likely will use a running back-by-committee approach, according to head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan said there is a chance the team uses the hot hand during games.

Fantasy Tip: Committees are not great news for fantasy owners, but the team wants to use all three in their running game. Johnson probably will have the most value entering the season because of his experience. Johnson's spot in starting lineups will depend on the matchup each week. Ivory and Powell likely will be later-round options as well as handcuffs for Johnson.

Sat, 02 Aug 2014 19:16:26 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) said he was pleased with how his surgically repaired knee felt during his first full contact practice Saturday, Aug. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson looks like a solid RB2 in all formats and should be a little more valuable in PPR leagues.

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 15:33:06 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) said he feels good now that he's been able to move laterally in practice.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson seems to be progressing nicely and remains a solid RB2 option in all scoring formats, even with RBs Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell sharing time.

Jets | Chris Johnson sits

Sat, 26 Jul 2014 12:05:54 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) was not a part of team drills Saturday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson will probably sit here and there throughout training camp as a precautionary measure for his surgically repaired knee. He's still the Jets' top running back option and should be drafted as a low-end RB2.

Jets | Chris Johnson moving around

Fri, 25 Jul 2014 05:48:28 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson was put in motion and flexed out wide a lot in practice Thursday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson is a solid RB2, but it sounds like he'll receive a boost in PPR leagues with the team's willingness to get him involved in the passing game.

Jets | Chris Johnson feeling good

Thu, 24 Jul 2014 13:33:14 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson (knee) said he feels good and didn't feel any pain after his first full-go since last season.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has been one of the most consistent fantasy running backs over the past several years. His stock has declined since his move to New York, however, with RBs Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell also in the mix. He's still a solid RB2 candidate.

Browns | Chris Johnson supports Johnny Manziel

Sun, 06 Jul 2014 07:10:39 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson supported Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel, saying he should be his own man when it comes to off the field activities. "Be your own man," Johnson said. "Do what you got to do. It's the offseason. That's when you get time to do whatever you want to do and live your life. I'm pretty sure once the season gets here, he'll be all right. He's going to focus in on football. But this is the time now to where he'll be able to hang out and do some of the things you want to do. Because once the season gets here, you really have no life. It's just football and football."

Jets | Chris Johnson confident in role as lead back

Wed, 02 Jul 2014 10:04:37 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson said Tuesday, July 1, that he's confident he'll be the team's lead back this year and won't be too involved in a timeshare with RBs Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell. "Once the season starts and once we're playing and I'm doing my thing, I'm pretty sure if I'm making plays they're going to want to keep handing the ball off to me," Johnson said. "If they want me to continue making plays, I'm pretty sure I can't do that if I'm on the sideline." Johnson said he's "pretty much cleared" by Dr. James Andrews after coming off offseason knee surgery, and he said he's close to 100 percent health.

Fantasy Tip: After Johnson's disappointing 2013 season, it's hard to envision him ever returning to his glory days running the football. The Jets will surely look to keep him fresh, but there is room for improvement if he can prove he deserves lead-back touches; the Jets said they'll go with a hot hand if one stands out. For now, consider Johnson a risky RB3 with upside for a bit more.

Jets | To limit Chris Johnson

Thu, 26 Jun 2014 05:44:11 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson's touches will be limited to keep him fresh, according to Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn. "He's got some miles on him," Lynn said. "So we're going to have to be strategic in how we use him, and when we use him, to keep him fresh so that he can be the explosive guy that I know that he can be." Johnson will be in a committee with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell.

Fantasy Tip: That's quite a different stance than the one reported a couple weeks ago that they were going to give him the ball as much as possible. Johnson is a decent receiver and has more value in PPR leagues as a RB2. Ivory and Powell are depth fantasy backs that could figure in more in good matchups.

Jets | Chris Johnson believes he can be a 2,000-yard back

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 14:22:16 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson is excited to run behind a veteran offensive line, and believes he can be a 2,000-yard back in 2014. "I don't feel like I'm getting older or I lost a step. I still feel good. I still feel explosive, I just know the type of player I am, I'd never sell myself short," Johnson said, Wednesday, June 18.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson's optimism and confidence in his offensive line is great, but he hasn't hit 1,500 combined yards since 2010, which should keep your fantasy expectations in check. Continue to value Johnson as a RB3 target with upside based on how much they use him in tandem with Chris Ivory.

Wed, 18 Jun 2014 13:54:32 -0700

Jets | Chris Johnson to be limited in practice

Tue, 17 Jun 2014 11:49:49 -0700

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said RB Chris Johnson (knee) will only work in individual drills and not in team drills during the team's minicamp this week.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be the team continuing to be cautious with their new running back. The real test will come at the start of training camp. For now, it appears that everything is still on schedule.

Jets | More on Chris Johnson

Tue, 17 Jun 2014 06:42:17 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn essentially said the team plans to let RB Chris Johnson run the ball as much as possible. "He's definitely going to get the ball," Lynn said. "So, it's what he does with the ball… He can have as many yards as he wants."

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has been a boom-or-bust pick the last couple of years, but he carries significantly less risk. He'll still be drafted as an RB2, but you can probably land him as an RB3 on occasion. He has something to prove, and if he proves it - he could be one of those risks that make pretenders contenders.

Jets | Chris Johnson could be main running back

Mon, 16 Jun 2014 11:38:32 -0700

If New York Jets RB Chris Johnson can prove he's still an explosive, dynamic and productive running back, he could be in line for most of the workload, according to a source. The New York Jets' distribution of backfield touches hasn't been panned out yet. Running backs coach Anthony Lynn said Johnson is "definitely going to get the ball" and has plenty left in the tank.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has been underrated ever since he landed in New York. Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell will take away some playing time, but Johnson is the Jets running back to own this season. As long as he stays healthy, which he has his whole career, he's a safe RB3 option, with RB2 potential if he does end up as the team's main running back.

Jets | Using caution with Chris Johnson

Wed, 11 Jun 2014 10:38:48 -0700

The New York Jets are taking it slow with RB Chris Johnson. Head coach Rex Ryan said he doesn't expect much from him during minicamp.

Fantasy Tip: This isnít too much to worry about. Itís to be expected that the Jets would be gentle with their new running back. As long as Johnson doesnít suffer an injury, heís still a RB3/flex option in standard leagues, considering heíll be sharing playing time with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell.

Jets | Unlikely to cut back on wildcat

Sat, 07 Jun 2014 06:21:05 -0700

The New York Jets are not likely to cut back on the wild cat or read-option in 2014, in the opinion of Rich Cimini of ESPN New York. The team could use more of those formations to maximize the speed of RB Chris Johnson.

Jets | Chris Johnson talks role

Thu, 22 May 2014 14:00:13 -0700

New York Jets RB Chris Johnson's (knee) primary focus right now is getting healthy. He is not worrying about touches, but he is looking forward to game planning that will give him opportunities in space. Johnson is focusing on becoming a more patient runner, as opposed to trying to break a big run every play.

Fantasy Tip: Monitor Johnson's practice involvement during the offseason. Johnson is in a timeshare with Chris Ivory, where he should see the majority of carries, and is the back better suited for passing downs. Johnson's fantasy value will be heavily dependent on yardage and receptions, making him a more appealing PPR option. At best, Johnson is a low-end No. 2 running back.
