Chiefs | Donnie Avery to undergo surgery

Thu, 02 Oct 2014 09:55:20 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs WR Donnie Avery (hernia) is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair a sports hernia and will not play in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Frankie Hammond Jr. and A.J. Jenkins could receive more playing time with Avery out but probably are not options in most fantasy leagues. Dwayne Bowe and Travis Kelce could also receive more targets with Avery out. Bowe costs $4,700 on FantasyScore and could be considered a flex option, while Kelce costs $5,800 and could be a fine starting tight end option.

Fri, 25 Oct 2013 13:18:39 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe (groin) did not practice Friday, Oct. 25, and is listed as questionable for Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Head coach Andy Reid said Bowe will be a game-time decision Sunday. "It's day to day," Reid said. "We'll just see how he does. He's feeling a little bit better today than he did yesterday." Bowe was injured toward the end of practice Thursday, Oct. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Donnie Avery and Dexter McCluster will be used more often if Bowe doesn't play or is limited in any fashion on game day. Junior Hemingway could also receive the start if Bowe is sidelined.

Chiefs | A.J. Jenkins acquired

Mon, 19 Aug 2013 09:20:36 -0700

The Kansas City Chiefs acquired WR A.J. Jenkins from the San Francisco 49ers Monday, Aug. 19, in exchange for WR Jonathan Baldwin.

Fantasy Tip: Jenkins wasn't impressing the Niners in his effort to replace Michael Crabtree (Achilles') as a main receiving threat opposite Anquan Boldin. He'll likely have less of a chance to make an impact in KC, but it is a new start, so don't overlook that opportunity. He'll have to compete with Donnie Avery and Dexter McCluster. Jenkins might be worth a late-round flier if he picks up the offense quickly and impresses in the final two weeks of the preseason.

Chiefs | Donnie Avery likely the No. 2 WR

Thu, 15 Aug 2013 13:54:24 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs WR Donnie Avery is likely to be the team's No. 2 receiver opposite WR Dwayne Bowe, but the team would like to see WR Jonathan Baldwin finally step up.

Fantasy Tip: Avery and Baldwin are both mildly intriguing in their own right. Avery could be a PPR steal if he wins the No. 2 job. Baldwin has all the physical tools but continues to disappoint on game day. Consider both decent late-game gambles with upside.

Chiefs | Donnie Avery, Dexter McCluster listed as backups

Sun, 04 Aug 2013 20:05:58 -0700

The Kansas City Chiefs released their first depth chart Sunday, Aug. 4, and WRs Donnie Avery and Dexter McCluster are listed as backups behind WRs Dwayne Bowe and Jonathan Baldwin. However, Avery and McCluster are frequently used in the slot or in multi-wideout formations.

Fantasy Tip: Avery and McCluster might have more fantasy potential than Baldwin, who has been rather disappointing over his first two NFL seasons. Still, each of the three should be considered WR4 or flex fantasy options.

"He is a unique specimen being as big as he is. He can do some things that other people can't do just by size and strength. It's important he puts himself into position to do that."
