Jets | Matt Forte crashes back to Earth

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 21:01:30 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte rushed 15 times for 65 yards in the Week 3 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and he had two grabs for minus-1 yard. However, he was held out of the end zone after piling up three scores last week.

Fantasy Tip: The New York offense struggled, posting just three points, so Forte's overall stat line isn't terrible, all things considered. He remains a low-end RB1 in all fantasy leagues, especially PPR formats.

Jets | Matt Forte's early workload not a concern

Sat, 24 Sep 2016 09:32:23 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte is on pace for 472 touches this season, but head coach Todd Bowles is not among those worried about his 30-year-old holding up for the entire season. "I don't worry about who plays a lot and who doesn't play a lot. Whoever's got the hot hand plays. If we can ride somebody, we'll ride him, whether it be a receiver, quarterback or running back. It really doesn't matter," Bowles said.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets played last Thursday, affording Forte a few more days of rest than he would typically have following a 30-carry effort in Week 2. It should go without saying that Forte will not continue logging carries at this pace, but his contributions in the passing game should keep him in the RB1 discussion anyway. His owners should use this time to buy low on his handcuff, Bilal Powell.

Fri, 23 Sep 2016 14:07:25 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 23, and is not on the injury report for Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Forte will continue to receive significant playing time and should see a lot of touches against the Kansas City Chiefs. He is a must-start option in all leagues as long as he can stay healthy.

Jets | Matt Forte practices in full Thursday

Thu, 22 Sep 2016 15:43:03 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (knee) practiced in full Thursday, September 22.

Fantasy Tip: This is an upgrade over his showing on Wednesday, when he was just a limited participant. Owners have to be pleased with his usage in the Jets offense thus far, as he's received 52 carries, as well as seven receptions in the passing game, en route to scoring three touchdowns and registering 264 total yards. With his status looking positive for Sunday, Forte should continue to be a RB1 option.

Jets | OC not worried about Matt Forte's workload

Thu, 22 Sep 2016 10:21:23 -0700

New York Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey said it is too early in the season for the team to start monitoring RB Matt Forte's touches.

Fantasy Tip: Forte has rushed the ball 52 times in the first two games and has caught seven passes during that span. He will continue to receive a majority of the work at running back and is a must-start option for owners.

Jets | Matt Forte limited in practice

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 12:27:38 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Sept. 21, but there is no concern about his availability for the Week 3 game against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Forte has handled 52 of 57 rushing attempts out of the backfield through the first two games, and he's coming off a three-touchdown showing in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills. However, with 2,087 career carries, the 31-year-old back will need to share the workload more going forward, or he'll risk breaking down. Forte is a potential sell-high candidate if you have the luxury of a deep running back corps.

Jets | Matt Forte still thriving

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 17:20:07 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte has shown no sign of old age or wear and tear yet in 2016. He is third in the NFL in rush attempts (52), second in rushing yards (196) and tied for first in rushing touchdowns (3). It was suspected that RB Bilal Powell would take away a good chunk of Forte's touches this season, but that has not been close to the case so far.

Fantasy Tip: Forte is a weekly RB1 in standard and PPR formats at this point. As for Powell, don't give up on him just yet, especially if you own both Forte and Powell. If anything were to happen to Forte then Powell would be the heir apparent in New York's backfield. Plus, the Jets may start considering that they're using Forte too much.

Jets | Matt Forte not taking it easy

Sat, 17 Sep 2016 18:05:31 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte had 32 touches in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills, and he is currently on pace for 472 touches this season.

Fantasy Tip: Forte isn't going to maintain his current usage rate, but it's clear the Jets want to have him heavily involved in the offense. He should be a strong RB2 in all formats as long as he is healthy.

Jets | Three scores for Matt Forte

Thu, 15 Sep 2016 21:11:34 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte finished with 30 carries 100 yards and three touchdowns and two catches for nine yards in a 37-31 win over the Buffalo Bills Thursday, Sept. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Forte is clearly the workhorse for the Jets, and if he can stay healthy, he looks like a high-end RB2.

Jets | Matt Forte sees the bulk of time

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 05:50:31 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte was in for 54 of the 71 offensive snaps in Week 1 while RB Bilal Powell was in on 17 plays.

Fantasy Tip: Forte rushed 22 times for 96 yards and caught five balls for 59 yards. It looked like a clear case of a team wanting to try out its new toy. Don't expect that kind of disparity moving forward. Forte is a solid RB2 in PPR leagues, and Powell should be handcuffed to him as an RB3 with upside should Forte go down.

Jets | NYJ expecting more balanced backfield?

Sat, 10 Sep 2016 09:14:10 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte will be the clear No. 1 back and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey has already noted he will not be a snap count, but he may be primarily a first- and second-down back while RB Bilal Powell handles the third-down snaps, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Fantasy Tip: If Cimini proves to be correct, Forte could have trouble being much more than a low-end RB2. Realistically, however, the Jets wouldn't have pursued Forte in free agency had they not anticipated using him as a receiver, so this may be much ado about nothing. New York running backs combined for 94 catches a season ago, so there will be plenty of opportunity for both players in the passing game. Expect Forte to be a steady RB2, while Powell should be a high-end RB3/flex as well as a valuable handcuff.

Jets | Matt Forte may play Saturday

Wed, 24 Aug 2016 13:32:13 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) hopefully will be able to play in the preseason game against the New York Giants Saturday, Aug. 27, as long as he does not suffer any setbacks, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Forte probably will see limited playing time against the Giants because the Jets want him to be ready for Week 1. Forte should receive most of the work at running back this season and can be a No. 2 running back in a majority of fantasy leagues.

Jets | Matt Forte practices more

Mon, 22 Aug 2016 16:44:48 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) increased his practice workload Monday, Aug. 22, and may play Saturday, Aug. 27, against the New York Giants.

Fantasy Tip: He may not play much if he does play, but it will still be nice to see how Forte looks since he's been recovering from the hamstring ailment. Even with his cumbersome workloads over his career, Forte is still a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 consideration.

Jets | NYJ wants to see Matt Forte in action

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 17:32:24 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte could "get a few snaps in" during next week's preseason game against the New York Giants if head coach Todd Bowles gets his wish, according to SNY reporter Ralph Vacchiano.

Fantasy Tip: Forte has reportedly impressed in practices recently after missing a significant portion of the early part of training camp. The longtime Chicago Bear isn't a great bet to return to RB1 status in New York since he will be sharing backfield touches with Bilal Powell and, to a lesser extent, Khiry Robinson, but he should still be a factor as a midrange RB2 in PPR formats.

Jets | Matt Forte not ruled out

Wed, 17 Aug 2016 13:43:54 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) has a slim chance to play in the preseason game against the Washington Redskins Friday, Aug. 19, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

Fantasy Tip: Forte probably would receive limited snaps if he plays against the Redskins but should receive more playing time in the third preseason game. Forte should be a No. 2 running back in most leagues since he will be involved in the running and passing game.

Jets | Matt Forte practicing Wednesday

Wed, 17 Aug 2016 12:14:38 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) is participating in team drills during practice Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Forte appears to be making good progress and probably will be able to play at some point during the preseason. Forte should receive most of the work at running back this season and is a low-end No. 1 or a high-end No. 2 running back in a majority of leagues.

Jets | Matt Forte should be ready for opener

Tue, 16 Aug 2016 15:20:02 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) said he will definitely be ready to play in Week 1. His goal is see some action in the third preseason game against the New York Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Forte's workloads from his time with the Chicago Bears can't be ignored, especially at the age of 30. He's still New York's primary ball carrier, though, and will see plenty of touches as long as he's healthy. Bilal Powell and Khiry Robinson will hinder him from reaching his fantasy ceiling, but Forte is still a borderline RB1 in all formats.

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 11:23:41 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) is participating in individual drills during practice Sunday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Forte has been sidelined for a few weeks because of his hamstring but appears to be making some progress. Forte will be the starting running back for the Jets this season if he is healthy and should be a No. 2 running back in most leagues.

Jets | No timetable established for Matt Forte's return

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 08:03:53 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) did not practice Saturday, Aug. 13, and it remains uncertain when he will be able to return. However, head coach Todd Bowles said Forte has been receiving treatment and isn't concerned at this point about beginning the regular season without him.

Fantasy Tip: Forte should be viewed as a high-end RB2, with added value in PPR fantasy leagues, although he shouldn't be considered a bellcow anymore due to the presence of RBs Bilal Powell and Khiry Robinson. There are some risks which come with drafting him, including age (he will turn 31 in December) and workload (2,035 rushing attempts entering this season) but he can still be a productive back when healthy.

Jets | Matt Forte won't play Thursday

Tue, 09 Aug 2016 12:22:27 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) did not practice Tuesday, Aug. 9, and will not play in the Jets' first preseason game Thursday, Aug. 11, against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: New York will take it easy with their new star running back leading up to the regular season, especially considering the workloads he had with the Chicago Bears. Forte's PPR value may have slipped a little bit with Bilal Powell also in the mix, but Forte is still a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 consideration.

Jets | Matt Forte still missing practice time

Fri, 05 Aug 2016 11:23:33 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) did not participate in positional drills during practice Friday, Aug. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Forte's a fading fantasy star, but he projects to have a prominent role in the offense and remains a viable RB2 with more upside in PPR settings. Just remember, he has competition for touches in Bilal Powell and Khiry Robinson, and Forte has 2,035 career rushing attempts entering his age-31 campaign.

Jets | Matt Forte will miss first preseason game

Thu, 04 Aug 2016 13:17:06 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) will not be ready for the preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday, Aug. 11, according to head coach Todd Bowles, as he continues to nurse a hamstring issue.

Fantasy Tip: Forte is an experienced veteran who may see a lot of time off during the preseason in order to be fully ready for the regular season. Assuming he there's not a setback, he should still be looked at as an RB2 with added value in PPR formats.

Jets | Limited practice for Matt Forte

Wed, 03 Aug 2016 11:59:47 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) did not participate in team drills Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Fantasy Tip: View Forte as an RB2 with more value in PPR formats. He'll turn 31 midseason and already has 2,035 rushing attempts on his resume, though, so there are some risks here. Additionally, don't confuse him as a bell-cow back with Bilal Powell and Khiry Robinson also in the mix.

Tue, 02 Aug 2016 12:00:55 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 2. He missed the first four practices of training camp with a hamstring ailment.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets were simply being cautious with their new running back. Forte should be good to go as long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks. Continue to view him as a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 with added value in PPR formats.

Jets | Matt Forte being cautious with hamstring

Mon, 01 Aug 2016 07:12:35 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) has missed the first four practices of training camp after tweaking his hamstring while running on his own, and he is being cautious with the injury to avoid a setback. As a veteran of nine seasons, there is not a lot of urgency to get Forte on the field.

Fantasy Tip: While a hamstring strain before camp even opens sets an ominous tone for a well-seasoned running back like Forte, he's taking the smart approach by not rushing it. In PPR scoring, he's a fringe RB1 and a much safer second back.

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 14:54:00 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Jets RB Matt Forte (hamstring) did not practice Thursday, July 28, because of a hamstring injury. Head coach Todd Bowles said Forte is considered day-to-day at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Forte probably will receive a few days off, but it does not appear like he will be miss significant time because of the injury. He should receive a majority of the work at running back this season and can be a No. 2 running back in most leagues.

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 12:44:51 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (undisclosed) is not participating in practice Thursday, July 28, because of an undisclosed reason.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Forte is dealing with an injury. Forte should receive most of the touches from the running back position this season and likely will be involved in the passing game. Forte should be considered a No. 2 running back in most leagues.

Jets | Lots of rest for Matt Forte

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 13:42:46 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte should receive plenty of rest this season with RBs Bilal Powell and Khiry Robinson also in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: It's to be expected that a running back at Forte's age and with Forte's workload wouldn't be a bellcow anymore. He's still the Jets' top option at the position, though, and should be viewed as a high-end RB2.

Jets | Matt Forte healthy, ready to go

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 17:08:05 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte said he feels physically fresh and ready to go for the 2016 season, and he said one of the reasons he chose to sign with the Jets was because he believes the team's training room will help keep him healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Forte's age could cause him to slip in drafts, but he could creep into RB2 territory one last time, especially in PPR formats.

Jets | Matt Forte could play in slot

Sun, 29 May 2016 10:42:52 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte could line up as a wide receiver in 2016. Offensive coordinator Chan Gailey said the Jets need to adjust their system to make fit Forte, including lining him up wide or in the slot at times.

Fantasy Tip: Forte is still one of the best pass-catching running backs in the NFL. And while he may lose some receiving duties to fellow RB Bilal Powell, he's still comfortably in RB2 territory with added value in PPR formats.

Jets | Matt Forte not ready to slow down

Sun, 15 May 2016 20:44:36 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte said he wants break the older running back stereotype, and his goal is to rush for 1,000 yards and catch as many passes as the offense allows.

Fantasy Tip: Forte is no longer the RB1 option he was with Chicago, but he is a RB2 candidate in PPR formats and a RB3 option in standard formats.

Jets | Matt Forte could have significant role

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 09:40:31 -0700

New York Jets RB Matt Forte said he hasn't talked about specifics of his role on the team this year, but he expects to have a substantial role in the offense. "They see me as an every-down back," Forte said in his first interview since signing a three-year, $12 million contract.

Fantasy Tip: Matters were complicated when the Jets signed both Bilal Powell and Khiry Robinson, so it could be a three-headed monster in New York with Forte leading the way. Despite the tread on Forte's tires, he could have upside as an RB2 in PPR leagues in this offense if Ryan Fitzpatrick returns. But it's safer to value him as an RB3 with Powell and Robinson in the picture.

Jets | Matt Forte heading to the Jets

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 12:08:38 -0800

Free-agent RB Matt Forte (Bears) is signing with the New York Jets Wednesday, March 9, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Jets lost Chris Ivory and could see Bilal Powell depart, too, which puts Forte in a position for a heavy workload in New York. However, Forte has plenty of wear on his tires and could be spelled often. If Ryan Fitzpatrick comes back, though, this could be a positive environment for Forte, and he could be an RB2 in PPR formats.

NFL | Two more teams like Matt Forte

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 10:11:30 -0800

The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins are also considering free-agent RB Matt Forte (Bears). Forte's market will begin to heat up once the other running backs on the market sign.

Fantasy Tip: This makes sense, since the Jets are losing Chris Ivory and the Dolphins Lamar Miller in free agency. Forte could be a nice fit with either club, and despite his advanced age and heavy mileage, could be a nice RB3 in point-per-reception formats.

Packers | Green Bay interested in Matt Forte

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 10:36:00 -0800

The Green Bay Packers are showing interest in free-agent RB Matt Forte (Bears), according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Forte has a wide range of possibilities for landing spots in free agency, but Green Bay might be one of the more intriguing. It's uncertain how his role would shake out with Eddie Lacy in the mix, but Forte would likely have a role as a pass-catching back in at least third-down situations. That could make him an RB3 in PPR leagues.

Patriots | New England fixed on upgrading backfield

Sun, 28 Feb 2016 13:21:31 -0800

Impending free-agent RBs Chris Ivory (Jets), Matt Forte (Bears), Alfred Morris (Redskins) and Joique Bell (Lions) are among the veterans on the radar of the New England Patriots, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots would do well to upgrade from LeGarrette Blount and each of the aforementioned names - outside of Bell - would provide that. Ivory is perhaps the most intriguing option in that he is an early-down thumper that would be a great complement to dynamic passing-down back Dion Lewis. If Ivory joins New England, he could be a solid RB2 option in most leagues.

Ravens | Baltimore unlikely to pursue Matt Forte

Mon, 15 Feb 2016 15:17:13 -0800

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB Matt Forte probably will not be an option for the Baltimore Ravens this offseason because he does not have a great relationship with offensive coordinator Marc Trestman.

Fantasy Tip: The Ravens likely will go with Justin Forsett as their main running back next season if he is able to recover from his injury. Forsett probably will be a middle-round option in most leagues. Forte should find a job this season but may not be a starter like he was in Chicago. Forte's value will be determined by his new team.

Colts | Indy may not pursue Matt Forte

Sun, 14 Feb 2016 11:18:31 -0800

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB Matt Forte is not expected to be a serious consideration for the Indianapolis Colts this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: The Colts already have an older running back in Frank Gore, it's highly unlikely that they would pair an older running back with another older running back, even though Forte may offer more in the passing game. It would benefit the Colts more to draft and/or sign a younger running back that could even possibly take over for Gore when he's done.

Panthers | Carolina not expected to add Matt Forte

Sun, 14 Feb 2016 10:41:15 -0800

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB Matt Forte likely will not be an option for the Carolina Panthers this offseason unless the team decides to release RB Jonathan Stewart.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart played well when he was healthy this past season and probably will return to the team, which means Forte will sign with another team. Stewart could be considered a No. 2 running back in some leagues next season, while Forte's value will depend on his new team.

Bears | Jeremy Langford not an every-down back?

Sat, 13 Feb 2016 17:50:17 -0800

Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford is a more physical runner than impending free-agent RB Matt Forte, according to the team's former scouting director Greg Gabriel, but Gabriel said Langford will likely never be the receiver that Forte is.

Fantasy Tip: As long as the Bears don't add another quality back during the offseason, Langford should enter 2016 as the starting back, and he projects as a serviceable RB2.

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 18:52:58 -0800

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB Matt Forte will be lucky to command more than $4 million per year, according to league sources.

Fantasy Tip: Forte has been one of the most versatile backs in the league throughout his career, but his status as a reliable RB1 could change depending on where he lands in free agency.

Browns | Matt Forte unlikely to join Browns

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 16:39:36 -0800

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB Matt Forte will not be an option for the Cleveland Browns during free agency, in the opinion on ESPNCleveland.com's Tony Grossi.

Fantasy Tip: The Browns have a few running back options already next season, and Duke Johnson likely will have a bigger role in the offense in 2016. He could be a middle-round option in some deeper leagues. Forte likely will be able to find a job as a change-of-pace back during the offseason and could be selected in the middle rounds of drafts.

Saints | Matt Forte a long shot for Saints

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 12:35:24 -0800

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB Matt Forte probably will not be pursued by the New Orleans Saints this offseason unless he is willing to accept a hometown discount.

Fantasy Tip: Mark Ingram likely will enter next season as the starter, but Forte could be the backup running back if he decides to play closer to his home town. Forte would be a fine option in point-per-reception leagues because of the Saints' offense, but there is a good chance he signs elsewhere.

Jaguars | Jacksonville may look at Matt Forte

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 12:28:49 -0800

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB Matt Forte could receive some interest from the Jacksonville Jaguars if he is willing to accept a shared role at running back. The team has plenty of money to spend this offseason but may not be willing to pay Forte a high salary if he will only be a part-time player.

Fantasy Tip: The Jaguars likely will use T.J. Yeldon as their main running back this season, which would make Forte more of a change-of-pace back if he signs with the team. Forte would still be a decent option in point-per-reception league because of his receiving ability but would be more of a middle-round pick in standard leagues.

Jets | Matt Forte could be an option for Jets

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 12:22:35 -0800

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB Matt Forte could receive interest from the New York Jets as a third-down back but probably would not have a chance to start.

Fantasy Tip: The running back position for the Jets is uncertain at this point since their top three backs are free agents. The team would like to re-sign Chris Ivory and have him as their starting running back, so Forte probably would be used more as a receiver if he signs with New York. Forte could be a middle-round option in fantasy leagues if he finds himself in this situation.

Seahawks | Seattle unlikely to pursue Matt Forte

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 12:10:41 -0800

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB Matt Forte likely will not be an option for the Seattle Seahawks this offseason because of their salary cap situation and needs at other positions.

Fantasy Tip: It seems like Thomas Rawls will be the next running back for the Seahawks, so Forte probably would receive some work as a backup running back or a receiver out of the backfield. Forte probably would be a middle-round option if he decided to join the Seahawks.

Cowboys | Matt Forte may be too old for Dallas

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 12:09:34 -0800

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB Matt Forte could receive interest from the Dallas Cowboys if the price is right, but they may want to look for a younger option at the position since Forte is 30 years old.

Fantasy Tip: Forte probably will receive interest from other teams but may have to play behind Darren McFadden if he signs with the Cowboys. He probably would be used more as a receiver if he joins Dallas and would be a middle-round option in most leagues.
