Lions | Detroit not adding Ray Rice

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 17:51:54 -0700

Free-agent RB Ray Rice (Ravens) is not an option for the Detroit Lions, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Lions recently lost Ameer Abdullah but will not be signing Rice to replace him. It is not known if Rice will play in the NFL again. Theo Riddick and Zach Zenner should share work at running back moving forward. Riddick probably has more value because of his ability to be a receiver out of the back field. He could be a low-end No. 2 running back or a flex option in point-per-reception leagues. Zenner could be a flex option in deeper leagues.

NFL | Ray Rice releases training video

Wed, 14 Sep 2016 20:06:47 -0700

Free-agent RB Ray Rice (Ravens) released an extreme training video Tuesday, Sept. 13, showing him working out at a Connecticut gym. He was wearing a weighted vest and oxygen-deprivation mask, as well as showing his vertical leap and agility. He has not played in an NFL game since the 2013 season, but some believe there is a "growing sense" the 29-year-old will get a shot to return this season. He vowed to donate every game check this season to programs focusing on education and prevention of domestic violence.

Fantasy Tip: Rice might very well get a chance to return and show what he can do, but fantasy owners need not bother with him until he gets another chance, knocks off the rust and proves he can play at a high level again. He might not be fantasy relevant until 2017, even if he gets a chance to come back this year.

NFL | Ray Rice would donate entire salary

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 19:03:45 -0700

Free-agent RB Ray Rice said that if he gets a chance to return to the NFL this season, he would donate his entire salary to organizations with programs focusing on education and prevention of domestic violence and supporting survivors and their families. "Me donating my salary is something that'll be from the heart for me," Rice stated. "I only want to play football so I can end it the right way for my kids and for the people that really believed in me. But I know there are a lot of people affected by domestic violence, and every dollar helps. It's raising awareness."

Fantasy Tip: That's a very nice gesture on the part of Rice, but as he even acknowledged last week, his career is probably over. Even aside from his off-the-field incident, the three-time Pro Bowler exhibited a notable decline in his last season, which came in 2013, as he averaged a career-low 3.1 yards on 214 carries. Still 29 years old, there's always a chance he could resurface at some point in the future. In the meantime, he's been staying in game shape by working out near his home in Connecticut.

NFL | Ray Rice says window is closing

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 12:37:16 -0700

Free-agent RB Ray Rice (Ravens) said he still hopes to play in the NFL but understands that his window to play again is closing because of his age and his off-field incident.

Fantasy Tip: Rice probably will not join a team this season and would only receive a limited role if he does sign with a team. Owners in all leagues can avoid Rice this season.

NFL | Ray Rice still wants to play

Wed, 20 Jan 2016 11:53:56 -0800

Free-agent RB Ray Rice (Ravens) said he's still hopeful that he'll be given another shot to play in the NFL.

Fantasy Tip: Rice hasn't played since the end of the 2013 regular season, so there would be obvious rust concerns. But it remains to be seen if an NFL organization will even grant him a second chance in the league. He's unlikely to be anything more than a late-round flier in fantasy drafts if he does eventually sign with a team.

Browns | Cleveland owner open to adding Ray Rice

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 15:07:42 -0700

Free-agent RB Ray Rice (Ravens) deserves a second chance in the NFL, according to Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, and Haslam said he would be fine with the Browns signing Rice.

Fantasy Tip: Rice does not appear to be an immediate option for the Browns, but he could be an option if the team struggles in the running game. Rice continues to find problems finding a job and likely will not have much fantasy value if he plays this season.
