Bears | Start Martellus Bennett in Week 4

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 21:06:54 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett faces a very favorable matchup in Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders have been carved up by opposing tight ends in the first three weeks, giving up 305 receiving yards and a league-high five touchdowns, including 105 yards and a touchdown against Cleveland Browns journeyman TE Gary Barnidge in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: With the Bears expected to use Jimmy Clausen in place of the injured Jay Cutler again, the passing radius will be much smaller for the quarterback and that benefits the tight end and running backs in the receiving game. Look for Bennett ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) to post a big stat line in Week 4 for FantasyScore players.

Bears | Martellus Bennett a good bet to score

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 21:24:06 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett faces the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3, and the Seahawks have allowed touchdowns to opposing tight ends in each of the first two games of the season.

Fantasy Tip: With Jay Cutler sidelined, Bennett ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) could be leaned on heavily as a safety valve for Jimmy Clausen ($4,600, 9.2% of cap). He is a viable starter at FantasyScore.

Bears | Martellus Bennett has so-so day

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 16:43:57 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett posted four receptions for 48 yards in the Week 2 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) did very little after finding the end zone in Week 1. With Jay Cutler leaving due to injury, that did not help, and Bennett's FantasyScore value going forward might take a hit if he is stuck with Jimmy Clausen rather than Cutler. Stay tuned.

Bears | Martellus Bennett likes September

Sat, 12 Sep 2015 18:22:02 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett faces the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Sept 13, and he has scored a touchdown in 10 of the last 12 games he has played in the month of September.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) should be in line for a sizeable workload with Brandon Marshall ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) now with the Jets and Alshon Jeffery ($6,600 13.2% of cap) questionable with an injury, and he should make a strong option at FantasyScore in Week 1.

Bears | Martellus Bennett confident

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 19:54:05 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett said he isn't worried about his production declining because of the time he missed while protesting his contract. "Some terminology and still learning some things like that, but overall … I don't think anyone has the offense down," Bennett said Thursday, July 30. "I may be a leg behind, but I'm a pretty quick learner."

Fantasy Tip: Bennett is coming off a strong year, and despite the new offense in Chicago, he is a safe pick as mid-level TE1.

Bears | Jay Cutler works out with teammates

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 09:08:19 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler worked out with some of his offensive teammates at Vanderbilt University this week. WR Eddie Royal, WR Kevin White and TE Martellus Bennett were among the players in attendance.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler has had some down performances the last few seasons but should have several weapons to work with this season. Cutler probably is not a starting quarterback in fantasy at this point but could be a solid No. 2 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Bears | Martellus Bennett at minicamp

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 17:41:09 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett participated in minicamp practice Tuesday, June 16, after skipping the first three weeks of organized team activities. Bennett told reporters he expects to be at training camp on reporting day in late July.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett is a safe top-five tight end selection, even with the Bears implementing a new offense.

Bears | Martellus Bennett expected at minicamp

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 12:34:35 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is expected to participate in minicamp this week after skipping organized team activities in previous weeks. Bennett has wanted a new contract.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett may be ready to get down to business, but that doesn't mean he's happy with his current contract now. As long as he plays and is healthy, he's still a top-five tight end candidate for the 2015 season.

Bears | Coach unsure of Martellus Bennett's attendance

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 23:46:57 -0700

Chicago Bears coach John Fox is not sure whether TE Martellus Bennett will be at mandatory minicamp when it opens shortly. Bennett is pushing for a raise from the $4.9 million base he's scheduled to earn in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Now things could get serious for Bennett. The team can fine him if he misses the June 16-18 camp, so this situation bears watching. Bennett will be a decent TE2 presence in most fantasy drafts, but if he intends to hold out for a new deal it could get dicey.

Bears | Martellus Bennett still not at OTAs

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 13:07:03 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is still absent from organized team activities. The Bears will be able to fine Bennett if he misses mandatory minicamp, which starts later this month. Bennett has made it clear that he wants a new contract.

Fantasy Tip: The OTAs are voluntary, so Bennett is safe for now. When it will really get interesting is when he could possibly start being fined in a couple weeks. He's one of the better tight ends when he's healthy and determined, amassing 90 catches for 916 yards and 6 touchdowns last year. Assuming he returns and plays, Bennett has top-five TE potential in 2015.
