Packers | Martellus Bennett suffers non-contact injury

Fri, 28 Jul 2017 08:07:48 -0700

Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett (leg) suffered an apparent leg injury after a non-contact fall in practice Friday, July 28. Bennett required assistance to stand, limping away as he grabbed his left leg.

Fantasy Tip: Keep a close eye on this one. Non-contact injuries have a storied history of taking out players for extended time. Bennett is a tough guy and hopefully escaped without serious injury. He is a fringe TE1 as a matchup play if this turns out to be nothing.

Packers | Green Bay has embraced TE in red zone

Tue, 11 Jul 2017 20:02:30 -0700

Green Bay Packers TEs Andrew Quarless (13) and Richard Rodgers (14) ranked among the team's top three players in red zone targets in 2014 in 2015, respectively, before Jared Cook's injury-plagued 2016 campaign ruined the streak. Martellus Bennett signed a three-year, $21 million contract to be the team's top tight end in the offseason.

Fantasy Tip: There seems to be a notion Aaron Rodgers doesn't throw to his tight ends nearly enough, but owners need to keep in mind the last time he had someone as talented as Bennett was when Jermichael Finley was healthy in 2011. Bennett is being drafted like a low-end TE1, but he has arguably the best shot among tight ends drafted after the first four or five rounds to compete with the likes of Rob Gronkowski, Travis Kelce and Jordan Reed.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers excited for TE group

Thu, 29 Jun 2017 20:36:45 -0700

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said the additions of TE Martellus Bennett and TE Lance Kendricks give the offense more flexibility to run two-tight end sets. "Both guys can put their hand on the ground and go and block guys really well but also add that dimension in the passing game," Rodgers said.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett should headline the tight end group, and he is probably the best tight end Rodgers will have worked with. He should be able to produce TE1 numbers in Green Bay's potent passing attack.

Packers | Martellus Bennett connecting with Aaron Rodgers

Mon, 29 May 2017 13:25:18 -0700

Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett has made it a priority to get to know QB Aaron Rodgers this offseason. Bennett said he's had a lot of conversations with his new quarterback and has really made an effort to simply befriend Rodgers. "I'm just trying to do my job, make sure I can keep up with [my teammates], Bennett said. "They've been doing a good job for so long, I'm just trying to get in where I fit in right now."

Fantasy Tip: Bennett played well behind and in place of Rob Gronkowski last year, finishing as a TE1 when he wasn't even technically a starter. As the clear frontrunner to start at tight end with Rodgers throwing his way, Bennett is in a prime spot to make it to TE1 territory again.

Packers | Green Bay adding Martellus Bennett

Fri, 10 Mar 2017 15:13:55 -0800

Free-agent TE Martellus Bennett (Patriots) has agreed to terms with the Green Bay Packers Friday, March 10, according to a source. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett struggled with some injuries last season but still finished the season with 701 yards and seven touchdowns. He should have a major role in the Packers' passing game in 2017 and can be a No. 1 tight end in all fantasy leagues.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett closes door on return

Wed, 08 Mar 2017 20:20:22 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent TE Martellus Bennett announced on his Twitter account Wednesday, March 8, he will not return to the Patriots in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: This news became fait accompli the moment the Patriots' trade for Dwayne Allen was announced on Wednesday. Bennett is arguably the best free-agent tight end on the market and is expected to command a fairly sizable deal, so he doesn't figure to be out of work for long. The Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders and New York Giants are reportedly the three teams pursuing him the hardest. Any of those situations should allow him to be a low-end fantasy TE1 in 2017.

Sun, 05 Mar 2017 18:43:17 -0800

New England Patriots impending free-agent TE Martellus Bennett is on the radar of the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: If the Raiders are able to sign Bennett, he would immediately become Oakland's top tight and a low-end TE1 option for fantasy owners.
