Patriots | Martellus Bennett at practice

Thu, 08 Dec 2016 10:53:25 -0800

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle, shoulder) is participating in practice Thursday, Dec. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett has been held to only 40 yards combined in the last three games and has gone seven games without a touchdown. He will continue to be the team's No. 1 tight end with Rob Gronkowski out, but owners may want to consider using other options and keeping Bennett on the bench.

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 07:12:35 -0800

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle, shoulder) will play in Week 13's game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett was a limited participant in the team's two most recent practice sessions during the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report. With Rob Gronkowski sidelined for the remainder of the season, Bennett should see an increased number of targets going forward and should be viewed as a TE1 despite several recent disappointing performances.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett questionable for Week 13

Fri, 02 Dec 2016 13:56:35 -0800

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle, shoulder) is listed as questionable for Week 13 versus the Los Angeles Rams.

Fantasy Tip: Rob Gronkowski's absence would seem to serve as a boost for Bennett's fantasy fortunes, but he may be too injured to take advantage and should be viewed as a TE2. Since his three-touchdown explosion in Week 5, Bennett has scored double-digit fantasy points in PPR only once and failed to find the end zone. Dion Lewis, James White and Malcolm Mitchell appear to be much better bets to see more targets moving forward.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett returns to practice

Thu, 01 Dec 2016 17:31:49 -0800

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle, shoulder) was limited at practice Thursday, Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett missed practice on Wednesday, but this news indicates he'll be good to go for Week 13. With Rob Gronkowski (back) out indefinitely, there will be nothing preventing Bennett from serving as a TE1 on a weekly basis to close out the 2016 season. He should be in all lineups.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett misses practice

Wed, 30 Nov 2016 17:14:32 -0800

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle, shoulder) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett probably is taking things slow this week, but owners should check on the status later in the week. Bennett has struggled over the last few weeks and will face a Los Angeles Rams defense that plays well against tight ends. Owners may want to look for other options to use and keep Bennett on the bench this week.

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett posted three receptions for 22 yards in the Week 12 game against the New York Jets. He was targeted five times.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett participated on a limited basis in two of the team's three practice sessions during the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report. He should have a decent role in the passing game, although he is coming off a disappointing performance versus the 49ers. View Bennett as a low-end TE1 this week because of the favorable matchup.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett absent Thursday

Thu, 24 Nov 2016 14:05:11 -0800

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Nov. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett was limited yesterday, so the downgrade is concerning. He could start again, though, with Rob Gronkowski iffy for Week 12. It's not a given that Bennett will be inactive, so keep tabs on both of their statuses heading into the weekend. If Gronk doesn't play then Bennett is a low-end TE1 option.

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle) was limited during practice Wednesday, Nov. 23.

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 22:24:01 -0800

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett had just one catch for 14 yards on two targets in the Week 11 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett's performance was a disappointment after he had triple-digit yardage against Seattle last week and Rob Gronkowski was inactive for this one. Treat Bennett as a TE2 heading into Week 12 against the New York Jets.

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 08:09:51 -0800

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett will be a free agent after the season, but re-signing him will be a priority for the Patriots this offseason, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett could consider looking for a starting job in free agency but has found a great fit with the Patriots, so there is a solid chance that he stays. He should be a No. 1 fantasy tight end for the final seven weeks of the season.

Sat, 29 Oct 2016 22:54:35 -0700

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle) will play in the team's Week 8 game against the Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett should play in Week 8

Sat, 29 Oct 2016 10:26:27 -0700

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle) did not practice Friday, Oct. 28, but he is expected to be available to play in Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett has played through the injury for a few weeks already, so the bigger concern for owners is his decreasing snap counts. Bennett is remarkably still the overall TE2 in fantasy, although it appears his big games going forward will come only when defenses sell out to stop Rob Gronkowski and not because he is a key part of the offense. He's quickly become a high-risk, high-reward TE1.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett questionable for Week 8

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 14:05:47 -0700

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle) missed practice Friday, Oct. 28, and is listed as questionable for Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett has been questionable since suffering the injury during his three-touchdown effort in Week 5 and has yet to miss a game, although missed practices on Friday are rarely a good thing. His snaps have decreased each week since Rob Gronkowski has returned to full health and the Patriots could ultimately decide to sit him out versus Buffalo with their bye coming up next week. While it is likely he will play, owners should have another option ready just in case.

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Oct. 27.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett quiet in victory

Mon, 24 Oct 2016 09:15:56 -0700

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett was limited to 30 snaps on 57 offensive plays in a Week 7 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, managing only one catch for five yards while running only 10 pass routes.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett is still No. 2 overall in scoring among tight ends but his production has been extremely up-and-down. He has mixed three PPR performances in which he has scored double figures with three in which he has posted 4.4 or fewer. It's beginning to look as if the Patriots see him more as a sixth offensive lineman and less as a player who can dominate games in which Rob Gronkowski receives too much defensive attention. Bennett should be considered a highly volatile low-end TE1 until further notice.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett falls back to Earth

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 22:22:59 -0700

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett hauled in five receptions for 48 yards in the Week 6 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He was targeted five times.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett exploded for three touchdowns, but he certainly took a back seat to Rob Gronkowski in this one. That will continue, although there is still plenty of ball to go around to make Bennett a solid low-end TE1 in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle) will be active for Week 6's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett was limited in practice throughout the week and was listed as questionable on the most recent edition of the injury report. Updating a previous report, New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 14, and is listed as questionable for Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett appears to have created a solid role for himself in the passing game and likely will create mismatches during game. He likely will not catch three touchdowns again but should be a No. 1 tight end in all leagues.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett questionable

Fri, 14 Oct 2016 14:15:47 -0700

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle) was listed as questionable on the team's injury report Friday, Oct. 14, after practicing on a limited basis this week.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett is fully expected to go and coming off a three-score game against the Cleveland Browns, so owners should feel confident about him moving forward. While a repeat of such a performance is obviously not likely to happen, he figures to benefit from the return of Tom Brady and the presence of Rob Gronkowski for the rest of this season. He should be considered a solid TE1 option.

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett had three touchdowns Sunday, Oct. 9, in a 33-13 win over the Cleveland Browns. Bennett caught six passes for 67 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett's rise to the top of the receiving charts should come as no surprise. In Rob Gronkowski's absence the quarterbacks had to find someone to throw the ball to and Bennett fit the bill. Keep Bennett in your lineup if at all possible.

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle) was able to return to the team's Week 5 game after leaving early because of an ankle injury.

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 10:18:02 -0700

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle) suffered an ankle injury in Week 5 and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett has posted two 100-yard games this season but recorded only 24 yards in the other two games. He should have a solid role with Tom Brady as the quarterback and can be a low-end No. 1 tight end or a flex option for owners.

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 14:01:15 -0700

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett caught five passes for 114 yards and one touchdown against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett has replaced Rob Gronkowski in the starting lineup over the last two weeks and has played well. Bennett will lose some targets when Gronkowski returns but should still have some fantasy value. He should be a starting candidate in Week 3 if Gronkowski is still out.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett to block most of Week 2

Fri, 16 Sep 2016 10:16:00 -0700

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett figures to be used extensively as a blocker again in Week 2 versus the Miami Dolphins, according to CSN New England's Tom Curran.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett has always been a good blocker and those skills came in particularly handy in Week 1 with multiple offensive linemen and Rob Gronkowski out. With little expected to change on the injury front this week, it seems reasonable to expect more of the same - he was asked to block on 43-of-69 plays against the Arizona Cardinals - so consider him a low-floor TE2 until the Patriots get healthier.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett earns praise

Tue, 13 Sep 2016 22:20:45 -0700

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett was given a glowing assessment of his Week 1 play by offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who said that Bennett "did an excellent job" against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett was used primarily as a blocker in Week 1, finishing with three catches for 14 yards despite the absence of Rob Gronkowski. Better health at the tackle position should help Bennett get more involved in the passing game, but he's best left inactive until that actually happens.

Patriots | Plenty of action for Martellus Bennett?

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 14:45:08 -0700

New England Patriots TEs Martellus Bennett and Rob Gronkowski could be on the field together for up to 80% of the Patriots' plays, in the opinion of ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss. Head coach Bill Belichick views the tight ends as interchangeable and believes they can cause problems for opposing defenses when they're on the field at the same time.

Fantasy Tip: New England hasn't been shy about two-tight end sets in previous years. The Gronk-Bennett duo would be dynamic in the red zone, too, at least on paper. They could also be used together more frequently in the first four games of the season to give Jimmy Garoppolo more high-percentage targets. Gronk is the No. 1 fantasy tight end when healthy, even with Bennett "interfering," but Bennett deserves more credit behind Gronk and is draftable as a midrange TE2.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett fine in backup role

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 15:26:13 -0700

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett said he doesn't mind playing second fiddle to TE Rob Gronkowski this year. "I really don't mind being Robin, you know? So right now it's just working every day and just trying to get better. He's an excellent player, and I'm gonna be able to get a lot of single coverages with him," Bennett said. He has impressed in organized team activities this offseason as a newcomer with his size and athleticism.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett may be listed as the No. 2 tight end on the Pats' depth chart this year, but that doesn't mean he won't make a huge fantasy impact in his first season in New England. Expect the Patriots to use plenty of two-tight end sets. Bennett has been a dynamic pass-catching tight end the last few years with the Bears and Giants, and his value should remain high again in 2016. Consider him more of a low-end TE1 on draft day.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett dodges a bullet

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 19:42:51 -0700

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (knee) had a minor injury scare at one point in practice Wednesday, June 8, during minicamp. The veteran was attended to by the training staff, focusing on his left knee. After a brief absence he was able to return to drills and team work. Bennett worked with FB James Develin and fellow TEs A.J. Derby and Michael Williams on blocking drills.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett could still be a valuable fantasy option in the New England offense despite the presence of Rob Gronkowski, as you only need to go back to the days of Aaron Hernandez and know there is plenty of ball to go around. Still, he should be treated more as a TE2 or flex option at this point.

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 11:17:45 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady was working one-on-one with TE Martellus Bennett in the red zone during practice Tuesday, June 7.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots likely will use Bennett and Rob Gronkowski at the same time in 2016, which makes Bennett a valuable fantasy option. He should be considered a No. 2 tight end for most owners, but he could be a low-end No. 1 or a flex option against favorable matchups.
