Thu, 08 Mar 2018 12:56:51 -0800
Free-agent TE Martellus Bennett (Patriots) likely will not be an option for the Miami Dolphins this offseason.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett dealt with injuries last season but may still be able to find a starting job during free agency. He is a solid pass catcher when he is healthy and could be at least a No. 2 fantasy tight end in 2018.

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett is being released Wednesday, March 7, according to a source. Bennett would have been a salary cap hit of nearly $6.2 million.
Fantasy Tip: There will be a market for Bennett. He can produce as a TE1 if he's in the right situation, but he turns 31 years old in three days and may be over the hill.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett due roster bonus |
Fri, 09 Feb 2018 11:25:13 -0800
New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett is scheduled to receive a $2 million roster bonus March 14. The team would save $6.2 million in salary cap space if they release Bennett.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett's future with the team may depend on what Rob Gronkowski decides regarding retirement. Bennett is a solid tight end when he is healthy and could start for a team in 2018 if he becomes a free agent. He can be at least a No. 2 fantasy tight end and could be a starter depending on his role.

Patriots | Free agency decisions ahead for New England |
Mon, 05 Feb 2018 10:55:13 -0800
The New England Patriots face the prospect of losing several key free agents. The Patriots have to address key impending free agents in OTs Nate Solder, Cameron Fleming and LaAdrian Waddle, along with RB Rex Burkhead, WR Danny Amendola, CB Malcolm Butler, WR/ST Matthew Slater and RB Dion Lewis. New England is projected to have approximately $17 million in salary cap space. TE Dwayne Allen, TE Martellus Bennett, DT Alan Branch, LB David Harris and RB Mike Gillislee all could be released to create more cap space.

Mon, 27 Nov 2017 14:03:05 -0800
New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder, hamstring) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Nov. 27, according to a source.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett's weird and whacky season has finally ceased. This won't have much of an impact on the fantasy landscape in New England. Rob Gronkwoski will continue to get his and is the No. 1 fantasy tight end as long as he's healthy.

Sun, 26 Nov 2017 05:57:36 -0800
New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder, hamstring) will not play in Week 12's game against the Miami Dolphins.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett was listed as doubtful on the injury report after being held out of the team's two most recent practice sessions during the week, so his deactivation comes as no surprise. When healthy, he should be considered a TE2 in deeper fantasy leagues.

Sun, 19 Nov 2017 12:28:56 -0800
New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (hamstring, shoulder) is officially active for the team's Week 11 game.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett caught three passes for 38 yards in his first game back with the Patriots last week and probably will see limited targets again this week. He should be considered a No. 2 tight end in most leagues.

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder, hamstring) was limited in practice on Friday, Nov. 17, and is considered questionable for Week 11 against the Oakland Raiders.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett was able to play last week in his return to the team despite his shoulder injury. Look for the team's No. 2 tight end to be in action. However, he is only worth a look in deeper fantasy formats as long as Rob Gronkowski is healthy.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett limited again at practice |
Thu, 16 Nov 2017 16:52:01 -0800
New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (hamstring, shoulder) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Nov. 16.
Fantasy Tip: In his first game since re-joining the Patriots, Bennett managed to catch all three of his targets for 38 yards, but that's about the most you can expect from the 30-year-old with Gronk around. Thus, Bennett is simply a TE2 that is more of a dart toss than anything else.

Wed, 15 Nov 2017 17:06:06 -0800
New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (hamstring, shoulder) was limited during practice Wednesday, Nov. 15.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett likely will continue to play despite his shoulder injury and could see a decent amount of targets against the Oakland Raiders. Owners in most leagues should consider Bennett a No. 2 fantasy tight end and can keep him on the bench this week.

The Green Bay Packers are expected to go after the signing bonus of TE Martellus Bennett, who was released last week due to a failure to reportedly disclose a pre-existing medical condition, according to multiple sources. It is uncertain if the Packers are seeking repayment of the entire $6.3 million signing bonus or the $4.2 million prorated portion of the three-year, $21 milliion contract. Green Bay has not officially filed the grievance against Bennett, who is now a member of the New England Patriots, but they have more than a month to do so.

Fri, 10 Nov 2017 16:23:15 -0800
New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder) plans to travel with the team for their Week 9 game against the Denver Broncos but his status for the game remains uncertain.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett is listed as questionable for the game because of his shoulder injury, so owners should check the inactive list for a final decision. He should be familiar with the offense since he played for the Patriots last season. Owners probably should avoid him since he is may be limited.

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder) was cut by the Green Bay Packers because of a torn rotator cuff, according to sources. He could try to play through it or could land on Injured Reserve.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett is a TE2 in fantasy, and he's probably not worth picking up now with the possibility of him playing up in the air.

Thu, 09 Nov 2017 13:33:02 -0800
Former Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett was claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots Thursday, Nov. 9, according to a source.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett played well for the Patriots last season and should enter the lineup once he is fully healthy. He should receive some targets during game but will be splitting the targets with several other pass catchers. He can be owned in most leagues but should be seen as a No. 2 tight end most weeks but could have more value if Chris Hogan misses extended time.

Wed, 08 Nov 2017 12:41:27 -0800
Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder) was sidelined during practice Wednesday, Nov. 8.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett has largely been a non-factor for the Packers this season, even when Aaron Rodgers was playing. He has exceeded 50 yards in a game just once and has yet to score. Bennett can be avoided altogether.

Wed, 08 Nov 2017 11:36:38 -0800
Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 10 against the Chicago Bears and is still seeking opinions on his shoulder injury.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett has been one of fantasy football's bigger disappointments this season, and much of that happened when Aaron Rodgers was still healthy. He can be cut in the few leagues in which owners may have been holding onto him. Richard Rodgers and Lance Kendricks will fill in again this week, with the latter being the slightly better TE2 option for owners.

Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder) did not participate in practice Saturday, Nov. 4, and is listed as doubtful for Week 9.

Packers | Martellus Bennett sits again |
Fri, 03 Nov 2017 14:10:15 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder) did not participate in practice Friday, Nov. 3.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett's status for Week 9 is uncertain at this point, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. He has not been a big factor in the passing game this season and has seen his value drop with Brett Hundley as the starting quarterback. Owners should consider using other tight end in their lineups even if Bennett is active for the game.

Packers | Martellus Bennett misses another practice |
Fri, 03 Nov 2017 09:38:35 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett (shoulder) was unable to practice first third straight day Friday Nov. 3.
Fantasy Tip: At this point, it seems highly unlikely Bennett will play on Monday night against the Detroit Lions in Week 9. The loss of Aaron Rodgers likely removed whatever chance Bennett had of turning around his slow start, and this injury obviously isn't helping him build chemistry with Brett Hundley. Owners who have yet to move on from Bennett probably can use this as a good excuse to do so.

Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett announced on social media Saturday, Oct. 28, that he will likely retire after the 2017 season.

Sun, 22 Oct 2017 15:04:44 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett caught two passes for 17 yards against the New Orleans Saints in Week 7.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett's fantasy value will take a hit with Brett Hundley as the new quarterback, but he should be able to post better numbers in the upcoming weeks. Owners probably should consider him a No. 2 fantasy tight end at this point.

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 16:00:56 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett posted two catches for 22 yards on four targets in the Week 6 loss against the Minnesota Vikings.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett's fantasy value takes a hit with Aaron Rodgers checking out of the game early due to a collarbone injury. As long as Rodgers is out and Brett Hundley is starting, all pass catches in Green Bay take a fantasy hit.

Packers | GB wants to go to Martellus Bennett earlier |
Tue, 03 Oct 2017 09:03:22 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett will likely be more involved in the offense earlier in games moving forward, according to quarterback Aaron Rodgers. "We've got to get Marty involved early. He's a talented player for us, and we've got to continue to find ways to get him going. We just have to keep finding ways to get him involved early in the game. He's a dynamic player for us," Rodgers said.
Fantasy Tip: Although this kind of realization means the team realizes one of its top players isn't getting the ball enough, fantasy owners have to like the fact Rodgers acknowledges it. It's not like Bennett hasn't been involved - his 17 catches through four games are tied for seventh among all tight ends - but he has only one first-quarter catch and four first-half receptions all season. Don't be surprised if Bennett gets rolling a bit earlier in Week 5 versus the Dallas Cowboys.

Thu, 28 Sep 2017 23:05:46 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett collected six receptions (on seven targeted passes) for 39 yards in the team's Thursday Night Football game against the Chicago Bears.
Fantasy Tip: Twenty-six of Bennett's 39 yards came on one play, meaning his other five catches covered just 13 yards. Bennett has worked almost exclusively underneath thus far, but his 28 targets (seven per game) suggest better days are ahead.

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 19:30:43 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett posted three receptions for just 12 yards on four targets in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett took a bit of a back seat to Lance Kendricks in this one, as he was outperformed by his fellow tight end and Kendricks even found the end zone. However, Bennett is still the tight end to target for fantasy purposes going forward. The Packers host the Bears in Week 4 on Thursday night.

Packers | Martellus Bennett struggling with fundamentals? |
Tue, 19 Sep 2017 19:33:15 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett finished with five catches for 47 yards in a Week 2 loss to the Atlanta Falcons but committed four drops - a problem offensive coordinator Edgar Bennett believes is rooted in fundamentals. "It really just always goes back to being fundamentally sound, trusting his training. He has really good hands. We just have to be fundamentally sound in those situations, not allowing the ball to cross your eyes, things like that, extending for the football," Bennett told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Fantasy Tip: The good news is only two tight ends - Jason Witten (22) and Zach Ertz (18) - have been targeted more often than Bennett (17). The bad news is Bennett only has eight catches for 90 yards so far. While it is troubling Bennett would be struggling with fundamentals in his age-30 season, his track record is far too good to believe he won't eventually get things figured out. Owners should stick it out with him and buy low if possible.

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 21:58:04 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett posted five receptions for 47 yards on a game-high 11 targets in Week 2 at Atlanta.
Fantasy Tip: Aaron Rodgers looked to Bennett early and often, but especially once Jordy Nelson went down in the first half with a quadriceps injury. If Nelson is forced to miss time it is good news for the fantasy appeal of Bennett going into Week 3 against Cincinnati.

Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett was fined $9,115 by the National Football League for his unnecessary roughness penalty in Week 1's game against the Seattle Seahawks. He gave LB K.J. Wright a two-handed shove after Wright tackled QB Aaron Rodgers on a fourth-quarter scramble for a first down.
Fantasy Tip: Bennett finished his first game in a Packer uniform with three receptions for 43 yards. He should be viewed as a low-end TE1 in the majority of fantasy formats.

Green Bay Packers TE Martellus Bennett (leg) suffered an apparent leg injury after a non-contact fall in practice Friday, July 28. Bennett required assistance to stand, limping away as he grabbed his left leg.
Fantasy Tip: Keep a close eye on this one. Non-contact injuries have a storied history of taking out players for extended time. Bennett is a tough guy and hopefully escaped without serious injury. He is a fringe TE1 as a matchup play if this turns out to be nothing.

Packers | Green Bay has embraced TE in red zone |
Tue, 11 Jul 2017 20:02:30 -0700
Green Bay Packers TEs Andrew Quarless (13) and Richard Rodgers (14) ranked among the team's top three players in red zone targets in 2014 in 2015, respectively, before Jared Cook's injury-plagued 2016 campaign ruined the streak. Martellus Bennett signed a three-year, $21 million contract to be the team's top tight end in the offseason.
Fantasy Tip: There seems to be a notion Aaron Rodgers doesn't throw to his tight ends nearly enough, but owners need to keep in mind the last time he had someone as talented as Bennett was when Jermichael Finley was healthy in 2011. Bennett is being drafted like a low-end TE1, but he has arguably the best shot among tight ends drafted after the first four or five rounds to compete with the likes of Rob Gronkowski, Travis Kelce and Jordan Reed.
