Bears | Brandon Marshall hopes TE opens pass game

Wed, 17 Jul 2013 19:09:03 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Brandon Marshall said Tuesday, July 16, that he hopes the offseason addition of TE Martellus Bennett will take some of the receiving pressure off him. Marshall had career highs with 118 receptions, 194 targets and 1,508 yards. The Bears receiver with the next highest number of targets was WR Earl Bennett, with 49. Marshall feels the wear and tear might have led to his offseason hip surgery. "I am (looking forward to having more weapons)," Marshall said. "It was tough sledding last year. I think that's why I had to have surgery. I had 2-3 guys on me every single play, but bringing in big boy Martellus, I don't think the league really knows how good he is."

Fantasy Tip: Marshall will still see plenty of targets and receptions, making him a bona fide No. 1 fantasy wide receiver in all formats. Sure, his numbers won't be as high as they were in 2012, but he remains a Top 10 fantasy option at his position.

Bears | Sign Martellus Bennett

Tue, 12 Mar 2013 13:00:07 -0700

The Chicago Bears will sign TE Martellus Bennett (Giants) Tuesday, Mar. 12. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: For Jay Cutler and new offensive-minded head coach Marc Trestman, Bennett provides protection and playmaking ability at what has been an erratic position in Chicago. Bennett, who emerged as a red zone threat while teasing a breakout last year, ranks as a borderline fantasy starter with the upside of an elite option. He's in a fine situation to grow. This also gives Cutler a stronger case in his value as a fringe fantasy starter.
