Bears | Martellus Bennett may not return

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 07:11:22 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) is unlikely to return to the team next season. Multiple sources told the Chicago Tribune that Bennett had a temperamental outburst during practice leading up to Thanksgiving Day game and had been growing increasingly moody as his role in the offense evolved. Bennett's targets decreased from 11.6 per game in October to 5.8 in November. Bennett has two years left on his contract, but he has no guaranteed money remaining.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett is out for the season with a ribs injury. Zach Miller ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) had just one catch for six yards last week and isn't a great FantasyScore option this week against the Washington Redskins.

Bears | Martellus Bennett placed on IR

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 12:30:26 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Dec. 8, as he is dealing with fractured ribs. Free-agent TE Rob Housler (Browns) was subsequently signed.

Fantasy Tip: Zach Miller ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) should take over the lead tight end role for the Bears with Bennett out. He's a decent flyer pick for FantasyScore lineups since he'll be starting and he's still cheap, but his Week 14 opponent, the Washington Redskins, has only given up two touchdowns to tight ends all year.

Bears | Martellus Bennett day-to-day

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 14:18:44 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (rib) remains day-to-day, according to head coach John Fox. Bennett played in Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers but had just three catches for 14 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett isn't close to full health and could continue to suffer as a result for his fantasy owners. A matchup against the Washington Redskins in Week 14 shouldn't have you too hopeful that he'll break out, either.

Bears | Martellus Bennett to play Sunday

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 07:41:13 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) will play in Week 13's game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) was listed as probable on the team's most recent injury report despite dealing with cracked ribs. He participated in full practices during the week and should be viewed as a low-end TE1 or high-end TE2 versus San Francisco, with Marquess Wilson (foot) out and Eddie Royal (knee) expected to miss the game.

Bears | Martellus Bennett, Jay Cutler probable

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 15:48:31 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) and QB Jay Cutler (illness) are both listed as probable for Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers. Bennett practiced in full all week, while Cutler was limited Friday, Dec. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) could return excellent value in daily formats with Marquess Wilson out and Eddie Royal expected to miss another game. Bennett would effectively become Cutler's second receiving target, especially with Zach Miller beat up, too. Cutler ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) is quietly having one of his better seasons, but his ceiling remains limited on FantasyScore, especially with several receiving options sidelined.

Bears | Martellus Bennett has full practice

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 16:24:13 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 3.

Fantasy Tip: The San Francisco 49ers have only surrendered three touchdowns to tight ends this season, but Bennett ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) should still be regarded as a low-end TE1 to high-end TE2 in Week 13.

Bears | Martellus Bennett practices

Wed, 02 Dec 2015 11:36:20 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) practiced in full Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) is a solid upper-tier tight end in a time where there aren't many healthy options among the top tiers. He's worth consideration on FantasyScore if he plays against the San Francisco 49ers.

Bears | Martellus Bennett at practice

Mon, 30 Nov 2015 11:13:19 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) was present at the open portion of practice Monday, Nov. 30.

Fantasy Tip: There was no injury update, but the fact that Bennett was even there is encouraging. Bennett will have to be tracked throughout the week, and if he misses another game, Zach Miller would make for a nice flyer on FantasyScore in Week 13.

Thu, 26 Nov 2015 16:22:18 -0800

Bears | Martellus Bennett out for Week 12

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 11:47:29 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) has been ruled out for Week 12 Thursday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: You'd imagine Matt Forte's (knee) return would pick up some of the slack in the passing game. Zach Miller ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) had three touchdowns combined in Week 9 and Week 10 and had three grabs for 47 yards last week. He's a low-end flyer against the Green Bay Packers on FantasyScore.

Bears | Three Bears limited Tuesday

Tue, 24 Nov 2015 12:28:59 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (groin), RB Matt Forte (knee) and TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) were limited in practice Tuesday, Nov. 24.

Fantasy Tip: All three players are question marks heading into Week 12. Jeffery ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) has been battling injuries off and on all year; he may be the biggest question mark. All three need to be monitored before setting FantasyScore lineups this week. Marquess Wilson ($3,200, 6.4%), Jeremy Langford ($7,300, 14.6%) and Zach Miller ($2,800, 5.6%) would be the primary beneficiaries if Jeffery, Forte and Bennett were to sit.

Bears | Three Bears miss practice Monday

Mon, 23 Nov 2015 13:43:39 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs), RB Ka'Deem Carey (head) and WR Eddie Royal (knee) did not practice Monday, Nov. 23. The Bears didn't actually practice Monday, so the designations are an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: With a short week on tap, all three players are risky on FantasyScore. We don't expect Royal or Carey to play at all. Bennett is trickier, and you'll have to keep a close eye on his progress leading up to Thursday. If he does play, he's not a bad FantasyScore selection against a Packers team allowing the seventh-most PPR fantasy points (15.9) to tight ends per game this year.

Bears | Martellus Bennett injured his ribs

Mon, 23 Nov 2015 11:01:28 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) injured his ribs in the Week 11 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett finished with a disappointing two catches (six targets) for 26 yards in the game against Denver, a top defense in the NFL. If he isn't too badly injured, he could be a strong play on FantasyScore against the Green Bay Packers Thursday. The Packers allow 15.9 PPR fantasy points per game to tight ends, and Jay Cutler figures to be throwing a lot in that one.

Bears | Martellus Bennett quiet in win

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 18:49:39 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett posted just three receptions for 18 yards in the Week 10 game against the St. Louis Rams. He was targeted three times.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett was outperformed by Zachary Miller at the tight end position. While Jay Cutler and the Bears used the short and intermediate routes, for some reason Bennett was left in the cold.

Bears | Martellus Bennett posts 57 yards, TD

Mon, 09 Nov 2015 21:52:02 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett scored eight receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown in the Week 9 game against the San Diego Chargers Monday, Nov. 9. He was targeted nine times.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) found the end zone for the first time since Oct. 4 against the Oakland Raiders. His yardage total was his third-highest of the season, and he could see plenty of targets if Matt Forte and Eddie Royal continue to miss time.

Bears | Martellus Bennett having off year

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 15:49:23 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett has been less productive so far this year. He has only caught 13 passes the last three weeks and only caught three passes last week. Bennett said being asked to block has caused him to be less involved in the passing game.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) has been publicly frustrated with his lack of production this year. It's not that he's having a bad season; he's just not nearly as productive as he was last year. He's still a threat in Chicago's passing game, but expectations should be tempered.

Broncos | Denver TEs not cutting it

Fri, 23 Oct 2015 16:51:05 -0700

Denver Broncos TEs Owen Daniels and Virgil Green have combined for just 17 catches on 34 targets for 113 yards and two touchdowns this year. At this time last year, TE Julius Thomas was targeted 36 times for 28 catches, 304 yards and nine touchdowns. Daniels has always done well in a similar offense but is averaging only 6.1 yards per catch, which is four yards fewer than his career low.

If Daniels doesn't improve, the Broncos may be forced to look for a trade for a player like San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis, St. Louis Rams TE Jared Cook or Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett. WR Jordan Norwood is improving in the slot role, but QB Peyton Manning doesn't fully trust him yet. Norwood hasn't been targeted more than three times since Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Daniels ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has been a little beat up but hasn't been able to get separation from opposing linebackers at his age. He is basically touchdown-dependent, making him a weak FantasyScore option. Green ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) is mainly used for run blocking and can be ignored everywhere.

Bears | Martellus Bennett ready to play

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 08:54:13 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (quadriceps) is officially active for the Week 6 game against the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) will be on the field despite injuring his quadriceps during practice this week. Bennett should see close to his normal workload if he does not suffer any setbacks and could be a starting option.

Bears | Martellus Bennett expected to play

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 07:13:05 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (quadriceps) is expected to play in the Week 6 against the Detroit Lions even though he injured his quadriceps during practice this week, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Bennett ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) will be limited during the game, but he should see a solid amount of targets during the game. The Lions allow the sixth most fantasy points to tight ends this season, which makes Bennett an attractive starting option for owners.

Bears | Martellus Bennett questionable

Fri, 16 Oct 2015 11:02:20 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (quadriceps) suffered a quadriceps injury in practice Thursday, Oct. 15, and is questionable for Week 6. Bennett didn't practice Friday, Oct. 16.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't sound good for Bennett ($6,500, 13.0% of cap) this week against the Detroit Lions. Eddie Royal (ankle) is expected to come back. His $3,600 (7.2% of cap) price tag looks pretty solid on FantasyScore to pick up the slack.

Bears | Martellus Bennett struggles in Week 5

Mon, 12 Oct 2015 13:40:17 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett was targeted 11 times in the Week 5 game against the Kansas City Chiefs but caught only four passes for 32 yards during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett will still be a solid part in the passing game but could lose some targets when Alshon Jeffery and Eddie Royal returns to the lineup. Bennett will be facing the Detroit Lions in Week 6 and could be a solid starting option.

Bears | Martellus Bennett busy in Week 4

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 17:39:38 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett had 11 catches for 83 yards and a touchdown in a 22-20 win over the Oakland Raiders in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) benefitted from a friendly matchup and the return of Jay Cutler ($6,100, 12.2% of cap), and given Chicago's unproven group of receivers, Bennett should remain a stable option at FantasyScore as long as Cutler is under center.

Bears | Start Martellus Bennett in Week 4

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 21:06:54 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett faces a very favorable matchup in Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders have been carved up by opposing tight ends in the first three weeks, giving up 305 receiving yards and a league-high five touchdowns, including 105 yards and a touchdown against Cleveland Browns journeyman TE Gary Barnidge in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: With the Bears expected to use Jimmy Clausen in place of the injured Jay Cutler again, the passing radius will be much smaller for the quarterback and that benefits the tight end and running backs in the receiving game. Look for Bennett ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) to post a big stat line in Week 4 for FantasyScore players.

Bears | Martellus Bennett a good bet to score

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 21:24:06 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett faces the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3, and the Seahawks have allowed touchdowns to opposing tight ends in each of the first two games of the season.

Fantasy Tip: With Jay Cutler sidelined, Bennett ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) could be leaned on heavily as a safety valve for Jimmy Clausen ($4,600, 9.2% of cap). He is a viable starter at FantasyScore.

Bears | Martellus Bennett has so-so day

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 16:43:57 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett posted four receptions for 48 yards in the Week 2 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) did very little after finding the end zone in Week 1. With Jay Cutler leaving due to injury, that did not help, and Bennett's FantasyScore value going forward might take a hit if he is stuck with Jimmy Clausen rather than Cutler. Stay tuned.

Bears | Martellus Bennett likes September

Sat, 12 Sep 2015 18:22:02 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett faces the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Sept 13, and he has scored a touchdown in 10 of the last 12 games he has played in the month of September.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) should be in line for a sizeable workload with Brandon Marshall ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) now with the Jets and Alshon Jeffery ($6,600 13.2% of cap) questionable with an injury, and he should make a strong option at FantasyScore in Week 1.

Bears | Martellus Bennett confident

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 19:54:05 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett said he isn't worried about his production declining because of the time he missed while protesting his contract. "Some terminology and still learning some things like that, but overall … I don't think anyone has the offense down," Bennett said Thursday, July 30. "I may be a leg behind, but I'm a pretty quick learner."

Fantasy Tip: Bennett is coming off a strong year, and despite the new offense in Chicago, he is a safe pick as mid-level TE1.

Bears | Jay Cutler works out with teammates

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 09:08:19 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler worked out with some of his offensive teammates at Vanderbilt University this week. WR Eddie Royal, WR Kevin White and TE Martellus Bennett were among the players in attendance.

Fantasy Tip: Cutler has had some down performances the last few seasons but should have several weapons to work with this season. Cutler probably is not a starting quarterback in fantasy at this point but could be a solid No. 2 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Bears | Martellus Bennett at minicamp

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 17:41:09 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett participated in minicamp practice Tuesday, June 16, after skipping the first three weeks of organized team activities. Bennett told reporters he expects to be at training camp on reporting day in late July.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett is a safe top-five tight end selection, even with the Bears implementing a new offense.

Bears | Martellus Bennett expected at minicamp

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 12:34:35 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is expected to participate in minicamp this week after skipping organized team activities in previous weeks. Bennett has wanted a new contract.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett may be ready to get down to business, but that doesn't mean he's happy with his current contract now. As long as he plays and is healthy, he's still a top-five tight end candidate for the 2015 season.

Bears | Coach unsure of Martellus Bennett's attendance

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 23:46:57 -0700

Chicago Bears coach John Fox is not sure whether TE Martellus Bennett will be at mandatory minicamp when it opens shortly. Bennett is pushing for a raise from the $4.9 million base he's scheduled to earn in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Now things could get serious for Bennett. The team can fine him if he misses the June 16-18 camp, so this situation bears watching. Bennett will be a decent TE2 presence in most fantasy drafts, but if he intends to hold out for a new deal it could get dicey.

Bears | Martellus Bennett still not at OTAs

Wed, 03 Jun 2015 13:07:03 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is still absent from organized team activities. The Bears will be able to fine Bennett if he misses mandatory minicamp, which starts later this month. Bennett has made it clear that he wants a new contract.

Fantasy Tip: The OTAs are voluntary, so Bennett is safe for now. When it will really get interesting is when he could possibly start being fined in a couple weeks. He's one of the better tight ends when he's healthy and determined, amassing 90 catches for 916 yards and 6 touchdowns last year. Assuming he returns and plays, Bennett has top-five TE potential in 2015.

Bears | Martellus Bennett skipping OTAs

Wed, 27 May 2015 18:34:03 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is not participating in organized team activities since he is looking for a new contract.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett does not need to take part in the practices, but the team likely wants him to attend since there is a new coaching staff. Bennett was one of the better tight ends in fantasy in 2014 and could be an option in the middle to late rounds of drafts this season.

Bears | Coach expects Martellus Bennett to stay

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 11:38:35 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett is not expected to be traded during the 2015 NFL Draft, according to head coach John Fox. Fox said he has talked with Bennett and indicated that Bennett is part of the team.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett is reportedly looking for a contract extension, which is why his name may be coming up in trade talks. Bennett recorded career highs in receptions (90), receiving yards (916) and touchdowns (six) in 2014 and should be a start most weeks next season in fantasy leagues.

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett was the subject of trade talks between the Bears and Seattle Seahawks before Seattle traded for TE Jimmy Graham this offseason. Bennett is reportedly currently being shopped.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett was a top-10 tight end in 2014, but seems to be out of favor with the Bears as he has not shown up for the beginning of their offseason program or for voluntary minicamp. Stay tuned to his situation throughout the offseason.

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett could be on the move since the Bears are entertaining trade offers for him, according to sources. Bennett is looking for a new contract from the Bears or from any team that acquires him.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett is coming off a fantastic season with 90 receptions, 916 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 16 games. Bennett likely will be a starter wherever he plays next season and should be a starting Fantasy tight end most weeks.

Bears | Martellus Bennett skipped program

Sat, 25 Apr 2015 12:32:11 -0700

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett did not participate in the voluntary offseason program, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett is coming off a career year in which he caught 90 passes for 916 yards and six touchdowns. The reasons for Bennett's absence are unclear, but he'll remain a top-ten fantasy tight end assuming he returns and stays healthy.

Bears | Martellus Bennett heavily involved

Thu, 04 Dec 2014 21:05:09 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett had a season-high 12 catches on 15 targets for 84 yards and a score in the team's 41-28 loss to the Dallas Cowboys Thursday, Dec. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett's numbers were likely inflated a bit by an injury to Brandon Marshall and a pass-happy approach that resulted from an early deficit that the Bears faced, but he has logged 20 catches over the past two games. If Marshall is forced to miss time, Bennett could be a sneaky play at tight end at FantasyScore.

Wed, 03 Dec 2014 10:29:30 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (foot) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 3, and is listed as probable for Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett is coming off a terrific Week 13 performance and should be able to play this week. Bennett has a price tag of $5,800 on FantasyScore and could be a solid option for owners since the Dallas Cowboys have struggled against tight ends this season.

Mon, 01 Dec 2014 13:54:15 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (foot) was limited during practice Monday, Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett had a strong game in Week 13 with 109 yards receiving and will look to continue to have a role in the passing against a Dallas Cowboys defense that has struggled against tight ends this season. Bennett should be an attractive option on FantasyScore if owners are comfortable with his price tag.

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 13, after sitting out Wednesday, Nov. 13. He is expected to play in Week 11 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett will cost you $5,500 against the Vikes this weekend at FantasyScore. Now that it looks like he's a lock to play, he's not a bad option for your tight end spot.

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Fri, 07 Nov 2014 12:32:08 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) did not participate in practice Friday, Nov. 7, and is listed as questionable for Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett has been one of the Bears' top options in their passing game, but owners will need to check the inactive list to see if he is playing. Bennett will be a risky option because of the injury, but could be a solid starting option if owners are willing to spend $5,800 on FantasyScore.

Thu, 06 Nov 2014 13:46:23 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 6. Bennett has sore ribs but is still expected to play Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett's ($5,800, 11.6) opponent this week, the Green Bay Packers, has allowed just two touchdowns to tight ends this year, so Bennett may not be too safe a play anyway.
