Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (neck) is doing just fine in his rehab from spinal fusion surgery, according to his agent, Blake Baratz. "Jermichael is doing great, is working out, running routes, catching balls, and feels no different than he did pre-injury," Baratz said. "His fusion has to fully heal before he is 100 percent ready for contact, but we are all anticipating that occurring in the coming weeks. Jermichael is a rare breed that creates a mismatch for defenses. Whenever you have a player that can do that he is a valuable asset."

"He needs surgery, and it's herniated in (the C3 and C4 vertebrae) I think it's gonna be a Nick Collins deal. He's definitely not gonna play in Green Bay, I'd put my house on that."

I love Sundays. Based on the feedback I've received from doctors at this point, the question is not if I'll play again, but when." He will meet with more doctors this week before it's determined if he will have to be placed on the season-ending Injured Reserve. Finley's motor skills, coordination and balance are back to normal after he sustained a spinal cord contusion.
Fantasy Tip: The chances of Finley returning to play this year seem remote. Drop him from your roster if you need the room.

Wed, 23 Oct 2013 19:45:05 -0700
Cleveland Browns FS Tashaun Gipson said Wednesday, Oct. 23, that he has reached out to Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (spine) via text message, but he wouldn't reveal the content or whether Finley responded. Finley suffered a spinal cord contusion when Gipson used his shoulder to hit Finley's helmet in the Week 7 game. "It was a scary feeling, scary sight, just seeing a guy's body limp like that out there," Gipson said. "You definitely never want to see something like that happen. To hear the latter effects of it, it's definitely unfortunate. All I can do is keep him in my prayers. I know he has family and he has kids. I've got kids. I know I wouldn't want one of my kids to see their dad like that."
Wed, 23 Oct 2013 14:56:43 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (spine) said he expects to be released from the hospital Thursday, Oct. 24. "You know Jermichael, he's a competitor; he definitely wants to play," TE Brandon Bostick said. "I definitely think he'll be back as soon as he can."
Wed, 23 Oct 2013 12:56:42 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (spine) remains in the hospital but continues to improve from the bruised spine he suffered in Week 7. Finley continues to seek opinions from other specialists on his condition. Putting him on season-ending Injured Reserve seems to be a real option for the club at this juncture. "We're going to wait until everything comes in," McCarthy said about Finley and his test results. "We'll do our due diligence and, obviously, not be premature on anything. We'll do what's in the best interest of Jermichael." Finley has already been ruled out for Week 8.
Fantasy Tip: We wouldn't blame you if you outright dropped Finley for another tight end option this week. The uncertainty surrounding his condition doesn't speak well for a possible return this season, and the four- to six-week timetable is probably being generous.
Wed, 23 Oct 2013 05:23:27 -0700
A highly regarded spinal surgeon said that Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (neck) is unlikely to return without having spinal surgery. Wellington Hsu, an endowed professor at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and practicing surgeon with offices in Chicago, said that in most cases when a football player suffers spinal cord bruising it is a sign there is something amiss in the spinal canal that must be corrected. "If everything is normal there should be enough space in the spinal canal to absorb the force of that hit," Hsu said. "If there isn't enough space, then the spinal canal doesn't take the jolt very well."
Tue, 22 Oct 2013 11:51:25 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (spine) is expected to be released from the hospital within the next 24 hours and he'll likely miss at least four to six weeks, according to sources. Finley isn't likely to need surgery, and he should be able to resume his career. He could visit with more neurosurgeons and specialists regarding his spine injury. Doctors think his injury was caused by extreme torque and not by spinal compression. There is still a possibility that the Packers place Finley on season-ending Injured Reserve if they don't want to risk bringing him back this season.
Fantasy Tip: With an injury this severe, there are no guarantees that Finley will return at all this season. If you need the roster space to add tight end depth, you may need to cut bait on Finley. Andrew Quarless will step up in Finley's place and could be a decent backup option in this offense.

Wed, 16 Oct 2013 11:41:30 -0700
Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said the team will know WR James Jones' (knee) status for Week 7 by Friday, Oct. 18. McCarthy indicated Jones is very positive about his rehab.
Fantasy Tip: There's a good chance that Jones will be a game-time decision in Week 7 against the Cleveland Browns. Jermichael Finley will probably be the biggest beneficiary in the passing game, even if Jones suits up.
Tue, 15 Oct 2013 15:30:25 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley may line up as a wide receiver starting in Week 7 against the Cleveland Browns with WR Randall Cobb (fibula) on the Injured Reserve and WR James Jones' (knee) availability in question.
Fantasy Tip: Cobb will be out until the final month of the season, so Finley's usage and targets will go up rather significantly, assuming Green Bay doesn't shift to a heavy run-centric game. Jarrett Boykin deserves consideration as a waiver wire addition; he'll be lined up often in the team's three-receiver sets without Cobb around.
Tue, 15 Oct 2013 09:05:58 -0700
The Green Bay Packers were forced to use mostly two-tight end, two-receiver, one-back sets when WRs James Jones (shin) and Randall Cobb (knee) were injured and left the Week 6 game. TE Jermichael Finley had all three of his catches for 75 yards in the second half of the contest with Jones and Cobb absent, meaning he could take on a much bigger role moving forward. "I don't know that his role will change," offensive coordinator Tom Clements said. "He's always been a focal point of the offense. Depending if Randall or James or both aren't in there then obviously he may get more opportunities, but we try to get him as many opportunities as we can based on how the defense is playing. Whoever's in there is going to have to come up and make plays. I'm certain he'll make his share."
WR Jarrett Boykin dropped two passes and caught just one of his six targets after Jones and Cobb left the game. The Packers may add WR Reggie Dunn off the practice squad or sign WR Tavarres King off the practice squad of the Denver Broncos. QB Aaron Rodgers had his lowest completion percentage (53.1 percent on 17 of 32 passing) against the Baltimore Ravens.
Fantasy Tip: Finley should be expected to receive more targets with Cobb out, and Jorday Nelson will likely see a similar boost in value. The Packers may also have to rely more on handing the ball off to Eddie Lacy. Either way you look at it, it would seem that this hurts the stock of Aaron Rodgers, too.
Mon, 14 Oct 2013 13:22:27 -0700
Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said WR Randall Cobb (knee) will miss several weeks because of the knee injury he suffered Week 6.
Fantasy Tip: With Cobb missing time, Jarrett Boykin and Jermichael Finley likely will receive bigger roles in the passing game. Owners in deeper leagues could consider adding Boykin as a flex option. Finley was performing well before Cobb's injury, but now should be seen as a safe starting tight end option each week. James Jones could also see a bump in value depending on when he will be able to return from his injury.
Sun, 13 Oct 2013 15:59:02 -0700
Green Bay Packers beat writer Tom Silverstein suggests the team could use TE Jermichael Finley as the team's third wide receiver if WRs Randall Cobb (knee) and James Jones (knee, shin) are sidelined for any length of time. Recently released WR Jeremy Ross might also be an option.
Fri, 04 Oct 2013 14:32:19 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (concussion) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 4, and is listed as probable for Week 5.

Wed, 02 Oct 2013 13:34:04 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (concussion) practiced in full Wednesday, Oct. 2, and said he expects to play against the Detroit Lions in Week 5. "It took several days," Finley said. "I took my bye week, rested up a little, came back in Monday and did several tests, went to the hospital and did a couple tests. It's a long haul. You have to do several things to get back, and you have to respect the league for doing it. It's much respect from me."
Fantasy Tip: It's great news that Finley is practicing fully on a Wednesday. Unless he suffers a setback later this week, you should have him in your starting lineup if he's playing.

Sun, 22 Sep 2013 16:32:12 -0700
Updating a previous report, the Green Bay Packers reported after the Week 3 game against the Cincinnati Bengals that TE Jermichael Finley (concussion) suffered a concussion.
Fantasy Tip: The good news for Finley and his fantasy owners is that the team has a bye in Week 4, so he'll have two full weeks to get back to pass the league's concussion protocol testing and get back to 100 percent.
Sun, 22 Sep 2013 11:08:14 -0700
Updating an earlier report, Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (concussion) will not return to the Week 3 game due to a concussion.
Fantasy Tip: Finley took a blow to the head and was extremely wobbly after he got up. It's premature to assume, but the fact that he wasn't able to get off the field and his demeanor leads us to believe he may miss some time. Andrew Quarless will take over, but he presents a downgrade at the position.

Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (head) was taken to the locker room for evaluation after suffering an apparent head injury during the team's Week 3 game.
Fri, 20 Sep 2013 12:49:16 -0700
Green Bay Packers TE Jermichael Finley (toe) was limited in practice Friday, Sept. 20, and is probable in Week 3.
Fantasy Tip: There is no reason to believe Finley will not play in Week 3. With the way the Packers like to move the ball around, get him into your lineups.
