Panthers | Jonathan Stewart rests

Wed, 07 Dec 2016 14:28:57 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (rest) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Fantasy Tip: It was simply a day of rest for Stewart. He'll be fine for Week 14 in a plus matchup against the San Diego Chargers. San Diego has given up 16 total touchdowns to running backs this year, tied for second most in the NFL behind the San Francisco 49ers.

Fri, 02 Dec 2016 18:30:24 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (non-injury) returned to practice and was a full participant Friday, Dec. 2, and he isn't listed on the Week 13 injury report.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart should be rested for the Week 13 matchup against Seattle. The Seahawks have a solid run defense, but Stewart's heavy workload should still allow him to produce low-end RB2 numbers.

Thu, 01 Dec 2016 20:24:47 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (non-injury) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart's steady workload should keep him in the RB2 conversation, but his ceiling is limited against a Seattle defense allowing just 3.5 yards per carry.

Panthers | No practice for Jonathan Stewart

Wed, 30 Nov 2016 18:58:31 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (rest) was held out of practice Wednesday, Nov. 30, but the absence was not injury related and simply rest.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart faces a rough stretch over the next few weeks, as he'll be facing top-notch rushing defenses for the remainder of the fantasy regular season and into the playoffs. Fantasy owners will want to treat him more as a low-end RB2 or even flex play.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart hits end zone twice

Sun, 27 Nov 2016 22:37:20 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart rushed 17 times for 96 yards with two touchdowns in the Week 12 game against the Oakland Raiders. He was targeted once in the pass game and he did not have a catch.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart just missed on 100 total yards from scrimmage, but he still had a productive day for his fantasy owners. He will have a difficult matchup on the road against the Seattle Seahawks on the road in Week 13, but he can still be trusted as a low-end RB2 in most fantasy leagues.

Wed, 16 Nov 2016 11:14:18 -0800

Fantasy Tip: Stewart has received some practice time off over the last few weeks but has been able to play. He has been held to 42 yards or less in each of the last two games and has not posted a 100-yard game this season. He can be a flex option for owners but is not a must-start player.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart absent from practice

Tue, 15 Nov 2016 09:48:32 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (undisclosed) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart didn't appear to suffer an injury in the Panthers' Week 10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, but this is something to keep an eye on with Carolina hosting the New Orleans Saints on Thursday. For now, owners should treat this as a rest day and pencil in Stewart as a low-end RB2. Cameron Artis-Payne would likely be called upon to start if J-Stew cannot go.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart quiet in loss

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 14:02:43 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart ran 13 times for 39 yards in Week 10 against the Kansas City Chiefs. He did not catch a pass.

Fantasy Tip: After scoring four times over two games, J-Stew has been invisible the past two weeks for trusting fantasy gamers. Said owners will be quite wary going forward, but a Week 11 matchup with the New Orleans Saints should help right the ship.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart set to play Week 10

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 12:15:49 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart returned to a full practice Friday, Nov. 11, and will start in Week 10 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart had a nice little run with two two-score games after Cam Newton came back from his concussion, but he is hard to trust in fantasy when he doesn't find the end zone despite his sometimes-heavy workloads because the Panthers choose not to use him much in the passing game. Consider him a low-end RB2 at best this week.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart sits again

Thu, 10 Nov 2016 12:22:48 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (non-injury) did not participate in practice Thursday, Nov. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart received another day off but should be fine for the team's Week 10 game. He has been a decent fantasy option this season because he is receiving most of the carries for the Panthers but is not posting great numbers. Owners should consider him a low-end No. 2 running back or a flex option in most leagues.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart has favorable matchup

Mon, 07 Nov 2016 20:18:39 -0800

Sun, 06 Nov 2016 20:02:25 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart rushed 15 times for 42 yards in the Week 9 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He was not targeted in the pass game.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that J-Stew stayed healthy, but the bad news is that he didn't do much against the Rams. He'll face the NFL's 27th-ranked rush defense when the Chiefs come calling in Week 10. Treat Stewart as a RB2 in most fantasy leagues for that matchup.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart has scored four touchdowns in his last two games and will continue to receive most of the carries in the running game. Stewart should be considered a No. 2 running back in most leagues because owners know what to expect from him most weeks.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart likely back Week 6

Sat, 08 Oct 2016 11:00:15 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) has already been ruled out for Week 5, but head coach Ron Rivera is "pretty comfortable" with him being ready for Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: The Panthers may choose to go easy on him considering the team has a Week 7 bye, but the matchup is juicy enough to consider him a RB2 for that matchup. In the unlikely event Cam Newton has a setback between now and then, he could even be a true featured back. Either way, he will be a recommended start next week.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart idle Friday

Fri, 07 Oct 2016 07:56:52 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) is out of practice Friday, Oct. 7.

Fantasy Tip: J-Stew is likely to miss the Week 5 tilt against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fozzy Whittaker and Cameron Artis-Payne combined for nine rushes for 18 yards last week. However, Whittaker caught nine balls for 86 yards in the game. Things will change with Derek Anderson likely to start, and the running game will have to be utilized against the Bucs. Whittaker has the edge as a flex play in PPR leagues, and CAP is a midrange flex option.

Thu, 29 Sep 2016 12:29:59 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) will not be able to play in Week 4, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Rivera indicated he is not sure about a possible timetable for Stewart.

Fantasy Tip: Cameron Artis-Payne and Fozzy Whittaker will both receive playing time at running back while Stewart is sidelined. Neither player posted great stats last week, but they were facing one of the better defenses in the NFL. Whittaker is probably a better option for owners in point-per-reception leagues, while Artis-Payne could be a flex option in some standard leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart likely will miss at least one more week because of the injury, so owners can avoid him. Panthers | Jonathan Stewart out of practice

Wed, 28 Sep 2016 09:36:16 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) is out of practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: J-Stew looks good when he's on the field, but every year it seems like a leg injury takes him out for weeks at a time. Cameron Artis-Payne rushed 12 times for 47 yards last week. Fozzy Whittaker had 22 rushing yards, but he had five grabs for 34 yards as well. Whittaker holds more value as a flex option against the Atlanta Falcons this week.

Fri, 23 Sep 2016 10:54:29 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings. Head coach Ron Rivera said he expects Stewart to miss two to three weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Cameron Artis-Payne is expected to serve as the lead back, but Fozzy Whittaker and Mike Tolbert will be heavily involved as well. Even with the rash of injuries at the running back position across the league last week, none of the aforementioned players should be considered anything more than a RB3 this week.

Panthers | CAR to use RB committee

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 07:32:56 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Fozzy Whittaker, RB Cameron Artis-Payne and FB Mike Tolbert will split carries by committee with RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) out, according to offensive coordinator Mike Shula.

Fantasy Tip: Whittaker and Payne could see the lion's share if one of them is hot. Both are flex options in fantasy. Tolbert figures to see short-yardage carries and doesn't have much fantasy luster except in TD-only leagues.

Panthers | Fozzy Whittaker the main back

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 13:41:45 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Fozzy Whittaker was in on 49 offensive snaps in Week 2 in light of RB Jonathan Stewart's (hamstring) early exit. RB Cameron Artis-Payne did not receive any snaps.

Fantasy Tip: Whittaker will be the Panthers' go-to running back assuming Stewart is out for Week 3. Whittaker ran for 100 yards and caught three passes for 31 yards last week. He and the Panthers face stiff competition in the Minnesota Vikings, though. View Whittaker as a low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 with added value in PPR leagues if Stewart can't play.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart undergoes MRI

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 19:04:31 -0700

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) was scheduled for an MRI Monday, Sept. 19, to determine the severity of the hamstring injury he suffered in Week 2 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: As mentioned earlier, head coach Ron Rivera said he expects J-Stew to be sidelined at least a week or two, so look for Fozzy Whittaker and Mike Tolbert to carry the load in Stewart's absence. Cameron Artis-Payne should also be up after being inactive the first two games. Whittaker is your best bet as a fantasy replacement.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart likely out for Week 3

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 10:23:34 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) is expected to miss "at least a week or two" after suffering a hamstring injury in a Week 2 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: Given his lengthy injury history and track record for recovery, owners can probably expect Stewart to miss at least two weeks. Fozzy Whittaker totaled 131 yards in relief Sunday, but Rivera was quick to talk up second-year running back Cameron Artis-Payne, who has been inactive the first two weeks. For Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings, expect the Panthers to go with a hot-hand approach with Whittaker getting the first shot to make an impression. In a difficult matchup, he's a low-floor and unexciting flex option.

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 06:10:34 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Cameron Artis-Payne has been a healthy scratch due to special teams, but if RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) misses time, Artis-Payne could see a big role on offense, according to head coach Ron Rivera.

Fantasy Tip: CAP is one to target on waivers this week until more is known about J-Stew.

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury during the team's Week 2 game and is considered questionable to return.

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 09:03:58 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (ankle) is officially active for the team's Week 2 game.
