Rockies | Gerardo Parra nearing rehab assignment

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 12:47:56 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Gerardo Parra (ankle) will run Thursday, July 21, and he wants to begin a rehab assignment Sunday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: Parra is worth stashing in the majority of seasonal leagues now that he's nearing a return. He plays his home games at hitter-friendly Coors Field and offers modest five-category upside. Scoop him up and hope for a strong finish to 2016.

Rockies | Gerardo Parra resumes running

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 17:04:26 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Gerardo Parra (ankle) participated in running drills Friday, July 8, for the first time since spraining his left ankle last month, according to manager Walt Weiss. "I still feel (it) a little bit, but I'm much, much better," Parra said.

Fantasy Tip: Parra was batting .263 with five home runs and 27 RBI through 63 games before getting hurt and is expected to require a rehab assignment prior to coming off the disabled list. He should remain stashed in NL-only and deep mixed fantasy leagues. OF Ryan Raburn will continue to see a decent amount of playing time in his absence, although he is better historically against left-handed pitching.

Rockies | Gerardo Parra in boot

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 08:30:45 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Gerardo Parra (ankle) received a cortisone injection and is in a walking boot after suffering a high left ankle sprain Tuesday, June 14. Parra is hoping he can return in two to three weeks. "There is no tear, no fracture, no tendon damage," Parra said.

Fantasy Tip: The injury looked much worse initially. Parra hasn't been terrible but hasn't been great, either, with half his games at Coors Field. He's sporting a .263/.274/.424 slash line with only five home runs and 27 RBI. Keep him stashed in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Ryan Raburn benefits the most in the short-term with everyday playing time but will mainly be useful only against left-handers, which he has tormented in his career.

Rockies | Gerardo Parra going on DL

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 15:31:15 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Gerardo Parra (ankle) will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a high left ankle sprain, and he'll spend a week in a walking boot. The Rockies haven't made a corresponding roster move.

Fantasy Tip: Parra is almost certainly to be out longer than 15 days with his ankle injury. He can be replaced in shallow mixed leagues. Ryan Raburn figures to see a big increase in fantasy value, as he's likely to start mostly every day in left field as a result. Raburn has a .258/.336/.515 slash line with six home runs and 16 RBI. He's a better play in fantasy leagues when he's facing a lefty, though, as he's typically destroyed southpaws in his career.

Rockies | Gerardo Parra likely hitting the DL

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 13:19:13 -0700

Updating a previous report, Colorado Rockies OF Gerardo Parra (ankle) has a left ankle sprain, and there is a "better than 50% chance" he will require a stint on the disabled list, according to manager Walt Weiss. Weiss added that X-rays were negative, but the team is waiting for Parra's MRI results before making a decision on whether he will be placed on the DL.

Fantasy Tip: Parra has been solid with 32 runs, five home runs, 27 RBI and six stolen bases, but his .263/.274/.424 slash line is a disappointment, especially since half his games are at Coors Field. Take a wait-and-see approach, but in shallow leagues, you can replace Parra if he lands on the DL. In that event, Ryan Raburn would likely see an uptick in playing time.

Rockies | Gerardo Parra out Wednesday

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 09:34:51 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Gerardo Parra (ankle) is out of the lineup Wednesday, June 15, with OF Ryan Raburn hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Raburn is hitting just .208 this month, and he really hasn't done much since hitting four of his six homers in April. He's a basement consideration against Ivan Nova today, though, because of his lineup and Coors Field.

Rockies | Gerardo Parra sprains ankle, set for MRI

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 22:37:10 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Gerardo Parra (ankle) was carted off the field in the third inning on Tuesday, June 14, with what manager Walt Weiss called a sprained ankle. Parra is slated to undergo an MRI on Wednesday, June 15. He was replaced by OF Ryan Raburn.

Fantasy Tip: Weiss says Parra is day-to-day, but that collision looked bad so we'll wait to see what the MRI reveals. Look for Raburn to be the regular left fielder as long as Parra is out, which could give Raburn some NL-only appeal.
