Bears | Eddie Royal targeted six times in loss

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 21:39:51 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal posted four receptions for 52 yards in the Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, Sept. 19. He was targeted six times. Royal also ripped off a 65-yard punt return for touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Fantasy Tip: Royal is only worth a look as a WR4 in the deepest of redraft fantasy formats. However, he has a little extra value in those leagues which reward individual return yardage.

Bears | Jay Cutler trusts Eddie Royal

Sat, 17 Sep 2016 17:25:12 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal is one of the "best route runners" in the league, according to QB Jay Cutler, and Cutler said he is comfortable throwing to Royal no matter where he lines up.

Fantasy Tip: With Kevin White still adjusting to the NFL game, Royal could be Cutler's No. 2 target for the foreseeable future and a potential WR4. He had 57 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 and could be a sneaky sleeper in DFS games in Week 2.

Bears | Eddie Royal cleared

Mon, 29 Aug 2016 15:40:17 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 29, after he passed all of his concussion tests. Head coach John Fox said he is not sure if Royal will play in the final preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Royal has a decent chance to be the No. 3 receiver for the Bears and could see a decent number of targets during the season. He likely will be selected in the late rounds of drafts and can be a No. 4 or No. 5 receiver for owners.

Bears | Eddie Royal continues to improve

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 20:55:44 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) participated in individual drills Saturday, Aug. 20, for the first time since sustaining a concussion Aug. 1. "He's progressing," head coach John Fox said. "He's not been cleared for total contact, but he's getting back in the thick of it."

Fantasy Tip: Royal is usually forgotten about on draft day, then he bursts back onto the scene with a multi-score game in season. With Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White in the mix, targets will be limited, but he is a decent WR4 in deeper fantasy formats.

Bears | Eddie Royal getting work in

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 15:31:09 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol, but he's been doing work running routes.

Fantasy Tip: Of course, concussions can be a lingering issue, so this news indicates Royal is trending in the right direction. While his status for Week 1 doesn't seem to be in doubt, the eight-year veteran appears to be falling well behind Kevin White on the depth chart. Considering Royal was limited to nine games last year due to injury, he might be someone to avoid in most leagues. His best days are clearly behind him anyway.

Bears | Eddie Royal could be odd man out

Tue, 16 Aug 2016 22:41:25 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) continues to miss time with a concussion, and it may end up costing him a spot on the final roster according to Hub Arkush. It could come down to two spots between Royal, Marc Mariani and rookie Daniel Braverman, who the team may not want to risk putting through waivers.

Fantasy Tip: Royal had a season to forget in 2015, doing little in nine games before landing on IR, and if the Bears elect to keep Mariani, a core special teamer, and Braverman, there may not be room for Royal. He was late-round flier at material at best, but perhaps it's time to bypass him altogether.

Bears | Eddie Royal does not practice

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 08:14:56 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) did not participate in practice Saturday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Royal has been sidelined for a while because of the concussion, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. He may have a chance to have a decent role in the passing game if he is able to return soon but would only be a late-round option in deeper leagues.

Bears | Four Chicago pass catchers sitting out

Fri, 05 Aug 2016 11:52:53 -0700

Chicago Bears WRs Alshon Jeffery (hamstring), Kevin White (rest), Eddie Royal (concussion) and TE Zach Miller (concussion) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 5. Head coach John Fox said it was a scheduled day off for White, and Fox noted both Royal and Miller are improving.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to view Jeffery as a fringe No. 1 receiver worth grabbing any time into Round 2 of drafts, whereas White is an upside candidate to target into the middle rounds as your No. 3 or No. 4 wide receiver. Miller is a late-round option after a decent finish to 2015 (31 receptions, 404 yards and five touchdowns over the final eight games). At this point, Royal is a low-end option in deep leagues.

Bears | Two Bears idle Thursday

Thu, 04 Aug 2016 08:01:17 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) and TE Zach Miller (concussion) are out of practice Thursday, Aug. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Royal could end up starting in the slot, or he may not even make the team. He has been pretty underwhelming after a strong rookie season in 2008, and at age 30, he's a questionable WR5 flyer. Miller is 31, and his 34-439-5 line last season was by far the best of his career. The Bears don't have a lot of proven options to throw to, and he could be heavily involved. However, there are options with more upside in that low-end TE1 range. He's a safer TE2 with upside.

Bears | Eddie Royal suffers concussion

Mon, 01 Aug 2016 10:08:24 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) has been diagnosed with a concussion, according to head coach John Fox.

Fantasy Tip: Royal will need to pass his concussion tests before he is able to return to the field. He is considered the top slot receiver at this point, but he may need to compete for a roster spot if he misses too much time. Royal probably should be seen as a late-round pick in deeper leagues if he makes the team.
