Bears | Eddie Royal cleared

Mon, 29 Aug 2016 15:40:17 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 29, after he passed all of his concussion tests. Head coach John Fox said he is not sure if Royal will play in the final preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Royal has a decent chance to be the No. 3 receiver for the Bears and could see a decent number of targets during the season. He likely will be selected in the late rounds of drafts and can be a No. 4 or No. 5 receiver for owners.

Bears | Eddie Royal continues to improve

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 20:55:44 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) participated in individual drills Saturday, Aug. 20, for the first time since sustaining a concussion Aug. 1. "He's progressing," head coach John Fox said. "He's not been cleared for total contact, but he's getting back in the thick of it."

Fantasy Tip: Royal is usually forgotten about on draft day, then he bursts back onto the scene with a multi-score game in season. With Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White in the mix, targets will be limited, but he is a decent WR4 in deeper fantasy formats.

Bears | Eddie Royal getting work in

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 15:31:09 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol, but he's been doing work running routes.

Fantasy Tip: Of course, concussions can be a lingering issue, so this news indicates Royal is trending in the right direction. While his status for Week 1 doesn't seem to be in doubt, the eight-year veteran appears to be falling well behind Kevin White on the depth chart. Considering Royal was limited to nine games last year due to injury, he might be someone to avoid in most leagues. His best days are clearly behind him anyway.

Bears | Eddie Royal could be odd man out

Tue, 16 Aug 2016 22:41:25 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) continues to miss time with a concussion, and it may end up costing him a spot on the final roster according to Hub Arkush. It could come down to two spots between Royal, Marc Mariani and rookie Daniel Braverman, who the team may not want to risk putting through waivers.

Fantasy Tip: Royal had a season to forget in 2015, doing little in nine games before landing on IR, and if the Bears elect to keep Mariani, a core special teamer, and Braverman, there may not be room for Royal. He was late-round flier at material at best, but perhaps it's time to bypass him altogether.

Bears | Eddie Royal does not practice

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 08:14:56 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) did not participate in practice Saturday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Royal has been sidelined for a while because of the concussion, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. He may have a chance to have a decent role in the passing game if he is able to return soon but would only be a late-round option in deeper leagues.

Bears | Four Chicago pass catchers sitting out

Fri, 05 Aug 2016 11:52:53 -0700

Chicago Bears WRs Alshon Jeffery (hamstring), Kevin White (rest), Eddie Royal (concussion) and TE Zach Miller (concussion) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 5. Head coach John Fox said it was a scheduled day off for White, and Fox noted both Royal and Miller are improving.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to view Jeffery as a fringe No. 1 receiver worth grabbing any time into Round 2 of drafts, whereas White is an upside candidate to target into the middle rounds as your No. 3 or No. 4 wide receiver. Miller is a late-round option after a decent finish to 2015 (31 receptions, 404 yards and five touchdowns over the final eight games). At this point, Royal is a low-end option in deep leagues.

Bears | Two Bears idle Thursday

Thu, 04 Aug 2016 08:01:17 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) and TE Zach Miller (concussion) are out of practice Thursday, Aug. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Royal could end up starting in the slot, or he may not even make the team. He has been pretty underwhelming after a strong rookie season in 2008, and at age 30, he's a questionable WR5 flyer. Miller is 31, and his 34-439-5 line last season was by far the best of his career. The Bears don't have a lot of proven options to throw to, and he could be heavily involved. However, there are options with more upside in that low-end TE1 range. He's a safer TE2 with upside.

Bears | Eddie Royal suffers concussion

Mon, 01 Aug 2016 10:08:24 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) has been diagnosed with a concussion, according to head coach John Fox.

Fantasy Tip: Royal will need to pass his concussion tests before he is able to return to the field. He is considered the top slot receiver at this point, but he may need to compete for a roster spot if he misses too much time. Royal probably should be seen as a late-round pick in deeper leagues if he makes the team.

Bears | Eddie Royal exits practice

Mon, 01 Aug 2016 08:05:37 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (undisclosed) left practice Monday, Aug. 1, with an undisclosed injury.

Fantasy Tip: Royal is listed as the starting slot receiver, but it's conceivable that he's fighting for a roster spot at age 30. He had a 37-238-1 injury-riddled year, and he really doesn't have much upside as a WR5.

Bears | Eddie Royal won't play Sunday

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 09:23:29 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (illness) is not active for Week 17's game against the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: Royal ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) missed practice all week and was officially designated as questionable on the injury report. WRs Josh Bellamy ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Marc Mariani ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) should receive slight fantasy boosts but should only be viewed as desperation sources of salary cap relief in FantasyScore.

Bears | Eddie Royal doubtful for Week 17

Fri, 01 Jan 2016 12:52:40 -0800

Chicago Bears WE Eddie Royal (illness) did not practice Friday, Jan. 1, and he is listed as doubtful for the Week 17 game against the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: With Alshon Jeffery ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) and Marquess Wilson already out, and Royal ($2,100, 4.2%) appearing unlikely to suit up, the passing options are depleted for Chicago. Josh Bellamy ($2,000, 4.0%) and Marc Mariani ($2,000, 4.0%) receive a slight fantasy boost and are desperation sources of cap relief if Royal doesn't play. Royal stands as a risky flier if active against Detroit.

Bears | Zach Miller, Eddie Royal miss practice

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 11:26:59 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (toe) and WR Eddie Royal (illness) both missed practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

Fantasy Tip: That's two straight missed practices this week for both players, which doesn't bode well for their status Sunday. Miller ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is a nice value pick at tight end in a solid matchup for daily gamers, just make sure he's playing. Royal ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) should see his role increase with Alshon Jeffery out, but he remains an unattractive deep sleeper.

Bears | Zach Miller, Eddie Royal sit out

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 15:12:33 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Zach Miller (toe) and WR Eddie Royal (illness) did not practice Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has at least five grabs and 57 yards in each of the last three games, and he's a great value pick in daily leagues against a Detroit Lions team that struggles to cover tight ends. Royal ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has 10 catches in the last two games but hasn't done much with it. He remains a low-end receiver on FantasyScore, even with Alshon Jeffery out.

Bears | Trio of receivers do little for Chicago

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 18:36:04 -0800

Chicago Bears WRs Josh Bellamy, Marc Mariani and Eddie Royal were the top wide receivers in Week 16 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with WR Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) sidelined. It was Mariani leading the way with 32 yards on two grabs, with Royal posting five catches for 21 yards and Bellamy just two catches for 10 yards.

Fantasy Tip: The trio did nothing for FantasyScore owners, and killed the value of Jay Cutler in the process. If Jeffery is again sidelined in Week 17, avoid the Chicago passing offense options completely.

Bears | Eddie Royal likely to play Sunday

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 07:06:56 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) made the trip with the team and is likely to play in Week 16's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Royal ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 23, as well as Friday, Dec. 25. He only has 32 receptions for 217 yards and one touchdown through eight games this season and is not a recommended option in FantasyScore this week.

Bears | Eddie Royal's status in question

Fri, 25 Dec 2015 14:53:20 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 25, and is listed as questionable for the Week 16 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: Royal ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) could be a game-time decision, so owners should check on his status when the inactive list comes out. Royal has not posted great numbers this season and is not a great fantasy option even if he is active for the game.

Bears | Eddie Royal downgraded

Thu, 24 Dec 2015 12:45:59 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 24, after being limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Fantasy Tip: The Bears may be without both Alshon Jeffery ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) and Eddie Royal ($2,100, 4.2%) for Week 16 as both missed practice today. If either Jeffery or Royal don't play, then Zach Miller ($4,300, 8.6%) and Matt Forte ($6,900, 13.8%) would probably see a good amount of targets like they did last week. Even Marc Mariani ($2,000, 4.0%) might be worth a flyer on FantasyScore.

Bears | Eddie Royal limited at practice

Wed, 23 Dec 2015 13:45:35 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Royal ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) caught five passes last week for 31 yards, which isn't horrible production in relation to his salary at FantasyScore. However, he should be viewed as nothing more than a desperation flier for Week 16, and only in PPR formats. Royal does have long-standing chemistry with QB Jay Cutler ($5,900, 11.8% of cap), though, so there is slight contrarian appeal.

Bears | Eddie Royal ready for bigger role?

Thu, 17 Dec 2015 15:10:23 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal was on the field for 53 of 59 offensive snaps in his return last week after missing five games with a sprained knee, but he had just two targets and caught only one screen pass for 15 yards. QB Jay Cutler said Royal has looked better this week in practice and is regaining his burst.

Fantasy Tip: Royal ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) could have a bigger role down the stretch with Marquess Wilson out for the year. However, an immediate uptick in production shouldn't be expected from Royal after missing five games. He's still an unattractive deep sleeper play on FantasyScore right now.

Bears | Eddie Royal, Zach Miller questionable

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 10:32:24 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) and TE Zach Miller (ribs) are both questionable to play in Week 14 against the Washington Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: Royal ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) hasn't played since Nov. 1 and should be given some time back before being thrown immediately into daily lineups. Miller ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is a great deep sleeper pick at tight end if he suits up with Martellus Bennett done for the season.

Bears | Eddie Royal, Zach Miller limited

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 15:10:50 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) and TE Zach Miller (ribs) were limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Royal ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has had a long hiatus and could be rusty if he does play; it's best to wait at least another week before plugging him into FantasyScore lineups. Miller ($2,300, 4.6%) is a great value play, on the other hand, with Martellus Bennett out for the year.

Bears | Eddie Royal is limited participant

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 19:41:04 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) was listed as having limited participation in practice Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Royal ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has missed the past five games, so shouldn't be trusted until he can officially return to game action and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks.

Bears | Eddie Royal limited

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 11:19:58 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 9. It was his first time practicing after missing five games.

Fantasy Tip: Royal ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) doesn't have a lot of upside against the Washington Redskins if he's able to go, but he could figure in with Marquess Wilson (foot) banged up and Martellus Bennett (ribs) done. He's a low-end basement flyer on FantasyScore.

Bears | Eddie Royal inactive Sunday

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 07:34:16 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) will not play in Week 13's game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: It's not a surprise to see Royal ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) inactive after he was unable to practice all week. Remove him from all fantasy lineups. Josh Bellamy ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will receive the start in Royal's place and Alshon Jeffery ($7,500, 15.0% of cap) and Martellus Bennett ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) will have favorable matchups against a weak San Francisco secondary.

Bears | Eddie Royal questionable

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 15:44:10 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) did not practice all week but is questionable for Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers. However, it's unusual for a player to suit up after missing an entire week of practice. With WR Marquess Wilson (foot) also out, WRs Josh Bellamy, Marc Mariani and Cameron Meredith might be asked to contribute more.

Fantasy Tip: Don't count on Royal ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) to return this weekend. With Wilson out, Alshon Jeffery ($7,500, 15.0% of cap) is worth every penny against a weak Niners defense. Martellus Bennett ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) is also very attractive with Zach Miller questionable to play.

Bears | Eddie Royal absent again

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 12:12:09 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) missed practice again Thursday, Dec. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Royal ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) hasn't played in over a month and should be avoided. In a top-five matchup for wide receivers against the San Francisco 49ers, Alshon Jeffery ($7,500, 15.0% of cap) would look good in any daily lineup, and Marquess Wilson ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) has some deep sleeper appeal if he's healthy enough.

Bears | Eddie Royal out of practice again

Wed, 02 Dec 2015 11:19:49 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) is out of practice Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Fantasy Tip: Royal ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has been out for a few weeks, but if he's able to recover to face the San Francisco 49ers, it's plausible using him on FantasyScore as a basement flyer.

Bears | Eddie Royal absent Monday

Mon, 30 Nov 2015 11:19:52 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) was not present at the open portion of practice Monday, Nov. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Royal has not played since Nov. 1 as he continues to be hampered by this knee injury. If Royal continues to miss practice this week, he could be sidelined again, in which case Marquess Wilson would once again play the No. 2 wide receiver role for the Bears.

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 11:48:58 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) and RB Ka'Deem Carey (head) were ruled out for Week 12 Thursday, Nov. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Marquess Wilson ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) had four grabs for 102 yards last week and is a low-end flyer against the Green Bay Packers on FantasyScore.

Bears | Eddie Royal, Ka'Deem Carey out

Tue, 24 Nov 2015 13:46:19 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) and RB Ka'Deem Carey (head) did not practice for the second straight day Tuesday, Nov. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Royal ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) hasn't played since Nov. 1 and seems unlikely to suit up on the short week. You can avoid him everywhere. Carey ($2,000) wouldn't even be a viable daily pick on Thanksgiving if he were to be active with Matt Forte expected to return from injury.

Bears | Three Bears miss practice Monday

Mon, 23 Nov 2015 13:43:39 -0800

Chicago Bears TE Martellus Bennett (ribs), RB Ka'Deem Carey (head) and WR Eddie Royal (knee) did not practice Monday, Nov. 23. The Bears didn't actually practice Monday, so the designations are an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: With a short week on tap, all three players are risky on FantasyScore. We don't expect Royal or Carey to play at all. Bennett is trickier, and you'll have to keep a close eye on his progress leading up to Thursday. If he does play, he's not a bad FantasyScore selection against a Packers team allowing the seventh-most PPR fantasy points (15.9) to tight ends per game this year.

Bears | Eddie Royal officially out

Fri, 20 Nov 2015 11:09:38 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) has been ruled out for Week 11 against the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: With Forte out and Alshon Jeffery questionable, Jay Cutler could face an even tougher time against the NFL's No. 1 defensive unit. Fade Cutler ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) on FantasyScore, and it might be a good idea to stay away from all of their offensive weapons.

Bears | Eddie Royal misses practice

Thu, 19 Nov 2015 15:22:25 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Royal ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will miss another game because of the injury, but owners should keep an eye on the situation to see if there is any improvement. Marquess Wilson ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore to consider if they want to save money.

Bears | Eddie Royal sits out of practice

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 15:11:45 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Royal ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has missed the last couple of games with the knee ailment, and he could be on his way to missing a third straight game. Alshon Jeffery ($7,600, 15.2%) is the go-to man when he's healthy, but Marquess Wilson ($2,000, 4.0%) is a sleeper candidate on FantasyScore for Week 11.

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 10:17:49 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (knee) didn't practice Friday, Nov. 13, and is out for Week 10.

Fantasy Tip: Marquess Wilson ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has caught a single pass two weeks in a row. Even with Alshon Jeffery (groin) questionable, it's hard to suggest him against the St. Louis Rams on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Royal ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) missed last week with the same knee injury. If he continues to miss practice he may be at risk of missing another game. Royal's absence didn't really increase production for Marquess Wilson ($3,100, 6.2%) last week, but he would likely still be the No. 2 Chicago wide receiver and would be worth considering on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Langford ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) will start in place of Forte, and he has a great matchup against the San Diego Chargers. He should be given serious consideration on FantasyScore. Marquess Wilson ($2,000, 4.0%) is another solid play with Royal out, especially at minimum price.

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) and WR Eddie Royal (ankle) are officially active for the Week 6 game against the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: Jeffery ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) and Royal ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) should be the starting wide receivers for the team this week. Both players are risky options since they are coming off injuries, but Jeffery could be a starting option since he should be the top target in the passing game. Royal could be a flex option but will look some targets with Jeffery back.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery, Eddie Royal questionable

Fri, 16 Oct 2015 11:43:13 -0700

Chicago Bears WRs Alshon Jeffery (hamstring) and Eddie Royal (ankle) were both limited in practice Friday, Oct. 16, and are questionable for Week 6 against the Detroit Lions. Jeffery made it through the whole week without a setback after being inactive the last four weeks. Jeffery said his hamstring is feeling much better than it did last week.

Fantasy Tip: Jeffery ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) hasn't played since Week 1 and is an incredibly shaky daily pick in Week 6. With Jeffery, Royal and Martellus Bennett questionable, Marquess Wilson ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) becomes an excellent sleeper pick on FantasyScore against a Lions defense allowing the eighth-most PPR points (39.9) to receivers per game.
