Bears | Eddie Royal won't play in Week 13

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 08:39:03 -0800

Contrary to a previous report, Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) will not play in Week 13's game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Royal was held out of practice this week and had been listed as questionable on the injury report. Marquess Wilson should see an increase in fantasy value as a result of his absence, although Deonte Thompson and Cameron Meredith are also likely to see more targets.

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 06:14:48 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) is expected to play in Week 13's game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Royal, who was listed as questionable on the injury report, did not practice at all this week but has been able to play through this injury for several games. However, he has not been very productive recently, so he should be avoided in all fantasy formats despite the favorable matchup.

Bears | Eddie Royal questionable for Week 13

Fri, 02 Dec 2016 11:36:07 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) has been listed as questionable for Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: Almost all of Royal's tenure in Chicago has been accompanied with a questionable tag, which is a shame for a player who has shown flashes of being one of the better slot receivers in the league on the rare occasion when he stays healthy. Marquess Wilson is the Chicago receiver to own at the moment, although Deonte Thompson and Cameron Meredith should also be involved.

Bears | Eddie Royal goes backward

Sun, 27 Nov 2016 16:49:04 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal had just one reception for minus-6 yards in the Week 12 game against the Tennessee Titans. That was his only target.

Fantasy Tip: Royal was expected to team with Cameron Meredith to help fill the void left by the suspension to Alshon Jeffery, but it has been Marquess Wilson, Deonte Thompson and Josh Bellamy seeing a bump in targets instead. Avoid Royal in fantasy leagues until he shows more consistency.

Sun, 27 Nov 2016 09:32:55 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) is officially active for the team's Week 12 game.

Fantasy Tip: Royal did not practice at all this week, so he may be limited against the Tennessee Titans. He will also be catching passes from Matt Barkley, so owners should avoid Royal this week.

Bears | Eddie Royal misses practice

Wed, 23 Nov 2016 14:35:03 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 23.

Fantasy Tip: With Jay Cutler looking like he'll miss this game, it's unwise to start anyone in the Bears' passing attack if/when Matt Barkley is at the helm Royal is a desperation start in PPR leagues at best even with Alshon Jeffery and Zach Miller out.

Bears | Eddie Royal active for Week 11

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 08:53:12 -0800

Confirming a previous report, Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) is active for Week 11's game against the New York Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Royal should see an increase in targets this afternoon due to the absence of Alshon Jeffery, as he serves the first week of his four-game suspension. Royal should be viewed as a viable flex option in PPR fantasy formats.

Bears | Eddie Royal expected to play Sunday

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 07:29:48 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) is expected to play in Week 11's game against the New York Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Royal was limited in practice throughout the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report, even though he played through the same injury last week. He should see an increase in targets as a result of Alshon Jeffery's four-game suspension getting underway and makes a decent flex option in PPR formats.

Bears | Eddie Royal listed as questionable

Fri, 18 Nov 2016 12:49:32 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) is listed as questionable for the team's Week 11 game Sunday, Nov. 20, against the New York Giants. He was able to get in a limited practice Friday, Nov. 18.

Fantasy Tip: The injury-prone Royal is seemingly always questionable, and considering he was able to make it through last week's contest without incident, it would appear he's more likely than not to suit up for Week 11. With Alshon Jeffery beginning his four-game suspension this weekend, Royal could become somewhat of a useful commodity again, as he and Cameron Meredith should each receive a notable bump in targets. He could be especially sneaky for PPR formats.

Bears | Eddie Royal listed as limited

Thu, 17 Nov 2016 12:34:16 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) was limited during practice Thursday, Nov. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Royal should receive more targets with Alshon Jeffery suspended, which will help him in point-per-reception leagues. Royal can be a flex option in PPR leagues but probably would not be a great option in some standard leagues.

Bears | Eddie Royal limited

Wed, 16 Nov 2016 14:01:07 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Royal is a nice sleeper option this week with Alshon Jeffery suspended. He has more value in and is better suited for PPR leagues, but he could serve as Jay Cutler's safety valve along with Zach Miller. The New York Giants have an underrated defense, but Royal isn't the worst flex start in Week 11.

Bears | Eddie Royal likely to play

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 07:33:12 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) is expected to play in Week 10's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had been limited in practice throughout the week.

Fantasy Tip: The Buccaneers are tied for the fourth-most receiving touchdowns allowed in the NFL, making this a very favorable matchup for Royal. Although he carries some risk because of his inability to remain healthy, he is worthy of consideration as a flex option in deeper seasonal leagues.

Bears | Eddie Royal questionable for Week 10

Fri, 11 Nov 2016 13:03:55 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) has been limited in practice all week but is expected to end a two-game absence in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: Royal is a trusted option for Jay Cutler in the short passing game and the red zone, but his inability to stay healthy has typically kept up from becoming a reliable fantasy starter. He has some low-end flex appeal this weekend if he plays against the poor pass defense, but the odds are good most owners have more reliable options.

Bears | Eddie Royal limited again Thursday

Thu, 10 Nov 2016 15:30:43 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, Nov. 10.

Fantasy Tip: The injury-prone veteran has missed the last two games, and even if he does manage to suit up on Sunday, Royal is better off being left on the bench in just about all formats.

Bears | Eddie Royal limited Wednesday

Wed, 09 Nov 2016 16:00:48 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) was limited during practice Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Royal missed the last two games but appears to have a chance to play in Week 10. He posted decent numbers before suffering the injury and would have a solid role in the passing game if he plays. He could be a flex option in some deeper leagues.

Bears | Eddie Royal resumes practicing

Mon, 07 Nov 2016 12:29:23 -0800

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) returned to practice Monday, Nov. 7.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how involved Royal was; that will be made known later in the week. He'll likely retain his position in the slot when he does return, but that may not be this week. He's worth a pickup if he was dropped after his injury, but Alshon Jeffery, Zach Miller and Cameron Meredith will limit his fantasy potential.

Bears | Eddie Royal doubtful for Week 8

Sat, 29 Oct 2016 11:40:08 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) did not practice this week and is listed as doubtful for Week 8 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Tip: Royal's short tenure with Chicago has been marred by injuries, and the lack of any practice this week does not bode well for a return next week. Cameron Meredith and Zach Miller could see more targets this week as a result, but both players are dicey plays at best against the vaunted Minnesota defense.

Bears | Eddie Royal misses practice

Fri, 28 Oct 2016 17:54:38 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Royal has been able to play the last two weeks even though he has missed practice, so he still has a chance to play in Week 8. He has had a decent role in the passing game this season, but owners in most leagues should be able to find better options to use.

Bears | Eddie Royal not at practice

Tue, 25 Oct 2016 11:20:51 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) was not present for practice Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Fantasy Tip: The Bears play Monday night, so Royal will have some extra time to get ready. Coming off an injury and having Jay Cutler back aren't ingredients for a successful recipe, though, especially against the Minnesota Vikings vaunted defense. Royal is a big risk heading into Week 8.

Bears | Eddie Royal won't play

Wed, 19 Oct 2016 13:14:26 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) has officially been ruled out for Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: As was the case last week when Royal played, Alshon Jeffery and Cameron Meredith will be Chicago's two main receivers. The Bears may be forced to pass a lot versus a stingy rush defense, so view Jeffery as a high-end WR2 and Meredith as a WR3.

Bears | Eddie Royal still absent

Tue, 18 Oct 2016 12:36:57 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) did not practice Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Fantasy Tip: That's back-to-back no shows for Royal so far this week. If he doesn't practice Wednesday then that could mean a doubtful status for Thursday night's game against the Green Bay Packers. Even if Royal does play, he's the Bears' No. 3 receiver and should not be viewed as a reliable starter.

Bears | Eddie Royal not at practice

Mon, 17 Oct 2016 15:26:00 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (toe) did not practice Monday, Oct. 17. The Bears did not practice; Royal's status is an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: Cameron Meredith may have officially supplanted Royal as the No. 2 wide receiver in Chicago. Royal is still involved with Kevin White out, though. He has been targeted 15 times the last two weeks. That being said, don't view Royal as more than a flex start as long as Alshon Jeffery and Meredith are healthy.

Fri, 14 Oct 2016 16:38:29 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (calf) did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 14, and is listed as questionable for Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Royal was able to play in Week 5 even though he missed practice last week, so owners will need to check the inactive list. Owners may want to look for other options to use because Royal could be limited if he is active.

Bears | Eddie Royal misses practice

Wed, 12 Oct 2016 16:57:52 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (calf) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Royal played in the team's Week 5 game despite the injury and could be a game-time decision again this week. He has caught 14 passes over the last two weeks and may be a flex option in deeper leagues if he is active for the game.

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 20:20:17 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (calf) posted seven catches for 43 yards in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts and he posted nine targets.

Fantasy Tip: Royal has managed 14 catches for 154 yards and a touchdown over the past two weekends, stepping up to fill the void left by Kevin White. Royal is an outstanding fantasy option in PPR formats, and he has lesser value in standard leagues.

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (calf) is officially active for the team's Week 5 game.

Bears | Eddie Royal looking like a GTD

Fri, 07 Oct 2016 12:04:17 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (calf) is looking like he'll be a game-time decision for the team's Week 5 game Sunday, Oct. 9, according to head coach John Fox. He hasn't practiced all week and is being listed as questionable for the contest.

Fantasy Tip: With Kevin White sidelined for an extended period of time, this would be a bad break for Royal owners, as the nine-year veteran is out to a very nice start in 2016. He should continue to gobble up targets as long as he's out there, but if Royal can't go, Alshon Jeffery will be an uncontested WR1 in Week 5, even if Brian Hoyer is under center.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to check on Royal's status Friday, Oct. 7, to see if he will be able to play in Week 5. Bears | Eddie Royal misses practice

Wed, 05 Oct 2016 16:13:17 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (calf) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Royal is in line for more playing time with Kevin White out for a while, but owners will have to see if he is in danger of missing Week 5. Royal has played well so far this season and should be a No. 3 receiver or a flex option moving forward.

Bears | Eddie Royal has 100-yard game

Sun, 02 Oct 2016 14:10:07 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal caught seven passes for 111 yards on Sunday, Oct. 2, in a 17-14 win over the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: Royal could see more action with Kevin White possibly out due to an ankle injury. Royal is technically a WR3 on the Bears' depth chart, but Royal will play more like a solid WR1 or WR2 thanks to the chemistry he has with QB Brian Hoyer.

Bears | Eddie Royal targeted six times in loss

Mon, 19 Sep 2016 21:39:51 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal posted four receptions for 52 yards in the Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, Sept. 19. He was targeted six times. Royal also ripped off a 65-yard punt return for touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Fantasy Tip: Royal is only worth a look as a WR4 in the deepest of redraft fantasy formats. However, he has a little extra value in those leagues which reward individual return yardage.

Bears | Jay Cutler trusts Eddie Royal

Sat, 17 Sep 2016 17:25:12 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal is one of the "best route runners" in the league, according to QB Jay Cutler, and Cutler said he is comfortable throwing to Royal no matter where he lines up.

Fantasy Tip: With Kevin White still adjusting to the NFL game, Royal could be Cutler's No. 2 target for the foreseeable future and a potential WR4. He had 57 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 and could be a sneaky sleeper in DFS games in Week 2.

Bears | Eddie Royal cleared

Mon, 29 Aug 2016 15:40:17 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 29, after he passed all of his concussion tests. Head coach John Fox said he is not sure if Royal will play in the final preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Royal has a decent chance to be the No. 3 receiver for the Bears and could see a decent number of targets during the season. He likely will be selected in the late rounds of drafts and can be a No. 4 or No. 5 receiver for owners.

Bears | Eddie Royal continues to improve

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 20:55:44 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) participated in individual drills Saturday, Aug. 20, for the first time since sustaining a concussion Aug. 1. "He's progressing," head coach John Fox said. "He's not been cleared for total contact, but he's getting back in the thick of it."

Fantasy Tip: Royal is usually forgotten about on draft day, then he bursts back onto the scene with a multi-score game in season. With Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White in the mix, targets will be limited, but he is a decent WR4 in deeper fantasy formats.

Bears | Eddie Royal getting work in

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 15:31:09 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol, but he's been doing work running routes.

Fantasy Tip: Of course, concussions can be a lingering issue, so this news indicates Royal is trending in the right direction. While his status for Week 1 doesn't seem to be in doubt, the eight-year veteran appears to be falling well behind Kevin White on the depth chart. Considering Royal was limited to nine games last year due to injury, he might be someone to avoid in most leagues. His best days are clearly behind him anyway.

Bears | Eddie Royal could be odd man out

Tue, 16 Aug 2016 22:41:25 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) continues to miss time with a concussion, and it may end up costing him a spot on the final roster according to Hub Arkush. It could come down to two spots between Royal, Marc Mariani and rookie Daniel Braverman, who the team may not want to risk putting through waivers.

Fantasy Tip: Royal had a season to forget in 2015, doing little in nine games before landing on IR, and if the Bears elect to keep Mariani, a core special teamer, and Braverman, there may not be room for Royal. He was late-round flier at material at best, but perhaps it's time to bypass him altogether.

Bears | Eddie Royal does not practice

Sun, 14 Aug 2016 08:14:56 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (concussion) did not participate in practice Saturday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Royal has been sidelined for a while because of the concussion, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. He may have a chance to have a decent role in the passing game if he is able to return soon but would only be a late-round option in deeper leagues.

Bears | Four Chicago pass catchers sitting out

Fri, 05 Aug 2016 11:52:53 -0700

Chicago Bears WRs Alshon Jeffery (hamstring), Kevin White (rest), Eddie Royal (concussion) and TE Zach Miller (concussion) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 5. Head coach John Fox said it was a scheduled day off for White, and Fox noted both Royal and Miller are improving.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to view Jeffery as a fringe No. 1 receiver worth grabbing any time into Round 2 of drafts, whereas White is an upside candidate to target into the middle rounds as your No. 3 or No. 4 wide receiver. Miller is a late-round option after a decent finish to 2015 (31 receptions, 404 yards and five touchdowns over the final eight games). At this point, Royal is a low-end option in deep leagues.
