Stewart-Haas Racing | Mark Martin expects to call it quits

Mon, 11 Nov 2013 13:25:20 -0800

Stewart-Haas Racing driver Mark Martin said he has no plans to race beyond the 2013 season. "Let's just don't talk about it," he said. "On the plus side of things, it's not like I'm going to go hide. I've got 40 years invested in this sport and I've had tunnel vision the whole 40 years. I won't be at every race, but I'll be at races and I'll still be involved in the sport." He plans to work in an undefined role for SHR.

Stewart-Haas Racing | Tony Stewart done for season

Mon, 19 Aug 2013 12:21:00 -0700

Stewart-Haas Racing announced Monday, Aug. 19, that driver Tony Stewart (leg) will officially miss the remainder of the Sprint Cup season after missing the last two races with a broken right tibia and fibula. Driver Mark Martin will replace Stewart in the No. 14 Chevrolet for 12 of the final 13 races, beginning this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. Driver Austin Dillon will drive for the team at Talladega Superspeedway. Martin has been given his release from Michael Waltrip Racing and the No. 55 car, where he was scheduled to drive 10 of the final 13 races. Driver Brian Vickers, who will take over full time in the car next year, will drive those races. Stewart is expected to return for preseason testing in January. Stewart's No. 14 car is 13th in owners points, 10 out of the top 10.

Stewart-Haas Racing | Mark Martin likely to fill in for Tony Stewart

Mon, 19 Aug 2013 10:24:04 -0700

Stewart-Haas Racing is working on a deal to finalize putting driver Mark Martin in the No. 14 Chevrolet to replace driver Tony Stewart (leg) for most, if not the rest, of the Sprint Cup season. Martin would be in the car starting in the Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend. An official announcement is expected to come Monday, Aug. 19. Martin has the support from Michael Waltrip Racing to leave the No. 55 car to fill in for Stewart. Martin would likely drive in every race Stewart missed aside from Talladega, where driver Austin Dillon could fill in.

Fantasy Tip: Martin gambled on fuel at Michigan International Speedway yesterday and wound up finishing second to Joey Logano. Martin can still be effective at the right tracks, and he'll have increased value, depending on the week, if he is cleared to drive for SHR for the rest of the season.

Joe Gibbs Racing | Mark Martin could fill in for Denny Hamlin

Thu, 28 Mar 2013 16:12:18 -0700

Joe Gibbs Racing announced Thursday, March 28, that driver Mark Martin could replace driver Denny Hamlin (back) while he recovers from a back injury. The team is considering having Martin drive in all five races in the No. 11 car while Hamlin is sidelined. Driver Brian Vickers would pick up Martin's schedule for Michael Waltrip Racing and the No. 55 car that would include races at Texas, Kansas and Richmond. Vickers could also race for Hamlin for four races after next week at Martinsville, where he's scheduled to drive the No. 55 for Martin. Driver Elliott Sadler could also drive for Hamlin the entire time, although that is the least likely option.

Fantasy Tip: Martin and Vickers are not strong fantasy options on a weekly basis, but they might be useful as a No. 4 driver depending on the particular track that week.
