Michael Waltrip Racing announced Monday, Oct. 14, that they will only run two full-time cars in the Sprint Cup Series next season because of the loss of sponsor NAPA. Driver Martin Truex Jr. was told to start looking for another ride, and he has been talking with Furniture Row Racing.

Stewart-Haas Racing driver Ryan Newman has made the Chase, after NASCAR penalized Michael Waltrip Racing $300,000 and docked each driver on the team 50 points. Martin Truex Jr. had previously been determined to have made the Chase, beating out Newman on a tiebreaker, but it was determined that MWR driver Clint Bowyer intentionally spun his tires on a restart to help his teammate, violating Section 12-4 (Actions detrimental to stock car racing).

Michael Waltrip Racing was fined $300,000 by NASCAR, and all three drivers were docked 50 points. That means Martin Truex Jr. is out of the Chase, and Stewart-Haas Racing driver Ryan Newman is in. The penalties and fine were a result of what was determined to be an intentional spin on a restart by teammate Clint Bowyer.

Penske Championship Racing driver Brad Keselowski, last year's Sprint Cup champion, failed to make the Chase for the Sprint Cup at Richmond International Raceway Saturday, Sept. 7. Roush Fenway Racing driver Carl Edwards won the race. Michael Waltrip Racing driver Martin Truex Jr. grabbed the final Chase spot.

Updating a previous report, Michael Waltrip Racing agreed to a three-year contract extension with driver Martin Truex Jr. NAPA is on board as Truex's primary sponsor in the Sprint Cup Series. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Michael Waltrip Racing agreed to a contract extension with driver Martin Truex Jr. Tuesday, Aug. 28, to remain in the No. 56 Toyota car for the Sprint Cup Series. The team will announce the undisclosed extension Friday, Aug. 31. Truex is currently fifth in the Cup standings, and his 13 top-10 finishes are his most since 2007.

NASCAR confiscated three front windshields from two Michael Waltrip Racing cars and one affiliated with the team Friday, Oct. 21, at Talladega Superspeedway. The windshields were taken from drivers David Reutimann and Martin Truex Jr. and one from JTG Daugherty Racing driver Bobby Labonte. They were taken because they had unapproved modifications.

Keith Barnwell, the spotter for Michael Waltrip Racing driver Martin Truex Jr., will miss the Sprint Cup race this weekend at Daytona International Speedway to be with his sick mother. Ty Norris will replace Barnwell this weekend.
