Patriots | Danny Amendola in fight for last WR spot

Sun, 28 May 2017 10:45:31 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola is expected to battle Andrew Hawkins for the sixth and likely final receiver spot in camp, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Brandin Cooks, Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan and Malcolm Mitchell aren't going anywhere, while Matthew Slater's Pro Bowl-caliber work on special teams pretty much makes him a lock. Amendola holds the edge because he is a known quantity in New England, but his injury history give Hawkins a legitimate chance to stick. Neither player figures to be worth much in fantasy, however.

Patriots | Danny Amendola open to pay cut

Mon, 20 Feb 2017 06:09:12 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola is receptive to a pay cut in order to stay with the team.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola is too spotty of a player to rely on in fantasy. He'll have huge weeks on occasion, but the 31-year-old doesn't contribute consistently enough for a WR5 flyer.

Patriots | Danny Amendola will need to take pay cut

Sun, 12 Feb 2017 10:18:51 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola is due $6 million in base salary in 2017, but it is a "certainty" he will not be returning under the turn of his current contract, according to ESPN.com's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola keeps producing in big games and the team obviously trusts him in those spots (eight catches for 78 yards, a touchdown and a game-tying two-point conversion in Super Bowl LI), but he is the No. 4 receiver on the team behind Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan and Malcolm Mitchell. As a result, he'll probably need to take another sizable pay cut like he has each of the last two years in order to remain in Foxboro. He can be ignored in most fantasy leagues.

Patriots | Danny Amendola off injury report

Wed, 01 Feb 2017 16:23:48 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) has been removed from the injury report for Super Bowl LI.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola has been targeted only four times in the last two playoff games and probably will see limited targets again during Super Bowl LI. He is not a strong fantasy option this week and probably can be avoided in fantasy drafts in 2017.

Patriots | Danny Amendola limited

Fri, 27 Jan 2017 13:45:29 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola has been limited during practice over the last few weeks but has been able to play. He has been targeted four times during the playoffs and has two catches for 12 yards during those games. Owners in all leagues should avoid him for the rest of this season. He probably will be the No. 4 receiver if he returns to the Patriots in 2017 and can be passed over in fantasy drafts.

Patriots | Limited practice for Danny Amendola

Thu, 26 Jan 2017 14:11:37 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday, Jan. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola did next to nothing in the regular season. The same can be said for the playoffs. Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Dion Lewis and LeGarrette Blount have been New England's biggest playmakers on offense. Amendola can continue to be ignored.

Patriots | Danny Amendola limited

Wed, 25 Jan 2017 13:37:56 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) was limited during practice Wednesday, Jan. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola has received limited work so far this postseason and has posted two catches for 12 yards in two postseason games. He should be able to play in Super Bowl LI but will not be a great fantasy option because of his limited targets.

Patriots | Danny Amendola questionable

Fri, 20 Jan 2017 14:40:37 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 20, and is listed as questionable for the AFC Championship game.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola appears to have a solid chance to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but owners can check on his status closer to game time. He should see a decent amount of targets during the game and can be a No. 3 receiver or a flex option for owners.

Patriots | Danny Amendola limited again Thursday

Thu, 19 Jan 2017 17:46:14 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) was a limited participant at practice for the second consecutive day Thursday, Jan. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola was actually active last week for the first time since Week 13, but made no impact, as he was held without a catch on two targets. That being said, it's hard to recommend the veteran wide-out for any DFS lineups, at least until he's fully healthy and more featured again.

Patriots | Danny Amendola limited

Wed, 18 Jan 2017 13:54:50 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) was limited during practice Wednesday, Jan. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola was active for the Divisional round playoff game but was held without a catch on two targets. He could be more involved in the passing game in the AFC Championship game but probably should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Fri, 13 Jan 2017 14:58:40 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 13, and is not on the injury report for the Divisional round playoff game against the Houston Texans.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola likely will return to the lineup after missing a month because of his ankle injury. He probably will receive a limited amount of targets if he plays and probably should be passed over in fantasy leagues.

Patriots | Danny Amendola has full practice

Thu, 12 Jan 2017 14:23:45 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Jan. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola hasn't played in more than a month, so there could be some rust here. He may be looked to more than expected, though, if Malcolm Mitchell is inactive or limited at all. Still, Amendola is a high-risk, medium-reward player at best this week.

Patriots | Full practice for Danny Amendola

Wed, 11 Jan 2017 13:50:04 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Jan. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola was not played since early December because of his injury but appears to have a chance to play in the Divisional Round playoff game. It is not known how he will be used if he is active, so owners may want to pass over him and look for other options.

Patriots | Danny Amendola practices

Wed, 04 Jan 2017 11:52:13 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) participated in practice Wednesday, Jan. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola has missed about a month because of his ankle injury but appears to have a decent chance to play in the Divisional round playoff game. Amendola's role in the offense is uncertain at this point, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. Owners in playoff fantasy leagues probably will be able to find better options to use.

Patriots | Danny Amendola to test ankle

Wed, 04 Jan 2017 06:05:21 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) will test his ankle on the practice field soon, according to a source. How his ankle responds will dictate his availability in the playoffs.

Fantasy Tip: If Amendola returns to health, he could figure into playoff DFS pools any given game. The Pats spread the ball around, and he'll be a risky flex option if he's cleared.

Thu, 22 Dec 2016 14:23:16 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Dec. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola is headed for another week on the sideline as he continues to deal with his ankle injury. Malcolm Mitchell should once again see more targets as the No. 2 wide receiver behind Julian Edelman. Edelman is a WR1 in PPR formats, while Mitchell is best started as a low-end WR2 to high-end WR3.

Patriots | Danny Amendola to miss time

Mon, 05 Dec 2016 08:19:19 -0800

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 13, and the team's plan is to have him ready for the playoffs.

Fantasy Tip: This will give Chris Hogan a boost in the offense with Gronk and Amendola out. Hogan had four catches for 23 yards and a touchdown and should be picked up if he was dumped in what has been a quiet season.

Patriots | Danny Amendola injured

Sun, 04 Dec 2016 12:28:34 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) suffered an ankle injury in the second half Sunday, Dec. 4, against the Los Angeles Rams. He is questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola owners may want to hold their breath a bit. This is the second big injury of the week behind Rob Gronkowski, but Amendola may be week-to-week. He has 20 catches, 213 yards and four touchdowns to date in 2016. If you are looking for Amendola insurance, WRs Chris Hogan or Malcolm Mitchell may see more touches if Amendola can't go.

Patriots | More work for Danny Amendola?

Sat, 26 Nov 2016 17:19:42 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola could see more action as a kick and punt returner against the New York Jets in Week 12 in place of CB Cyrus Jones (illness), who has been ruled.

Fantasy Tip: Unless you play in a league that awards point for return yards, the news doesn't do much for Amendola's fantasy value. At best, he is a WR4 in deeper PPR formats.

Patriots | Danny Amendola salvages stat line

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 22:24:29 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola had two catches for just two yards on three targets in the Week 11 game against the San Francisco 49ers. Fortunately one of his catches resulted in a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola will look to get back on track against the New York Jets in Week 12. He has just 12 catches for 109 yards and two scores on 16 targets over his past eight games. He can only be trusted as a WR4 in the deepest of PPR fantasy leagues right now.

Patriots | Danny Amendola sees drop in work

Sat, 15 Oct 2016 13:09:52 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola has been on the field for only 24.4% of the snaps this season and is behind WRs Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan and Malcolm Mitchell in that category. He still ranks fifth on the team with 11 receptions and 130 yards and is only behind TE Martellus Bennett with two touchdowns. He has also performed well on third down.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola appears to be the fourth option at receiver for the Patriots and is also behind Rob Gronkowski and Bennett in terms of targets. Amendola will not have much fantasy value unless there is an injury.

Patriots | Danny Amendola scores twice

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 14:08:53 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola caught four passes for 50 yards and two touchdowns against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola missed a majority of training camp because of an injury but appears to have found a solid role in the offense. He could be a flex option in deeper leagues as long as he can stay healthy.

Patriots | Danny Amendola optimistic about Week 1

Tue, 06 Sep 2016 10:47:34 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (knee, ankle) expressed confidence to reporters Tuesday, Sept. 6, he would be "ready to roll" against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: In theory, Amendola is Julian Edelman's backup, which would make him something of a valuable handcuff. The problem with that is Amendola is arguably less durable than Edelman and could lose slot duties to Chris Hogan if Edelman is forced to miss significant time at some point. As such, it is difficult to justify stashing him on redraft or dynasty rosters.

Patriots | Danny Amendola activated off PUP list

Sat, 03 Sep 2016 16:37:36 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (knee, ankle) was activated off the Physically Unable to Perform list Saturday, Sept. 3. Amendola has missed all of camp after undergoing ankle and knee surgeries in the offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola is a player who could have significant fantasy value should Julian Edelman succumb to injury again, but he obviously needs to get himself healthy and back in football shape first. He can be left on waivers in all but the deepest of leagues until then.

Patriots | Danny Amendola may stay on PUP list

Sun, 28 Aug 2016 09:52:33 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) has not done much during practice since the start of training camp and could start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which would keep him out for at least the first six weeks of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Amendola is activated before the start of the season. He could be a late-round option at this point, but owners may want to avoid him if he is going to miss at least six weeks.

Patriots | Danny Amendola moving well

Mon, 22 Aug 2016 16:12:36 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) appears to be moving well despite remaining on the Physically Unable to Perform list. He did warm up with teammates in practice Monday, Aug. 22, but he was not in full pads.

Fantasy Tip: It's still concerning that Amendola isn't off the PUP list yet. His injury history has been extensive and he should not be viewed as more than a WR5.

Patriots | Four WR spots set in New England

Tue, 02 Aug 2016 20:27:40 -0700

New England Patriots WRs Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola and Malcolm Mitchell are considered locks as the top four wide receivers. The team is expected to keep one or two more receivers from a list that includes WRs DeAndre Carter, Aaron Dobson, Chris Harper, Devin Lucien, Keshawn Martin and Nate Washington. Dobson has reportedly looked good in training camp so far, but the fact he doesn't play special teams might hurt his chances. Martin received a $600K fantasy bonus in January, so he might be the favorite for the No. 5 job.

Fantasy Tip: Edelman and Amendola will be the top fantasy options, while Hogan and Mitchell are worth fliers in leagues with deeper rosters. The others have little to no fantasy appeal, although if injuries open up more prominent roles the No. 5 or 6 receivers could emerge later.

Patriots | Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola progress

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 08:39:31 -0700

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (foot) an WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) ran hills Friday, July 29, and appear close to returning to practice.

Fantasy Tip: Edelman is coming off of a broken foot and will be without Tom Brady for the first four games. Those issues are enough to push him down into the high-end WR2 range in fantasy. Amendola has been a bit of a fantasy tease, but he has struggled to stay on the field and remain a consistent fantasy threat. He'll have potential for big games occasionally, but he's best left to the WR5 area.

Patriots | Three notable Pats put on PUP list

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 16:13:35 -0700

New England Patriots WRs Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) and Julian Edelman (foot) and RB Dion Lewis (knee) were all placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Monday, July 25.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola has had trouble staying on the field throughout his career and is an untrustworthy fantasy football commodity. Leave him to the waiver wire in standard leagues. Keep an eye on Edelman's progress this fall, but if he's ready for Week 1, he should be firmly in WR2 territory with more intrigue in PPR leagues. Despite a strong season for Lewis in 2015 before his injury, his injury makes him extremely risky. Not to mention the fact he's never had more than 50 carries in a season in the NFL. He's running back depth in deeper leagues and could be a flex option in certain weeks in PPR formats.

Patriots | Danny Amendola feeling good

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 12:08:27 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) said he feels really good after undergoing two minor procedures this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola's health has been an issue his whole career, which makes him untrustworthy in the fantasy realm. He's in low-end WR4 to high-end WR5 territory.

Patriots | Key Patriots absent Thursday

Thu, 26 May 2016 15:17:29 -0700

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (foot), RB LeGarrette Blount (knee), RB Dion Lewis (knee), WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) and TE Rob Gronkowski (undisclosed) did not participate in organized team activities Thursday, May 26.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots are infamous for their vague injury reports and resting of players. Obviously they're going to take caution with the players listed above, though. As long as none of these guys suffer any setbacks this offseason, they should be good to go for the start of the regular season. Edelman and Gronk should both be viewed as fantasy starters at their respective positions, with more value in PPR formats. Lewis is an RB2 candidate in PPR formats if he can stay healthy, while Blount has RB3 potential if he, too, can keep his health. Amendola is the biggest injury risk; he shouldn't be viewed as more than a low-end WR4 to high-end WR5.

Patriots | Danny Amendola recovering

Mon, 16 May 2016 13:54:28 -0700

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (knee, ankle) is recovering from a pair of offseason surgeries that could prevent him from being ready for the start of the 2016 season. Amendola had surgery on a troublesome left knee and another surgery to remove a bone spur in his ankle, according to a source. Both surgeries happened early this offseason. It's still too early to know when Amendola will be fully recovered, but his knee will demand a longer recovery schedule than his ankle.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola has had a propensity for injuries during his career. He's only played two full seasons in his seven-year career, and hasn't scored more than three touchdowns in any season either. Don't think of him as more than a low-end WR4, with extra value in PPR formats.
