Redskins | Josh Doctson the new Pierre Garcon

Sun, 11 Jun 2017 17:14:20 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson will be used in the Z receiver role to start the season, head coach Jay Gruden said. Last year, San Francisco 49ers WR Pierre Garcon occupied the Z receiver role for the Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: Doctson is unproven coming off an Achilles' injury that ruined his rookie campaign, but the former first-round pick has more than enough upside to grab as a WR5.

49ers | San Francisco brings aboard Pierre Garcon

Thu, 09 Mar 2017 16:05:06 -0800

Free-agent WR Pierre Garcon (Redskins) signed a five-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers Thursday, March 9.

Fantasy Tip: From the surface, this looks like a downgrade for Garcon's fantasy outlook, as he'll be joining a much inferior offense compared to the one he played with in Washington, but as a 49er, he's easily their best receiver and should see the most targets. Plus, Brian Hoyer could easily provide better quarterback play than what San Francisco had last year, so Garcon just may hang in there with WR3 prospects.

49ers | Pierre Garcon close to deal with 49ers

Wed, 08 Mar 2017 08:21:56 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent WR Pierre Garcon is close to a deal with the San Francisco 49ers, which would pay him $16 million in the first year, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon was solid with a 79-1,041-3 line last year. He doesn't jump off the page at you, but he's a midrange PPR receiver. Kyle Shanahan was his offensive coordinator in 2013, Garcon's best year, when he had 113 catches for 1,346 yards. He'll be a high-end WR3 in fantasy.

Washington Redskins impending free-agent WR Pierre Garcon is being pursued by the San Francisco 49ers. He's familiar with head coach Kyle Shanahan's system.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon had a 79-1,041-3 solid showing last year. He doesn't jump off the page at you, but he's a midrange PPR receiver.

Redskins | Washington not talking to Pierre Garcon

Fri, 03 Mar 2017 11:48:00 -0800

Impending free-agent WR Pierre Garcon (Redskins) hasn't "heard a word" from the Washington Redskins in regards to signing him to a deal prior to the start of free agency.

Fantasy Tip: There are any number of reasons as to why Washington hasn't reached out, the most likely of which is the chaos taking place in the Redskins' front office at the moment. Head coach Jay Gruden said last week he is comfortable with his receiving corps should Garcon and DeSean Jackson leave, and it is looking more and more like that will end up being the case. Even if Garcon ends up signing with a team that will allow him to be the clear No. 1 option, he'll be hard-pressed to be much more than a fantasy WR3.

Redskins | Washington to talk to own FAs at combine

Fri, 24 Feb 2017 12:28:12 -0800

The Washington Redskins have yet to engage in talks with any of their players with expiring contracts - a list that includes impending free agents WR Pierre Garcon, WR DeSean Jackson, TE Vernon Davis, DE Chris Baker. However, multiple sources report the Redskins expect to meet with the representatives of their impending free agents at the NFL Scouting Combine next week.

Fantasy Tip: It's a common practice for front office personnel and player reps to discuss contracts at the combine, although Washington is making an already very long week even longer by handling its business in this manner. Garcon and Jackson are each expected to command at least $9 million in their next contracts, so both players could be on different teams next season. It's a virtual certainty at least one will not come back.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon could fetch $9 million in FA

Sat, 11 Feb 2017 17:00:10 -0800

Impending free-agent WR Pierre Garcon is expected to receive offers in the neighborhood of $9 million per year, according to ESPN.com's John Keim.

Fantasy Tip: The Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers are among the teams expected to be among the most interested. The price tag would suggest teams view him as a No. 1 receiver, but his best fit would be as a No. 2. It's going to take a bit of a perfect storm in order to break the bank, and he's likely to be no more than a fantasy WR4 regardless of where he lands.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon a hot commodity

Thu, 09 Feb 2017 18:17:23 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent WR Pierre Garcon is expected to be pursued by the Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon can still do damage underneath as a possession receiver, and he could be a WR3 in PPR formats if he lands with a decent offense. If he is stuck with a rookie quarterback, he should be viewed more as a WR4.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon wants to remain a Redskin

Thu, 09 Feb 2017 15:45:15 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon said he wants to remain with the team next season.

Fantasy Tip: He also wants to get paid, as he should, after registering his fourth straight season with at least 68 receptions and his first 1,000-yard campaign since 2013. Not only that, Garcon has proven to be very durable, having played in all 16 games in four of his five seasons with Washington. However, the Redskins are notorious for lowballing impending free agents, and if they're not careful, he could wind up with a new club in 2017. At least a handful of teams should be interested.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon hasn't talked to Redskins

Tue, 07 Feb 2017 07:36:27 -0800

Washington Redskins impending free-agent WR Pierre Garcon (Redskins) still hasn't talked with the Redskins as of Tuesday, Feb. 7, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon had a solid 79-1,041-3 campaign in 2016. He turns 31 in August, but there appears to be tread left on the tires. He's a WR3 or a WR4 in fantasy depending on where he lands.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon says he is not possession WR

Sat, 14 Jan 2017 11:58:30 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon said he does not want to be called a possession receiver because he can do more than what the Redskins asked him to do in 2016. "I definitely want people to stop thinking I'm a possession receiver because they gave me a job to do," Garcon said. "That doesn't mean I can't go deep and I can't run fast, because I ran fast and went deep this year more than I probably ever did. Every year is different from the playcalling. But I want people to stop thinking that I'm a slow guy, and I'm not slowing down anytime soon."

Fantasy Tip: Garcon will be a free agent this offseason and should receive interest from multiple teams if he hits the free-agent market. He finished the 2016 season with 79 catches for 1,041 yards and three touchdowns. Garcon should have a good chance to be a starter for a team next season and can be a No. 3 or No. 4 receiver for fantasy owners.

Redskins | 'Solid chance' Pierre Garcon does not return

Tue, 03 Jan 2017 09:30:27 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon is unlikely to return for less than the $7.6 million he earned this season, according to ESPN's John Keim.

Fantasy Tip: That kind of stance usually indicates the player's agent has been able to find enough potential bidders, so a parting of ways appears likely. Then again, the first-round selection of Josh Doctson in the draft last spring pretty much sealed his fate anyway. Garcon showed he is still a very capable No. 2 receiver in the NFL and should be open to find a team willing to meet his asking price this spring.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon finishes for 94 yards

Sun, 25 Dec 2016 13:46:06 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon caught four passes for 92 yards against the Chicago Bears in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon has been a reliable option for owners this season and has posted at least 50 yards in six of his last seven games. He will continue to have a solid role in the passing game and should be a No. 3 receiver or a flex option in leagues.

Mon, 19 Dec 2016 22:10:20 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon posted seven grabs for 78 yards in the Week 15 game against the Carolina Panthers Monday, Dec. 19, and he was targeted a game-high 11 times.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon was credited with his first drop of the season, but he was still very productive. He remains a solid WR3 in most fantasy leagues heading into Week 16 against the Chicago Bears.

Mon, 19 Dec 2016 19:13:25 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon had his first drop of the season in the first half of the Week 15 game against the Carolina Panthers.

Fantasy Tip: The sure-handed Garcon has been a sure thing in the receiving game this season, posting four or more receptions in each of his past six, and 10 of the past 11 games. He had two receptions for 28 yards on five targets in the first 30 minutes.

Sun, 30 Oct 2016 12:45:02 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon caught six passes for 67 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon has been a reliable target for the Redskins this season and has posted at least 67 yards in two of the last three games. Garcon can be a No. 3 receiver or a flex option for owners moving forward.

Sun, 23 Oct 2016 17:45:10 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon had two receptions for 22 yards in five targets in the Week 7 game against the Detroit Lions.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon has found the end zone just once this season, and he has been held to 59 or fewer yards in six of his seven games. Garcon is only worth keeping around as receiver depth in fantasy leagues of 12 or more yards.

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 14:08:49 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon caught six passes for 77 yards in a 27-20 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Oct. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon was targeted 11 times, which suggests he is definitely in favor with QB Kirk Cousins. He should be one of your top two receivers in a fantasy lineup.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon catches TD pass

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 14:44:33 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon caught five passes for 56 yards and one touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon has been a bit inconsistent in terms of his receiving yards this season but has been targeted at least six times in four of the five games. He could be a flex option most leagues or a bye week replacement in deeper leagues.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon posts 51 yards

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 21:04:58 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon posted six receptions for 51 yards in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, converting all six of his targets into targets.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon is behind DeSean Jackson and Jordan Reed in the pecking order for catches in D.C., and he is battling Jamison Crowder for the crumbs. There is still enough ball to go around, but Garcon should be treated more like a WR4 in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams going forward.

Redskins | Josh Doctson to open as backup?

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 17:59:39 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson is likely to open the year as the backup to WR DeSean Jackson and WR Pierre Garcon while WR Jamison Crowder works as the starting slot receiver, according to bear writer John Keim.

Fantasy Tip: Doctson missed some time during minicamp, and Washington's depth at receiver further hurts his chances of making a quick impact. He should be scooped up early in rookie drafts, but he is a late-round flier in standard formats.

Redskins | Jamison Crowder to play slot

Tue, 17 May 2016 17:57:24 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Jamison Crowder will serve as the Redskins' primary slot receiver in 2016, with WRs Pierre Garcon, DeSean Jackson and Ryan Grant also capable of playing in the slot.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson and Doctson currently have the most fantasy appeal in Washington, but don't completely disregard Garcon, either. Crowder is a sneaky sleeper candidate after tallying 59 catches for 604 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie season, but don't view him as more than a WR5 at best in the Redskins' packed wide receiver corps.

Redskins | Josh Doctson to start eventually?

Sun, 08 May 2016 12:04:27 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson could overtake either WRs Pierre Garcon or DeSean Jackson in the starting lineup at some point in 2016, in the opinion of Rich Tandler of realredskins.com.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon would be more likely to yield playing time to Doctson, and, of course, all three will see the field at the same time on occasion. Doctson is one of the more promising rookies this year and should be drafted as a low-end WR3 to high-end WR4.

Redskins | Josh Doctson will play outside

Wed, 04 May 2016 16:58:03 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Josh Doctson will start out as an outside receiver, playing behind WRs DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, according to offensive coordinator Sean McVay. McVay and head coach Jay Gruden see similarities between Doctson and Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green. "I think that's a great comparison, because you look at a taller, leaner player with great body control and excellent ball skills," McVay said.

Fantasy Tip: It may take some time for Doctons to acclimate to the professional level, but he definitely has a role to play with the Redskins. He could be more of a downfield threat, like a poor man's DeSean Jackson. For now, consider Doctson a WR4 in fantasy land.

Redskins | Washington to keep Pierre Garcon?

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 11:26:12 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon is expected to be retained and play out the last year of his contract in Washington, according to Rich Tandler and Tarik El-Bashir of CSNWashington.com.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon is coming off a quietly productive year in which he caught 72 passes for 777 yards and six touchdowns -- all improvements from 2014. Jordan Reed and DeSean Jackson would obviously cut into his production again, but Garcon should still be viewed as a WR3 if he stays with the Redskins.

Redskins | Washington WRs dilemma ahead?

Tue, 12 Jan 2016 12:03:26 -0800

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson is due $3.75 million and WR Pierre Garcon $7.6 million in 2016 -- the final year in each of their contracts. Each receiver is entering their age-29 season.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson dealt with a hamstring injury for most of the first half of 2015 and was limited to 30 catches -- his worst in eight NFL seasons. Garcon has evolved into much more of a possession receiver for Washington since posting a career-high 113 catches in 2013. With TE Jordan Reed taking on more of a starring role for the Redskins this year and WR Jamison Crowder showing well in his rookie year, the team could opt to move on from Jackson and Garcon at the end of the 2016 season.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon snags five balls

Sun, 10 Jan 2016 18:42:54 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon posted five receptions for 70 yards in the NFC Wild Card Game against the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Jan. 10. He was targeted eight times.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon didn't have a giant season by any stretch, but he finished up strong with three touchdowns over his final three regular season games. With 777 yards and six touchdowns, he was a serviceable WR3/4 or flex option more often than not. That will be his role again in 2016 in most fantasy formats.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon streaking

Thu, 07 Jan 2016 20:24:19 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon faces the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round of the playoffs Sunday, Jan. 10, and he caught a touchdown in each of the final three games of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) hasn't had a 100-yard receiving game all year, and he has managed to top 60 yards just four times. He will likely have to extend his touchdown streak to be a worthwhile option at FantasyScore, making him an all-or-nothing option.

Redskins | Season high for Pierre Garcon

Sat, 26 Dec 2015 21:30:34 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon had seven catches for a season-high for 80 yards and a touchdown in a 38-24 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon has been a safe bet for about five catches and 50 yards per game this year, but there are plenty of options available at FantasyScore with more upside.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon finds end zone

Sun, 20 Dec 2015 18:03:30 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon posted three receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown in the Week 15 game against Buffalo Bills. He was targeted four times.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon has three or more receptions in each of his past five, and 12 of the past 14. He hasn't had more than 70 yards in any of his games since the opener, so consider him only as a WR3 or flex option.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon hauls in five catches

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 22:51:16 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon posted five receptions for 54 yards in the Week 13 game against the Dallas Cowboys. He was targeted seven times.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon hasn't found the end zone in six games, and he has been held to 70 or fewer yards in each of his 11 games since he had a season-high 74 yards in Week 1. He isn't worth using in Week 14 against the Chicago Bears, a team which ranks second in the NFL in passing yardage allowed.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon looks good to go

Fri, 16 Oct 2015 11:15:31 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon (knee) practiced all week and is probable for Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) could have a one-way ticket to Revis Island against the New York Jets this weekend. He's probably not a good target on FantasyScore this week.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon, Chris Thompson ready

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 14:31:51 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon (knee) and RB Chris Thompson (shoulder) both took part in a full practice for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) could see even more targets if DeSean Jackson (hamstring) sits out again, but then he'd likely be covered by Darrelle Revis. Garcon is a risk/reward play on FantasyScore. Thompson ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) doesn't look attractive at all against a New York Jets defense allowing 16.0 PPR fantasy points to runners per game (second-fewest).

Redskins | Pierre Garcon fully practices

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 15:03:58 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) should be able to play against the New York Jets in Week 6. Garcon has caught at least five passes in four of his five games this season and has posted solid receiving yards in each game. Garcon could be a risky option this week because of the tough matchup.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon targeted eight times

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 20:25:35 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon had three receptions for 51 yards in the Week 5 game against the Atlanta Falcons. He was targeted eight times.

Fantasy Tip: They looked for Garcon ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) plenty, but he and Kirk Cousins just couldn't connect as much as they wanted. Still, Garcon remains a decent mid-tier FantasyScore option.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon probable against Atlanta

Fri, 09 Oct 2015 15:46:32 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon (knee) practiced in full for the third straight day Friday, Oct. 9, and is probable for Week 5 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Fantasy Tip: The 'Skins may need to throw often to play catchup in this one, and with no DeSean Jackson or Jordan Reed, Garcon ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) should see plenty of targets in the passing game and is a great value play this weekend on FantasyScore.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon fully practices

Thu, 08 Oct 2015 14:58:38 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon (knee) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has posted decent numbers since DeSean Jackson has been out of the lineup. He could see plenty of targets if Jackson and Jordan Reed are not able to play and could be a solid starting option for owners.

Redskins | Full practice for Pierre Garcon

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 14:46:16 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon (knee) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Garcon will be the Redskins' primary receiving threat in Week 5, assuming Jordan Reed and DeSean Jackson do not play. Garcon ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is still relatively cheap for how he's been producing lately. He's worth starting on FantasyScore as the Redskins may be required to pass early and often against the Atlanta Falcons.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon left briefly

Mon, 05 Oct 2015 06:34:27 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon (knee) left the game Sunday, Oct. 4, in the fourth quarter with a sprained knee. He returned to catch three balls and a touchdown in the victory.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) could have an even bigger role with DeSean Jackson (hamstring) and Jordan Reed (concussion) banged up. They have a tough draw against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5, but Garcon could be a midrange flex option on FantasyScore.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon sees most targets

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 07:45:22 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon received a team-high 12 targets in a loss to the New York Giants Thursday night. He caught five of those targets for 64 yards.

Fantasy Tip: It was a good game for Garcon, but it could have been a good deal better. His targets might take a slight hit when DeSean Jackson returns, but he's still the Redskins' main possession receiver and a sturdy WR3 option on FantasyScore.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon working with QB

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 10:07:35 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon has been participating in extra work with QB Robert Griffin III to make sure they are on the same page when the season starts.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon had a bit of a disappointing 2014 season with 752 yards and three touchdowns and is looking to build a better chemistry with Griffin. Garcon should see a solid amount of targets this season and could be a middle- to late-round option depending on the league.

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III hit WR Rashad Ross and WR Pierre Garcon in stride on deep balls in practice Saturday, Aug. 15, and he connected with WR Evan Spencer in the red zone.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon in contract year?

Thu, 23 Jul 2015 16:50:05 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon could be in a contract year in 2015. He will cost $10.25 million against the salary cap next season, according to ESPN.com's John Keim.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon needs to step up his production in order to justify that monetary figure. He'll probably have more value in PPR leagues, but should only be drafted as a low-end WR3 or high-end WR4.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon may have bigger role

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 11:13:25 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon could be featured more often in the passing game this season based on the offseason workouts. Garcon often lined up to the right of the quarterback during the workouts even though he has been used mostly on the left side. Head coach Jay Gruden said he was impressed with Garcon's work this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon saw a significant drop in his receiving yards last season from 1,346 in 2013 to 752 in 2014. Garcon could be more involved in the passing game if the team has stability at the quarterback position. Garcon could be an option in the middle to late rounds of most fantasy drafts this season.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon to be more involved

Mon, 08 Jun 2015 14:39:29 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon is being incorporated more into Washington's offense this year, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon will still be second fiddle among the Redskins' wide receivers to DeSean Jackson, but he potentially being more involved is encouraging. He still shouldn't be regarded as more than a WR4.

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 07:00:57 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon ran routes as the "Z" receiver instead of the "X" receiver Wednesday, June 3. This means Garcon lines up split out on the right instead of the left. WR DeSean Jackson was the "X" receiver, and WRs Andre Roberts and Jamison Crowder rotated as the slot receiver.

Fantasy Tip: D-Jax is a midrange WR2 in fantasy, but he loses some appeal in PPR leagues. He came back to his normal 56-catch range after busting out with 82 receptions in 2013. Garcon should be more involved this season, but it's hard to take him as anything more than a low-end WR3 in PPR formats.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon to see more targets?

Sat, 28 Mar 2015 19:45:07 -0700

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon's production slipped last year largely because of instability at the quarterback position, according to head coach Jay Gruden, and Gruden said that he plans to have Garcon's numbers go "back up" in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: While the idea is nice in theory, there is no guarantee that there will be stability under center in Washington this season either, and the presence of DeSean Jackson makes it very unlikely that Garcon will ever duplicate his 113-catch season from 2013. Draft him as a WR3.

Redskins | Pierre Garcon in 'Skins' plans

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 11:54:09 -0800

Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon would save the team a lot of money if he were to be cut, but head coach Jay Gruden said Garcon is still in the team's plans.

Fantasy Tip: Garcon disappeared for large stretches last year and was a thorough disappointment for those that drafted him. He had only 68 catches for 752 yards and three touchdowns, and Robert Griffin's injuries and poor play had a big hand in Garcon's struggles. With RG3 returning as the starter in 2015, hopefully Garcon will rebound, but he's no sure thing. Consider him more of a WR3 with a chance for more on draft day.
