Joe Gibbs Racing driver Matt Kenseth plans to use standby drivers for the Sprint Cup race at Auto Club Speedway next weekend as he awaits the birth of his third child. Driver Sam Hornish Jr. will be on standby for the Nationwide Series race, and driver Jeff Burton will be on standby in the Cup race.

Fantasy Tip: Kenseth is an extremely risky lineup addition next week unless the baby is born before the race.

Penske Championship Racing plans to keep driver Sam Hornish Jr. on board for the 2013 Sprint Cup season. Hornish has been driving the No. 22 car since driver A.J. Allmendinger was fired in July after testing positive for a banned substance. Hornish has an average finish of 19th but has three top-12 finishes and five top-20s in eight starts. He will run a full Nationwide schedule next year with select Cup races.

Penske Championship Racing driver A.J. Allmendinger was suspended indefinitely by NASCAR Tuesday, July 24, after a second test of his urine sample produced a positive result. He will be officially informed of the results by letter, and, at the same time, will be given the opportunity to participate in NASCAR's rehabilitation program. Completion of the program typically results in reinstatement. In the meantime, Penske Racing said Sam Hornish Jr. will continue to drive the Penske No. 22 Sprint Cup Series car, at least in the next two races at Indianapolis and Pocono.

Penske Championship Racing driver A.J. Allmendinger has been temporarily suspended by NASCAR for a failed drug test. The suspension was announced just hours before the Coke Zero 400 Saturday, July 7, at Daytona International Speedway. Allmendinger had a sample taken at Kentucky Speedway last weekend return positive. The driver has 72 hours to request another sample taken be tested. "NASCAR has a strict drug testing program that Penske Racing fully supports. Penske Racing will work with NASCAR through this process and its next steps," the team said in a statement. The team was scrambling to get Sam Hornish Jr. to the track in time to take Allmendinger's seat.

Sam has been with us, he won the Indy 500 with us, he came over here, he's endured and he's run better than his points position."
